One packet of Angel Delight is four servings?!

I’m flabbergasted. Just treating myself to some Banana Angel Delight as you do and noticed when made up it’s meant to serve four people! Unless it means four kids , cos I appreciate it’s probably not aimed at my age group, but all the same.. Is that right or am I just greedy?

If you're eating Angel Delight, you're not doing it because you're thinking about a healthy diet that day, so you might as well have a proper portion. Obviously you can have tiny portions, but who wants to?

MrsGrindah · 03/12/2020 15:24

@Sparklingbrook I make no apologies! But do report back on your portion size...

I was thinking of making up both packets and chucking the bunch of bananas right in. Not sure if I am sharing any yet. Grin

Desert or dessert? I never know before the spelling police come along...

The pack claims to be 4 portions of 92g that are 109 calories. But it says to use semi skimmed milk-my full fat will mean more calories.

Ifailed · 03/12/2020 15:28

We don’t need lectures on obesity. It’s a lighthearted thread about a desert!

I see no lecturing, but it does highlight how much portion size has changed since the 1970s.

Dessert, but nobody noticed and it doesn't matter. Some people wouldn't dream to call Angel Delight a proper 'dessert' anyway. Grin

I haven't had Angel Delight for years. Spotted Strawberry on Tesco.com and ordered some, was very excited to try some yummy Angel Delight.

Do you know Angel Delight make crap jelly which looks very like the Angel Delight packet!? Sad

awwkkwwaard · 03/12/2020 15:34

I'm with you OP - we too used to have it between 4 in the 70s. But a tin of rice pudding would have done the same, it is quite unbelievable. In fact I think it has gone the way of everything and the packs have shrunk. I had a horrible shock the other day - bought some Andrex loo roll. Don't normally but that was all they had - and I was shocked at how small they were in my box that I keep them in. When I checked there were 170 sheets on a roll. 170!!!!!!!!!! There used to be 240!!!!!!!!! that is insane and they are very CFs!!!

Oh I haven't had it since the 80s. I have a proper craving now. It makes me think of taping the top 10 on a Sunday after a roast dinner and Angel Delight for pudding. I remember only having about two tablespoons worth though. I would eat a whole packet now.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2020 15:35

I would love one of these too now if we are going retro dessert...

Oh yes, and desperately trying to not get the DJ's voice on it. Pressing Play and record at the same time was a skill.

Yes! They spoke over the good songs on purpose Angry

Growing up as an only child it was just about ok between 3. I always knew it was supposed to be 4 but thought it was ridiculous.
Now we are a family of four and I only ever make 3 portions because I know 4 would be far too small. Luckily one ds doesn’t like it.

crochetmonkey74 · 03/12/2020 15:43

we had it between 4 as well- I have my mum's old plates form the early 80s- they were the fancy huge ones we used for Christmas etc and they are smaller than my day to day plates now

GrouchyKiwi · 03/12/2020 15:52

I buy supermarket knock-off Angel Delight (but only chocolate or butterscotch flavours) and serve it up with chopped nuts and/or tinned fruit and/or chocolate chips and/or ice cream. Sometimes I do all of the above and the children and I have it for dinner with some biscuits for dipping in when DH is working late or having a work night out. Otherwise it does all five of us for a very small pudding. My children are just little, however. It won't work when they're older.

FightingWithTheWind · 03/12/2020 16:06

I save the little glass pots from GU puddings, 1 pack of angel delight gets split between 4 of those perfectly....we do have whipped cream on top but they are sweet enough that a small pot satisfies a sweet craving.

PickAChew · 03/12/2020 16:15

@BobbinThreadbare123

I miss Angel Delight! I can't eat it because it's got lactose in it Sad Butterscotch is the best one. I'd have liked to try the buttermint flavour they used to have.
Alpro desserts are lush and a nice substitute, even if they lack the bubbles.
billy1966 · 03/12/2020 16:21

I made trifle with angel delight for my children and they loved it.

Bottom of the trifle dish, chopped sponge, topped with orange jelly, topped with tinned mandarins, topped with butterscotch delight, topped with loads of crumbled flakes.
They loved this.
Did the same with strawberry delight,
Digestive biscuit base,
Topped with lots of fresh strawberries,
Topped with strawberry delight,
Crumbled flakes.

Again the loved it and so easy to throw together.

MrsGrindah · 03/12/2020 16:27

TRIFLE WITH ANGEL DELIGHT! Why have I never ever thought of that before?!

OP posts:
MrsGrindah · 03/12/2020 16:29

@Sparklingbrook ...and telling my sisters to shut up because I was trying to record the charts! Think Peter Kay once did a routine about this and it was like he had had a camera in our house!

I find it serves 1-2 gluttons but if you put in those little glass containers the gu cheesecakes come in it serves 4

movingonup20 · 03/12/2020 16:42

@WutheredOut

Brilliant tip!

itsgettingweird · 03/12/2020 16:57

Whole packet of butterscotch made with slightly less milk so it's thick is the only way Grin
