We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

@AlternativePerspective

I couldn’t get any melba toast for the smoked salmon pate I am making for the starter.

I forgot to put it on the sainsburys order and nowhere in town seems to have any.

It’s really easy to make melba toast. I learnt about 20 years ago working in a hotel. Toast a slice of bread lightly- slice through it (slice the slice in half) toast again - ta daaa melba toast

I’m in a t4 area (and live with someone vulnerable) so have decided to not collect my preordered Christmas food from M&S and Sainsburys. I’ve been looking forward to it since I ordered it two months ago, as I was planning on doing my annual game of supermarket sweep round M&S, being out for a minimum of 2 hours without children and seeing other adult humans that I’m not related/married to and it was going to be amazing. Instead, I’ll be stuck at home listening to fighting children and sulking. Xmas Angry

I was expecting a 120g pack of smoked salmon in my Tesco delivery. It was substituted for a 60g pack. Not 2x60g packs, just the one. Hmm

DH is refusing to buy the veg tomorrow. ‘It’ll be time enough on Xmas eve’. Of course it will but can’t he just humour me!! We live across from a greengrocers too. I’m not out and about shopping (in case anyone wonders) due being high risk with Covid. I think lockdown or whatever you want to call it is getting to me.

He usually makes the Christmas dinner but gets help from the two adult children who now cannot join us - we’re in Scotland, no transport so they can’t even come just for the day. Urgh! He’ll make enough food for 6 but there are only 4 of us now - two other dc live here. We’ll be eating leftovers for days. And I’m going to have to listen to his choice of radio in the kitchen if I help him. For HOURS.

Do I sound churlish enough yet? I do hope so. Hmm

I have put white lights on the ‘show’ tree and the yellow ones on the ‘practical’ tree and it irritates me when they are lit up. Hopefully tomorrow I will have some time to swap them over. I can’t see why my family think I am overreacting. 😀
And yes I know Christmas trees are not practical.

I bought a make your own cracker kit for me and the DC. I told the kids to sit at the table ready to craft while I fetched the kit and it's fucking disappeared!
I bought tiny KitKat's from Japan to put inside the crackers too.

I ordered partridge which we were going to have no Christmas Eve.
My son is upset that we cannot have it in a pear tree as our pear tree is too small.
He wants nothing to do with the partridge now.

@origamiOwl

I know! I always buy these for my dad and he's ended up with a few lindt hazelnut bars instead!

I've had to buy actual raw unpeeled potatoes in a bag rather than the already half prepared toasties already in a silver tray! Woe is me!

I somehow ended up with 3 food deliveries so could feed a small army. I originally ordered a Sainsbury’s delivery when the slots first opened up, and then completely forgot got about it. I then ordered a Morrison’s Christmas dinner box. Then I ordered a supplemental Tesco shop including cheese board etc, without realising there was a cheese selection in the Morrison box.

I now have 2 turkeys, 3 Christmas puddings, 2 trifles and almost 20 cheeses!

Oh and despite all that, I forgot to order quality street, and kitchen foil.

I'm due to do our food shop tomorrow.
I've read on here that there's no baileys.
I am trying not to let my panic show, but I'm very stressed at the potential thought

Plenty in B&M today and Morrison’s yesterday.

I can’t find a big tub of Roses.

Managed to get a turkey, not really sure what to do with it. It's just a big chicken, right?

Report
grassisjeweled · 23/12/2020 02:23

I don't have a cooker or an oven so I'm using a camping stove to fry a turkey.

I made my husband a new stocking
as the last one I made him wasn't thick enough fabric, and eventually tore. But the E from his name fell off somewhere and I just can't find it!
