One packet of Angel Delight is four servings?!

I’m flabbergasted. Just treating myself to some Banana Angel Delight as you do and noticed when made up it’s meant to serve four people! Unless it means four kids , cos I appreciate it’s probably not aimed at my age group, but all the same.. Is that right or am I just greedy?

I also use it to make cheesecake. I'm GF so use GF digestives and shortbread biscuits, real butter and angel delight.

That makes 4 servings 🤣

Ariela · 03/12/2020 17:17

Don't forget in the 1970s portion size was a lot smaller. I'm sure we had 1 pack between 5.

RB68 · 03/12/2020 17:18

Greens cheesecake mix with tinned mandarins on top, classic 80s along with trifle mix (didn't like that one) or Angel delight or home made chocolate cake. There were 5 of us eating but don't recall how many packets we used of anything and I was 16 when the youngest came along in 84 which made the half dozen

Oh yes the mandarins on the cheesecake-the finishing touch!
JustAPassingFashion · 03/12/2020 17:23

No. It's not.

billy1966 · 03/12/2020 17:25

Oh and I reduced the milk by 30% for a dense mousse texture.

They ask for it once a year still as it has lovely memories for them.
They call it "special trifle".😁

Years ago I brought one of each to a large family gathering and it took a lot of the adults down memory lane.

None of them could identify it as angel delight, just that it was very familiar!

StormyInTheNorth · 03/12/2020 17:28

When I took boyfriends home my mother used to whip up angel delight as dessert like I was 6 and having a playdate. I'm 37 so we're talking 15-20 years ago. DH knew he was onto a keeper when she announced it was my favourite dessert. It isn't but it is up there.

For all her failings, and trying to insult me with angel delight. It didn't work cos I love the stuff.

MrsGrindah · 03/12/2020 17:35

@awwkkwwaard I know. Why can’t our favourites stay the same? Damn these marketing people or whoever they are who tell companies they must constantly change things.

DH has just confessed to me that he doesn't like Angel Delight

Should I LTB?

(I've just put some in my online trolley)

Did you not sort this out before you married him? Shock Dealbreaker right there. Irreconcilable differences that is.
MrsGrindah · 03/12/2020 17:57

Well RoseandRose at least you know now.

Has he tried all the flavours? Might be some hope yet.
transformandriseup · 03/12/2020 18:15

We used to have it in ramekin dishes as children so 1 packet did go between four (2 adults and 2 children)

Didiplanthis · 03/12/2020 21:31

I'm reading this and considering popping to the shops after dropping the children at school to try some of the frankly amazing sounding suggestions... 2 DC with ASD...if I dared make 2 things touch in the bowl, especially 2 things they had not seen together before, it would not be a fun evening... although I would get to eat all the rejected 'contaminated' angel delight 🤔

Well... it does mean you won't have to share...

MrsGrindah · 04/12/2020 12:55

Apparently one of the contestants on I’m A Celeb has requested Angel Delight as their last meal!

Back in the day it used to be made with a pint of milk which is why it didn't seem so stingy.

No it was 1/2 pint, Instant Whip was 1 pint. I'm referring to the 70s, it may have changed after that.

StormyInTheNorth · 04/12/2020 20:12

I too bought angel delight. 2 packets with 1 pint of whole milk. It made 4 portions. I am off to see if DH hasn't eaten it.

kowari · 04/12/2020 20:17

It makes up about a 90g serving x4. The ready to eat pots are 70g and, for comparison, a Cornetto is 90ml. Sounds about right.

simonsays23 · 04/12/2020 20:57

One isn't enough for one person !!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

MrsGrindah · 04/12/2020 21:00

You can’t compare a Cornetto with a bowl of Angel Delight!

I made up two packets of butterscotch with a pint of milk and added two bananas. It was everything I thought it would be. DH doesn't like the Butterscotch flavour sadly.
