We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

@Jourdain11 just catching up with all the news. Wishing you wellFlowers

Willow2017 · 09/12/2020 09:17

Hope you are better soon Jourdain11.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/12/2020 09:31

@Jourdain11, Flowers. Hope you feel better soon.

DD2 doesn't want to go to school in case she coughs once and gets sent home for two weeks. She loves school so for her to sacrifice even a day is a big deal.

TheOrchidKiller · 09/12/2020 09:43

@Jourdain11
Hope today is better for you.

"Now being told social distancing and masks will be with us for many months to come, after being told things will be more normal by Easter just a couple of weeks ago. More nudge theory?"
More like, if they get too specific with dates for when we can de-mask but then we can't because the vaccination programme is delayed (because someone Matt Hancock has forgotten something important, like plugging the storage freezers in), they won't lose too much face. After all, Bozza said we were supposed to be fairly normal by Christmas, & look what's happened there.

@LivinLaVidaLoki
According to the gushing Wikipedia page about Dr. Hilary, yes, he does indeed still practice. And he's "only"67. (That surprised me).

Sonicthehedgehogg · 09/12/2020 09:46

If I was a patient in his practice, I would request to see a different doctor.

NastyBlouse · 09/12/2020 10:00

Flowers Jourdain, hope you feel better soon.

NastyBlouse · 09/12/2020 10:01

Some wag has just tweeted this, which has had DH and me in stitches:

"My nan's just had the vaccine and now she's a wifi hotspot"

I ventured out of the safe confines of here and it's school-closing fuckwit central out there. They won't be happy until our kids are drooling idiots, floating around on anti depressants, illiterate and probably eating the crayons, and the women are chained to the kitchen sink.

Then they'll start threads complaining Tarquin is being held back by those parents who didn't construct the large hadron collider out of yoghurt pots and teach the theory of relativity to their own year 1 children appropriately during lockdown.

They are fuckwits.

DominaShantotto · 09/12/2020 10:18

Oh yeah and I found out that DD2's best friend at school had had covid (the whole family did) but school never closed the bubble or even advised the close contacts at all about it! No idea what went on there - unless the child came down after the adults were already at home ill anyway (I found out from the mum)!

DD2 is utterly utterly fine (well out of any time period the dementors have made up this week) - but obviously it's absolutely rife in schools! (This parent caught it from working in the NHS and then it went round the family)

TheOrchidKiller · 09/12/2020 10:35

"I ventured out of the safe confines of here and it's school-closing fuckwit central out there"
Is this because it's now 14 days until the magical 23rd December? Because if you've got your Christmas gathering planned out & someone goes down with covid, or is a close-contact, from today onwards that's your Christmas bubble plans screwed. So shut schools early & your chances of Christmas being spoiled might be less?

(Aargh! Only 14 days?! I have things to do!)

Very possibly.

DS is now has to stay inside passed end term date here as his year bubble popped yesterday.

Our chirtsmas plans all involve being in the house and having no vistors but I'm not sure how common that is . Though from Thursday the isolation time in wales is being reduced to 10 days - though I don't think that affects DS time inside as he's before that date.

this is the second time you've phrased something so brilliantly I think you should be paid for it to be put in print!
BogRollBOGOF · 09/12/2020 11:27

My recycling bin contains enough yoghurt pots to make a hadron collider. Probably one of the few things you could persuade DS1to make out of yoghurt pots Grin

I hope the ABs kick in quickly Jourdain. AD get-well hugs on their way.

Well, it's your family, & my family for a start. I'm not sure how common it is either, possibly more than it appears. It does feel a bit like the rest of the world are having get-togethers though.

I am genuinely sorry if people's plans go awry due to illness. But that happens anyway, doesn't it? We've had family pull out of parties & suchlike due to illness or bad weather. It's a shame, & disappointing. But no one keeps their children off school usually just before a big event, just in case one of them gets flu & might pass it on to 90 year old grandparents.

I'm off to build a Hadron collider out of the vast collection of yoghurt pots DH has emptied whilst WFH. Grin

DominaShantotto · 09/12/2020 11:52

We have certain parents in the class who have Tarquin-esque tendencies (finished the original lockdown work pack in a morning and begged for more work) - we also had one who converted their spare room into a classroom complete with wall displays.

I'm on "placement" again today - although this session is just producing resources which is absolutely my happy place and comfort zone.

justasking111 · 09/12/2020 12:54

To make you 😁

It snowed last night...
8:00 am: I made a snowman.
8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman.
8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 - My feminist neighbour complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 - The feminist neighbour complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 - TV news crew from BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.
9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.
By noon it all melted
Moral:
There is no moral to this story. It is what we have become, all because of snowflakes.”

@Jourdain11 Glad you've got a diagnosis and are being treated, hope you feel better soon.

Blobby10 · 09/12/2020 13:09

@justasking111 thats brilliant!

rosettesforjill · 09/12/2020 13:23

Well I have just been doing some Non Essential Shopping on my lunch break. Shops were pretty busy, nobody bothering with the shopping centre one way system, a half hearted attempt to enforce the correct path to the food hall in M&S.

I realised it was the first non essential (in person) shopping I had done probably since last Christmas!! Was lovely to go to a book shop and look at real books and browse through random tat in Flying Tiger - nobody seemed to be fussed about quarantining stuff that people had touched and it all felt pretty normal Smile

SirSamuelVimes · 09/12/2020 13:28

Just been for some casual murdering / Xmas shopping myself. Poor cashier in b&m was on the verge of tears, her auntie had died last night and she was on the edge. I reached over and squeezed her arm across the checkout and I don't give a shit, I'd do it again.

Jourdain11 · 09/12/2020 13:56

Thank you for the get-well wishes. I am missing out on all the fun, being locked up in the hospital. DS's bubble has burst (and apparently the positive kid is not even sick ... you gotta wonder why the parents bothered getting him tested) and DH had to make frantic arrangements for him to spend the day at a friend's house (a friend from his class), as he couldn't get off work at such short notice. I then got a call from the school saying that another parent had switched and told them that my DS is on a playdate with this other little girl and that the kids are supposed to be "in isolation, not playing at each other's houses". Because obviously it is soooooo dangerous for a child to spend the day with another child from the same bubble. DH rung them back at lunchtime and said that if the school want him to be able to arrange to take the day off work to look after DS, they need to be getting in contact before 8.25am. Only he put it a bit less politely than that (the phrases "jobsworth", "petty interfering busybodies" and "when you get to St. Peter's Gate..." featured) and his abusive language has duly been noted on our file Hmm😃

Then, another email arrived from DD2's class teacher (has this woman no better way to use her PPA time?) saying that DD2 was telling a very concerning story to her little friends about a man outside our house trying to sell her and daddy weed (yes, this did happen) and teacher is going to have to log it as a safeguarding issue. Oh, and the little monster has been coordinating Black Death games at breaktime and some of the other children were very distressed by the dramatic and graphic deaths...

I think we will be well and truly on the blacklist now!!!

However, my antibiotics and blood cell boosting cocktail seems to be kicking in. And the Covid test came back negative - so at least I'm not going to be a Sadly Daily!

Worldgonecrazy · 09/12/2020 14:16

@justasking111

Thanks. I needed a laugh today 😎🤪

BogRollBOGOF · 09/12/2020 14:41

Our school holiday just got longer. Yey.
I'm not really begrudging the school, but one week of October half term already felt too much like lockdown. Just more time to flop around the house ODing on tech, and squelching through mud. Sigh.

Morning all! I have mild pneumonia - bacterial, not Covidesque. So I shan't become a Covid stat - 👍👍👍 Currently in the Covid Pit being pumped with antibiotics, so I'm sorry for the short message!
I hope you feel better soon.
