We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

Waitrose didn’t deliver the passion fruits for the porn star martinis ! True first world problem!

Sidge · 22/12/2020 19:19

I’ve got to work Christmas Eve when I wasn’t supposed to be working.

I’m a bit sad. Even though I’m only working until lunchtime.

GlumyGloomer · 22/12/2020 19:20

I put all the treat food on the official Christmas food order, arriving on Thursday. Too late I realised this mean we have no nice snacks in for most of Dh's week off work (started Monday). Feel guilty about that one.

AlternativePerspective · 22/12/2020 19:28

I couldn’t get any melba toast for the smoked salmon pate I am making for the starter.

I forgot to put it on the sainsburys order and nowhere in town seems to have any.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 22/12/2020 19:30

@AnnabelDickson

The asda winter scented loo roll i bought isn't as nice as the one i normally buy, and I've got 18 rolls to get through. I'm embarrassed to admit how much this is annoying me.
So your parts and those of your family don't smell as festive as they should. I feel your pain!
ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 22/12/2020 19:32

@flower11

I have a mountain of cheese to get through, as my parents are in tier 4 so not coming anymore.
See, I'd count that as a result! Have a Xmas Biscuit Xmas Biscuit Xmas Biscuit Not in a nasty MN way, but to enjoy with your cheese

@sittingonacornflake

Just decanted my homemade sloe gin into a bottle but because I spilt quite a bit when I first made it there is way too much sugar in it so it's a bit syrupy.
Can you just add some neat gin?

I'd be devastated by that tbh
Paloooza · 22/12/2020 19:34

Couldn't find Turkey Foil anywhere but finally found some extra wide foil in the local Co Op so should be fine seeing as I have a crown not a mahoosive whole bird Xmas Wink

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 22/12/2020 19:34

(Although now wondering if I is too late to get ingredients to make some)

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 22/12/2020 19:35

Sorry, that was to pixie

Acinonyx2 · 22/12/2020 19:36

Can I face a 40 minute queue at Waitrose just to get a small pot of caviar for our Russian themed Xmas lunch (I'm also CEV)? Dilemmas, dilemmas.

@BadgertheBodger I really thought I'd got ahead of the wrapping paper selection this year but dh has been forging and ruined the contrasts!

Nicklebox · 22/12/2020 19:37

You can make Melba toast by cutting the crusts off of a slice of white bread and then slice into two thinner pieces then toast under the grill until they curl up and are pale golden

SecretWitch · 22/12/2020 19:40

I am recovering from diverticulitis so won’t be able to indulge in any of the wonderful food on offer at my mother’s

If you ask me very nicely I'll tell you how to make melba toast from ordinary sliced supermarket bread!
katienana · 22/12/2020 19:42

Had to take all the condiments out of the fridge because the turkey is so big!
And
The turkey cost £85

Now having to spend Christmas at home with DP rather than my family means I haven’t had time to put all the effort I would have loved to into preparations if I’d had more warning.
Also spending Christmas with plain eating DP means I miss out on all the tasty treats I love but he would hate because I can’t be bothered making things like blinis and lobster just for me

QueenOfLabradors · 22/12/2020 19:43

xposted... like how @Nicklebox says...

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 22/12/2020 19:44

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 22/12/2020 19:46

Lurkingforawhile · 22/12/2020 19:47

I volunteered to make Xmas day pudding and it is brioche bread and butter pudding. But Tesco (delivery due tomorrow) are out of brioche loaves. May need to use brioche rolls instead. Sorry if that makes you hungry! Grin

SockDrawer · 22/12/2020 19:47

@ThatDamnKrampus I hopes he’s making you one before the day! If he can’t get to the actual shops surely he can get to a big supermarket?

FeckTheMagicDragon · 22/12/2020 19:50

I’m making a Christmas pudding (6 weeks late) but I’ve drank all the port. Can I just put twice as much brandy in?

Lurkingforawhile · 22/12/2020 19:50

@BadgertheBodger mine does that too. I hide them round the back of the tree!
