One packet of Angel Delight is four servings?!

I’m flabbergasted. Just treating myself to some Banana Angel Delight as you do and noticed when made up it’s meant to serve four people! Unless it means four kids , cos I appreciate it’s probably not aimed at my age group, but all the same.. Is that right or am I just greedy?

@Sparklingbrook I’m so happy for you. In these times we must find our joy wherever we can!

Definitely would pass as 4 portions here and kids wouldn’t moan they didn’t have enough

It did us a a family of 5 as kids. But I remember going to a friends house and being amazed at what they considered a portion. Even things like having a WHOLE can of coke to themselves, I was shook. Only adults would have a whole can in our house, we would get a little bit of coke on a Saturday night poured into a glass. I couldn’t believe my mate had a whole can to herself (80s)

I don't think I have ever served Angel Delight to my DC. They are 21 and 18 so I think that ship has sailed. They would have no idea what a portion of it was.

@MrsGrindah

You can’t compare a Cornetto with a bowl of Angel Delight!
Why? The Angel Delight pots are 70g. Cadbury layers of joy pots are 90g.
Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2020 21:24

Taste wise I would rather Angel Delight than a soggy coned Cornetto.

kowari · 04/12/2020 21:29

I was just using it as a comparison of serving size.

Oh i thought it was a comparison of possible desserts (although wouldn't count a cornetto as dessert). Maybe @MrsGrindah did too.
kowari · 04/12/2020 21:36

Serving size of desserts yes Confused.

Morrisons own brand serves 3. A portion is 133g.
Real angel delight serves 4, a portion is 92g.

The Banana one makes a great trifle.

The ready made pots are horrible, they have a weird gummy texture.

I think you used to be able to get the pots at KFC back in the 80s. Grin

If you didn't mention a family of 5 I would swear you were my sibling. This was the same in our house too. I remember my mum buying a king sized bar when we were out and dividing it up and passing round a can of coke to share.

Me too. I remember when we went swimming or out for the day, we'd take coke from a large bottle, in small drinks bottles, maybe 200-250 ml and we weren't allowed to have them full, only about two thirds.

I was also disbelieving when friends were allowed whole cans, bags of crisps etc without having to share, but I was one of 5 DC, and they were all one or two child families, so it's understandable.

We weren't poor but we weren't rich either so there was enough money if we were careful.

Apparently one of the contestants on I’m A Celeb has requested Angel Delight as their last meal

Do at least the Angel Delight people will know the reason for a sudden unexpected increase in demand, as it will be that rather than a random Mumsnet thread.

One packet served two adults and three children in my family in the 80s.

HeronLanyon · 05/12/2020 06:25

Not having had angel delight since the 70s I had huge craving for it a few years ago.
Tried to make it with oat (or almond?) milk - huge fail. I was whipping and refrigerating for ever. In the end I just drank it.
Next day bought milk and another packet - perfect.
Seem to remember it being a large portion which would have done for two of us if I hadn’t eaten it all myself.
Tasted exactly as I wanted it to.
May pick one up today after reading this thread. There’s just something about it.

MrsGrindah · 05/12/2020 08:13

@BarbaraofSeville I did wonder whether I could claim a free box of AD if as a result of this thread, sales increased!

@transformandriseup yes the same with the king size chocolate bar!

My DM would buy a king sized Mars Bar, cut it into thin slices and it would be shared out around the kids.

To be fair to her, none of us had cavities and even now none of us are overweight so swings and roundabouts really.
