Feeling really fed up about the tier 4 thing today. Our town has a current case rate of 110 per 100k, lower than some of our neighbouring areas that are staying in tier 2!!

It's not like we had huge plans for Christmas, but like my 86 year old aunt says (who lives alone in a London tower block and hasn't seen any family all year) the frustrating thing is knowing you can't do anything even if you wanted to.

Flowers to anyone struggling with this shit.

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 14:16

I’ve just had a GP friend in the phone for an hour.

It occurred to me afterwards, she didn’t say anything about the new strain.

starfish88 · 20/12/2020 14:18

It's just so shit. I do just hope anyone really struggling holds on until the spring. I can't do anything but hope that it will then... Or the disobedience kicks off when it's been a year and no change. I've bought some mini daffodil bulbs to put in a pot inside and hopefully bring the feeling of spring forward a bit sooner. A little sign of hope. But in a way that is so sad. I'm in my early 30s and one of the big things I'm looking forward to this year are daffodils in a pot.

Spoke to my gp friend yesterday, the government in Wales are telling them sod all and she is a partner.
AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 14:26

just that’s interesting
I just thought she didn’t mention it because she’s not worried

starfish I think flowers can bring a bit of cheering up at any age. Mum said I should plant indoor hyacinths but it didn’t work last year. So I’ve put some winter irises in a small pot, the balcony is very small, but the shoots are showing. I got pale blue instead of the usual purple.

NoisyBrain · 20/12/2020 14:27

I see the AIBU section is over-run with Covid threads again.

I think my favourite Insane Dementoring Statement of the day has to be the one suggesting that the people getting on trains leaving London yesterday should have been arrested.

justasking111 · 20/12/2020 14:37

The government knew full well folk would catch a train out, if they had not wanted this things would have been put in place to prevent it.

tappitytaptap · 20/12/2020 14:39

Why do I engage with dementors on the covid board? Oh and guess what... one arguing for school closures turned out to be a teacher 🤦🏻‍♀️

tappitytaptap · 20/12/2020 14:55

By the way, absolutely not slagging off teachers. The ones I know in real life are very sensible. The ones on mumsnet.... well a sizeable proportion who shout the loudest are very vocal in their opinions schools should shut.

Bollss · 20/12/2020 15:00

You mean all the ones who have been harping on about how they absolutely didn't want schools closed are now happy they're closing and saying i told you so? Yeah I've seen that too.

tappitytaptap · 20/12/2020 15:03

I suppose they don’t have to worry about job security when your employer gets pissed off with you juggling home schooling abs actually trying to do your job

tappitytaptap · 20/12/2020 15:03

*and

smallandimperfectlyformed · 20/12/2020 15:16

I am really glad that my children's teachers actually seem to like both teaching and children, they have had an unspeakably hard year and I do feel for them (especially as I am a Greenwich resident so we were one of the ones who had the stupid one day closure last week). Thankfully they seem nothing like the very vocal ones on here (not criticising the whole teaching profession, or those teachers who would be classified as ECV or anything like that - I can understand their concerns).

MercyBooth · 20/12/2020 15:45

Thanks for the good wishes Flowers Flowers Feeling a bit better.
Have unfriended two ppl on fb who are still blaming the public. Didnt bother to try and explain their own stupidity to them. Cant be arsed.

justasking111 · 20/12/2020 16:21

59 people dead in Wales yesterday only one in North Wales, so Drakeford can hop skip and jump off a short pier, eight cases in the whole county also yesterday.

I saved the list of Davos members someone put up months ago, would be interesting to compare it to this nervtag list to see if there is a crossover.

Oh there’s no way Ferguson is away

He might be off stage but he still directs

So, remember the Massive Panettone?

To my surprise, there will be a couple of elderly folk alone in mum’s road at Christmas.

Someone’s already offered to give out plates of Christmas dinner because they were expecting to host 20. We are thinking if that’s 3pm then we’ll take round panettone for elevenses. We can either leave it outside or try to put a couple of chairs in the road for a chat? Or will we get done by the police?

Either way, we will share food.

flower11 · 20/12/2020 17:44

Sounds lovely Acorn, community spirit. Its horrible thinking of people who will be alone now, young and old alike.
I had a feeling my parents wouldn't be able to come so have an m and s Turkey joint stashed in the freezer, just need to buy Christmas pudding as they were bringing that too.

Recycledblonde · 20/12/2020 17:54

Do you thing it’s worth asking how many MPs will be spending Christmas alone in their London accommodation? Am doubtful if we would get the truth but it might be worth asking.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 20/12/2020 17:57

They'll all have left London on Thursday when the recess started.

MercyBooth · 20/12/2020 18:06

Speaking of community i think the police can kiss goodbye to community relations if they get over zealous with this.

They need to read the guidance

They left already. That’s probably the reason behind the timing.

Mercy as the police have misunderstood the law a few times, I’m hoping they will be “light touch”. Travelling on Xmas Eve is a worry I think.

My sister isn’t coming, she thinks the law doesn’t allow it. I’m baffled, but the neighbours who are alone will be alone for similar reasons.

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 18:12

Mercy that link is out of date, I thought they’d withdrawn it, it wasn’t up last night?

A lot of people unclear what a 'support bubble' (in law a "linked household") is. Important as you can lawfully visit and stay with anyone in linked household for Christmas.

They became wider with last regulations

Linked households explained here:
