We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

@thenewaveragebear1983

I'm doing an avocado and salmon starter for Christmas Day but I couldn't get the right ripeness of avocado. I eventually bought a nearly ripe one (this was on Monday) which I'm storing in the fridge, and a pack of ripen at home which every day this week I have brought a new one out into the sunlight to increase the chances of getting a perfect one on Friday. I am testing The nearly ripe one daily to ensure we don't miss 'the window'
@thenewaveragebear1983 sorry if this is too late or has already been said, but have you tried putting the unripe avocado in a bag with some bananas? Bananas release ethene which speeds up ripening of other fruit.
Pearsapiece · 24/12/2020 06:47

My dm bought me a Christmas puzzle but I don't get my puzzle board from dh until tomorrow so I'm having to make do with the crappy mat until then!

WilheminaVenable · 24/12/2020 06:53

CBeebies seem to only be playing the same 2 Christmas episodes of each programme and we’ve already seen them all Xmas Biscuit

Deepintheforest · 24/12/2020 06:54

My first world problem is its to bloody hot to be christmas so I don't feel at all christmasy (I usually return to the UK). But after reading this thread I do have 2kgs of passion fruits in the kitchen and more ripe avocados than I could ever eat on the tree in the garden so maybe its ok after all.

Sgtmajormummy · 24/12/2020 07:00

Our Christmas meals will be served on ordinary plates this year. Xmas Shock

BabyMoonPie · 24/12/2020 07:03

We bought bags of pre peeled and chopped swede and carrot to mash as part of our Christmas dinner. Thought I was being clever and saving time on peeling and chopping. Have now realised this means we don't have a carrot for Rudolph. I can put a few carrot cubes on the plate but it's going to look daft as there is an outline of a carrot on it

Malin52 · 24/12/2020 07:12

@thenewaveragebear1983 re your avocado. @KitKatastrophe is right. Put your avo in a brown paper bag with a ripe banana near a radiator and it will be ripe in 24 hours.

SallyTimms · 24/12/2020 07:19

I know what dh has bought me for Christmas and its a print from an artist he likes. I don't. I will have to smile and trot out to my car for a swig if hidden baileys.

Thankssomuch · 24/12/2020 07:24

I’ve just put the ham in the oven for a twelve hour cook and I snipped the string off before it went in. I realised afterwards you’re supposed to leave it on. Will it be ruined? It’s in a black treacle glaze and fully foiled.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/12/2020 07:27

I wrapped one present in the wrong paper. It was an utter pain in the arse to wrap so I don't want to unwrap and redo.

Queuing4Fergs · 24/12/2020 08:05

I don't have any Christmas crackers. I counted on being able to get some from Sainsburys and while they had loads they were all shit - cheap looking and in weird colours. So went to M&S but they'd sold out. Aldi's are worse than Sainsburys

Queuing4Fergs · 24/12/2020 08:08

... and there were none in Tesco either. So I'll have to go back to Sainsburys today and hope they still have their shitty ones in stock.

To make matters worse when I recounted my tale of woe to my MIL last night (we were meant to be at hers for Christmas) she said she had 3 bastard boxes of the damn things Angry

SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious · 24/12/2020 08:12

Tesco delivered everything except the dairy free Christmas pudding. So DH and the kids are fine, and I won’t get any. I really like Christmas pudding.

Indoctro · 24/12/2020 08:13

@rainbowstardrops

Wow! Where are you *@Indoctro*? I'd love some snow for Christmas! Especially as we're not allowed to go anywhere 😂
@rainbowstardrops

I'm in NE Scotland , we have had a few inches of snow overnight

Makes for a magical Xmas for kids...just ruins my early morning run plansHmm

Vebrithien · 24/12/2020 08:17

This may/may not be so light hearted...

My whole Christmas order from the semi-local butcher and pie maker wasn't delivered yesterday. It was due any time between noon and 9pm. But no show. No online/24 hour presence. Includes free range turkey, chipolatas, bacon, stuffing, mince pies, BAILEY'S profiteroles and local smoked cheese.

Am waiting for 9am to phone them.

Went on an 11pm Lidl supermarket dash last night, managed to get a frozen stuffed turkey breast joint, cheaper chipolatas, bacon, pork stuffing and a sweet tart. And I felt like a weight off of my mind.

The PIL are visiting for Christmas Day, and are very much all about free-range, organic food. And pretty critical. Currently, I've got frozen supermarket stuff to feed them.

However. I'm vegetarian. Whilst I'd miss the profiteroles and cheese, I DON'T CARE about the meat. Tough shit, they'll need to learn to make compromises.

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 24/12/2020 09:02

@Vebrithien - don’t tell them! See if they notice the difference (hide the packaging at the bottom of the bin obviously Xmas Wink

Our lovingly decorated gingerbread house suffered catastrophic subsidence overnight, due to poor engineering and my insistence on adding 3 packets of white chocolate button roof tiles...made for an unexpected festive breakfast though Xmas Grin

BorderlineHappy · 24/12/2020 15:52

We got our M&S Turkey,Ham and Caterpillar cake.Lovely
Except the ham is tiny, had to go out and buy another one.

DecemberDiana · 24/12/2020 15:55

Came to collect ingredients for the stuffing and found that I didn't have a tray of sausagemeat in the freezer this last fortnight but a tray of mini chipolatas.

Alas, alack.

SoMuchToBits · 24/12/2020 16:14

A miracle has just happened! A friend of mine saw my post on this thread, had some spare mistletoe and turned up on my doorstep with a bunch! Xmas Smile

HerRoyalNotness · 24/12/2020 16:18

I was out when the pool cleaner came, DH is working from home. He texted me to say he’ll give him his Christmas bonus, a weeks worth. I texted back straight away and said I’d sent it already in the direct deposit. He then said it’s too late he gave it to him. So extra bonus for him!

lakesidexmas · 24/12/2020 17:06

I finally got my act in gear to make dd's pickled red onions only to discover the only color of onions I don't have is red.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 24/12/2020 17:36

No M&S Woodland Yule log or best ever trifle in our ocado order, but all the cream has turned up! Sad

Katinski · 24/12/2020 17:45

8am this morning I had a(nother) Amazon delivery. The most ginormous fillet of prime beef from family in the US. I live alone and don't eat meat.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 24/12/2020 17:45

Bird still too frozen to get the giblets out.

DahliaMacNamara · 24/12/2020 19:45

Hurt my foot like a fucking twat on my way out to get the final Christmassy bits yesterday, and had to eat the entirely random odds and ends DH brought home while I got the swelling down instead. Anyway, if I want 3 different kinds of custard tomorrow, I'm sorted.
