We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

The turkey cost £85
😱 I’d be so stressed I was going to burn it or undercook it or fuck it up somehow!

NotYourReindeer · 22/12/2020 19:55

Im too skint to buy myself any booze and I can't have the booze on offer at my mums for Xmas lunch because I'm driving.

(im skint because I've spent up for Xmas, so definitely first world problem!)

TheOrchidKiller · 22/12/2020 19:55

@Aroundtheworldin80moves
"Im not sure if it's worth going to M&S just go a colin the caterpillar cake. My mum buys one for me and dDs every year, but we cant visit london now. And the other supermarket versions are not the same."
I nabbed a Colin cake last week. Sent DCs in to get it. I agree the imposter caterpillar cakes are second rate. ASDA do a reindeer-caterpillar hybrid cake but we all agreed it would not be good enough!

I hope you get one.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/12/2020 20:00

We’re picking up our duck tomorrow. It’s not going to fit in the fridge Blush

DH also didn’t buy any quality street/celebrations/miniature heroes. We’re getting chocolates as Christmas presents but that’s not for days... what am I meant to snack on?

Trailing1 · 22/12/2020 20:05

Went to the shops and got DH a xmas gift of a new hair trimmer, as his was battered. Only for him to mention in conversation that he brought a new one from Amazon. I hid my annoyance as it's not like he knew I had got him one but I couldn't be arsed to brave town for a replacement gift so went to the nearby sainsburys and got him some jeans and whisky. Grin

karala · 22/12/2020 20:12

my local greengrocer ran out of fresh cranberries - can you imagine the horror? Fortunately we have a marks and sparks for back up, but still. The horror

Lollypop701 · 22/12/2020 20:15

Hard cheese freezes ok

Aldi only had lobster tails in Thermidor sauce, not garlic butter... I got the ( last) 2 anyway but tried another couple of stores. Hope we like Thermidor sauce or Christmas lunch will be ruined 🙈

HermannlovesPauline · 22/12/2020 20:16

@Lurkingforawhile Have you got any pannetone? Make it with that - it’s sensational

The posters that were talking about porn star martinis - are they easy to make at home? I’ve only ever had them in bars

TattyDevine · 22/12/2020 20:18

I burned the edges of the snowflake gingerbread cookies, and I wanted to get them decorated tonight, because I use edible glitter and the cleaners are coming to blitz the house top to bottom tomorrow and I don't want to get the glitter out after that 😆

MistleTOEboughski · 22/12/2020 20:19

Loving these first world problems. It was my birthday today and my Chinese takeaway was OK but not as nice as usual. I did get a fortune cookie that said I will have a lot of fun this summer though.

LastChristmas20 · 22/12/2020 20:24

My mum always gets me Marzipan Fruits.

Last week she said she hadn't managed to find any. Sad

Woe is me. Wink

noscoobydoodle · 22/12/2020 20:27

My mum was supposed to be coming for Christmas so I got most of the kids Xmas presents sent to her as she has a spare room. She is now in tier 4 so cant come for Christmas and lives a 4 hour drive away so cant pop by with the presents. We do have the stocking fillers here already and have managed to scramble a last minute Amazon prime order for a couple of the most desired items (and we can return the original gifts). The kids probably won't even notice, but it's been rather stressful (in a first world kind of way!).

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 22/12/2020 20:30

@lastchristmas20, that is truly awful I have eaten a 500grm block of marzipan in a week the shame!

HailFairy · 22/12/2020 20:30

The amount of food we have now my parents aren’t coming. It’s ridiculous and I’m sure I’ve spent even more than usual to make up for it just being the 4 of us. We’ll NEVER eat it all!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/12/2020 20:31

I'm doing an avocado and salmon starter for Christmas Day but I couldn't get the right ripeness of avocado. I eventually bought a nearly ripe one (this was on Monday) which I'm storing in the fridge, and a pack of ripen at home which every day this week I have brought a new one out into the sunlight to increase the chances of getting a perfect one on Friday. I am testing The nearly ripe one daily to ensure we don't miss 'the window'

Haha that made me laugh out loud.

I did say to her she can buy me a block and I can make it into shapes.

So it could happen!

Mmmmmmmmmarzipan.

Letsskidaddle · 22/12/2020 20:36

@AlternativePerspective - re the PP's melba toast suggestion, if you can't slice the bread thinner then roll it thinner with a rolling pin and grill (without crusts) as she suggested.

LastChristmas20 · 22/12/2020 20:36

Thanks for this thread. Has made me big smile for the first time today.

Will add another problem to keep it on track.

DH is just doing to final shop. And I just realised I didn't ask him to get After Eights!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Letsskidaddle · 22/12/2020 20:41

@thenewaveragebear1983 - you can ripen avocados to perfection, and quickly, by placing them in a paper bag with a banana. They ripen in a few hours!

TheDogsMother · 22/12/2020 20:44

Haven't been able to find any holly with berries for the table centrepiece ...... for just the two of us.

SpamIAm · 22/12/2020 20:47

I actually bought too many cheeselets and now I'm having to eat so many every night to try and get through them by the end of the year (so that I can be good in January obviously) that I'm not even enjoying them anymore.

geogteach · 22/12/2020 20:49

Realised today there are only 3 dishwasher tablets left...

DriveThroughSwabber · 22/12/2020 20:52

If you do ordinary white sliced bread in the toaster, then very carefully cut the two toasted sides apart and do the 'raw' sides under the grill, you get melba toast

AmandaHoldensLips · 22/12/2020 20:53

I don't have a cooker or an oven so I'm using a camping stove to fry a turkey.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/12/2020 20:53

My camambert is so smelly it's in 2 tupperwares and in the shed.
