Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

@Orangeblossom7777, I saw you 'over there' and was cheering you on.

Sometimes I write out a post and then delete it as it's clear that there are some who can't 'hear' any view that differs from theirs. I'm fully expecting one day to read something like 'no one should wear glasses because I don't need them'. When I do post I usually get pulled apart on some trivial point where I wasn't quite fussy enough about how I expressed myself.

NastyBlouse · 27/11/2020 10:55

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Just read that old Bojo apparently said last night "Your tier is not your destiny"

For fucks sake, he no longer thinks he's Churchill, he thinks he's fucking Obe wan Kenobi

More like Emperor Palpatine

I think this already happens. Colleague of mine, 40s, was abused in the street for having a walking stick. The man actually stood there yelling “why does someone your age need a walking stick - it’s to get attention”.

Orangeblossom7777 · 27/11/2020 11:17

I'll just say that sometimes maybe some areas are very emotive around illness and causes, I have noticed this in many areas for example around 'support groups' online..it tends to be a difficult area to broach that people might be able to change or do things about certain conditions..this can lead to people feeling 'blamed' etc

Have left some such groups in the past for another illness as it became too victim like and all about how doctors won't / don't help enough and can't cure incurable conditions, a misery fest really and made me feel worse not better.

Anyway maybe that applies to certain other diseases as well. Of course it is frustrating some things can't be cured or magicked away and we need to accept and learn to live with things but that is the reality at times.

With many many illnesses it is a combination of lifestyle, luck and treatment

@SirSamuelVimes So does that mean no indoor household mixing until Easter? I can't cope with that. Me neither. More importantly, its another nail in the coffin of the hospitality industry.

Orangeblossom7777 · 27/11/2020 11:22

MIL just rang and said she looks forward to meeting for a coffee now the cafes are opening. Don't think some people get it about the mixing thing.

Maybe she’s not bothered.
AcornAutumn · 27/11/2020 11:59

Or even breaking roolz on purpose

I do think they’ll only stop if people refuse to co-operate.

And the ridiculous thing is that it makes me more determined to meet up with people at Christmas because this is our only chance of being able to do normal things - like have a cup of tea on the sofa together etc.
If I thought it was only a shorter period of time I’d be more likely to do Christmas at home on our own (like we in fact do every year!).

I think that’s the “safest“ way to meet up and break the roolz really. The worst that can happen is that you get told off for “mingling” - and how is anyone to know whether you live together or are in a support bubble or not?

Can I ask a hugely off topic question?

Anyone had any success stripping woodchip? Prev I've steamed it off but I fucked up the plaster and I'm wanting to avoid re skimming if I can. Thinking of trying the liquid wallpaper stripper if anyone's got any advice Grin

justasking111 · 27/11/2020 12:30

Wales if fooked again, safest country in Europe, but suggesting figures are rising now. fuckity fuck.

I’ve not removed woodchip

But if the plaster is in poor nick, liquid wallpaper does the same and makes me cough. I ended up sticking with steam.

littlbrowndog · 27/11/2020 12:34

Steam it

Have had huge and beastly experience with it

littlbrowndog · 27/11/2020 12:34

Just don’t hold steamer on one patch too long

Bollss · 27/11/2020 12:40

Thanks guys! The last room I steamed half the bloody plaster fell off the walls! Assuming this room will be the same!

Just resign yourself to needing to reskim and budget for it. It's not worth the pain of trying to preserve the walls because you won't because woodchip is the wallpaper of Satan. Our entire bloody house was done in the bastard thing and it's taken me a decade to get it all tackled (the ceilings can fucking stay woodchipped).
justasking111 · 27/11/2020 12:42

Gave up with artex on hall stairs and landing, builder friend said dry line the lot. So we did.

Orangeblossom7777 · 27/11/2020 12:42

Yes she could be in a bubble thing I suppose. Bath looking busy today already, massive queue for some noodle stand. It is cold here today as well.

Yes sorry I should have mentioned before my aim was not having a go at fat people with that fit and healthy post but more about how the media / press report things wrongly. they have also done it with other things such as someone who didn't even have covid (think it was drugs) for example

It is like they are itching for a young and healthy story and saying it could happen to anyone / it could happen to you, it seems scare mongery, anyway all that got lost in that post but that was what I was meaning.

Enough of that now, time for a cuppa.

I had a similar experience when I used a disabled toilet 5 days after a total hip replacement. I was on crutches and need those pull down arms around the disabled loo. Got tutted at as I came out and comments like 'she's taking the mickey at her age'.

Bollss · 27/11/2020 12:44

We've re skimmed the rest of the house because the wall were shite Grin have kept the money to one side for re skimming just wondered if I could save having to do it!

And yes @DominaShantotto fuck the ceilings!! I haven't touched ours either Grin

littlbrowndog · 27/11/2020 12:46

There’s a great tool in the pound shop.

It’s like a razor blade on a long handle. It is awesome tool

They also sell erm what are they called

Smoothers for when you put the fillers in the hundreds of holes

They come in a pack of 5 different sizes. Use gypsum for filling. Much better than polyfiller

This happened to everyone in my block Of flats, Original plaster work was poor.

Wales update appears to say...nothing!
DominaShantotto · 27/11/2020 12:51

We had a fully tiled 1980s avocado bathroom... ALL the plaster came off with the tiles when that can of worms was opened.
