Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

@TrustTheGeneGenie I'm so, so sorry to hear about your friend Sad

Willow2017 · 24/11/2020 19:31

@JamSarnie

I agree MN is going to explode with the Christmas bubble threads Grin
Oh hell yes. Every 2nd thread will be "Its just a day" "why can't peoole understsnd..." "Why would you kill your granny for one day" yadda yadda yadda. I saw one comment on a newspaper saying we need to ve in lockdown till next year then covid will have gone by then! Like its just visiting then moving on to Mars or somewhere😄
Willow2017 · 24/11/2020 19:33

@MercyBooth

Meals outside? Its December. And some people live in flats Sridhar needs to check her privilege.
Dont be daft. If "I" dont experience it it never happens is many people's mantra.
rosettesforjill · 24/11/2020 19:35

I don't believe for a minute that these Christmas rules are going to be followed strictly... asking people to choose between sets of parents is 100% going to end badly

We've got eight households to juggle - nightmare! I'm not averse to rule bending but my family are probably one of the highest risk households in the group (I will probably be working out of home at least part time by then and both children will be in school/nursery). At this point I'd rather not expose my 90 year old grandma more than needed given we're now so close to a vaccine and may be close to being able to meet up properly. I hope they doesn't make me a Dementor Blush

rosettesforjill · 24/11/2020 19:36

*that not they

Sonicthehedgehogg · 24/11/2020 19:38

@rosettesforjill
It depends.... are you going to start making up your own rules for everyone else and piss on anyone's Christmassy chips?

If not, you're just someone assessing risk and making a decision based on some evidence Smile

TheOrchidKiller · 24/11/2020 19:39

I'm assuming its 3 households at a time. So I can see DP and DB on 23rd, DPIL on 24th, my little family on 25th, DSILs on 26th.

That's kind of how we interpreted it. If we got that wrong & it is actually the other way round then we're screwed. I am relieved that neither teen is in a romantic entanglement this year- that would be a nightmare to sort out!

I've felt so stressed by life today that I felt physically unwell. I've decided the rest of my extended family can do what they want, I'm not getting in a tizz trying to sort them out this year. If they choose not to see us I'll be fine alone with all of the mince pies for company, & if anyone I don't want to see chooses me for their bloody bubble I might go down with a cough

ISaySteadyOn · 24/11/2020 19:42

@rosettesforjill, no, because as I read your post, you are making decisions about your own family and not yelling at us about how we are bad people for not doing exactly the same as you.

I personally have come to the conclusion that no virus or disease is worth the destruction of normal human interaction. But that's me. Anyone else can do what makes them feel better. They don't have to be the same.

Well... I might start some sort of rumour that boiled sprouts are breeding grounds for Covid and must sadly be BANNED IMMEDIATEY

rosettesforjill · 24/11/2020 19:46

*IMMEDIATELY

Getting myself too worked up there

@rosettesforjill but, but ones with bacon are ok? Surely??? The bacon kills it. I'm sure of it....

((Clutches at straws))

Missushbb · 24/11/2020 19:50

Sorry so behind here, this seems like a nice thread, can I ask what AD means?

BogRollBOGOF · 24/11/2020 19:51

No! Don't ban sprouts, you'll break DS1's heart! They've been his favourite food since he was 1, even more than smoked salmon and olives. He's an unconventional little soul Grin

I’m torn over Christmas Day. Parents have invited me and DS for lunch but DS works in a supermarket and my parents are ECV. We’d both love to spend the day with them rather than in my flat on our own but not sure if we should. Parents aren’t bothered but it’s a lot to put on an 18 year old if either of them become ill. Hope that doesn’t make me too dementor like.

Missushbb · 24/11/2020 19:52

Ah I think I know. Anti dementors?

TheOrchidKiller · 24/11/2020 19:52

Sounds reasonable to me.

It depends.... are you going to start making up your own rules for everyone else and piss on anyone's Christmassy chips?
Is the definition of "Christmassy chips" roast parsnips? I was always fooled into thinking they were massive chips when I was a child, & bitterly disappointed, which is a version of having your chips pissed on.

I just googled the official UK govt guidance on How To Do A Traditional Row At Christmas With The Family & it doesn't appear to be out there yet. So no point speculating until it is there in black & white, when it is far easier to see which bits can be misinterpreted...

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/11/2020 19:54

@Missushbb
It stands for anti dementor.

The dementors are creatures from Harry Potter that suck all joy and hope out of life.
It was decided that there are enough of those in errr other places on Mumsnet so we come here.

Its an amazing thread with amazing people who have saved my sanity more than once. We make each other laugh and support each other through this whole mess.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 24/11/2020 20:00

Sprouts are to remain as long as they are a) not overboiled b) not got a stupid cross cut into them c) pan or wok fried with bacon

Missushbb · 24/11/2020 20:01

Thanks: nice to see a cheerier thread! Think we are all starting to struggle now. Being a home so much has started to make me so lethargic! Did the exercise bike for half a hour which I'm going to try and keep up. 👍

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/11/2020 20:02

Noooo, sprouts are the work of the devil! Adding chestnuts and bacon is just a waste of chestnuts and bacon, they become contaminated by the bitter green little horrors. I'm quite sure they spread Covid and should be banned at once.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 24/11/2020 20:03

@Missushbb I keep being seduced by adverts for peloton (plus a few people on insta doing it). Alas, no room for a bike.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/11/2020 20:04

Catching up now - many congratulations, @110APiccadilly! I hope little Bredon is doing well.

I'm so sorry about your friend, @TrustTheGeneGenie. Flowers, hope you're doing OK.

WouldBeGood · 24/11/2020 20:04

To my surprise, roasted sprouts are the favoured bar snack in New York 😃 Delicious too

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/11/2020 20:05

@WouldBeGood, these New Yorkers are crazy...

justasking111 · 24/11/2020 20:05

I suspect there is many a family breathing a sigh of relief that they have an excuse to stay home alone thus avoiding the dreaded rellies Grin
