🎤On the National Express
There’s a jolly hostess
Giving porridge free
She’ll provide you with shots
amaretto or what
You like to seeeeee...

Going out was in style
Now we’re stuck in this aisle
Dream of being free
And it’s hard to get by
When your arse is the size
Of the furlough feeeeeee🎤

Bah ba ba la
Bah ba ba la

Tomorrow belongs to meee...

Welcome to the 17:38 to freedom, stopping at virtual hugs, critical discourse, and random tangents along the way. ETA unknown...

"... Perhaps the real scientists may not think much of the tyrants’ ‘science’– they didn’t think much of Hitler’s racial theories or Stalin’s biology. But they can be muzzled."

Have you noticed how 'scientists' are 'experts', scientists' or even 'boffins' when they agree with the poster and 'charlatans' when they don't?

I'm yet to recover from the eminent and respected oncologist Karol Sikora, to whom many people owe their continued lives, being described as a charlatan for having the brass neck to suggest that there are other issues in people's lives beside Covid, one being cancer, and a balance should be sought in the country's response to Covid.

@SirSamuelVimes

Apparently no-one would have to worry if they weren't doing anything wrong! I am at the other end of the estate so I'm just watching from the sidelines like this Shock
Well they need to put up signs saying they are watching people and why, I wonder why someone has not put on a mask and sprayed paint over it to be honest. I would.
NastyBlouse · 16/11/2020 16:56
@NastyBlouse what a wonderful selection of words. I am now thinking of 'flocking boffins' and 'romping tots'.
The one that always set my teeth on edge was 'panties'. Only journalists seemed to use this word for knickers (was especially popular in the news of the world). It managed to be both coy and seedy at the same time.
Urgh yes there’s something about ‘panties’ that makes me squirm too.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54933313

Tim Miller, 50, had a fractured tooth which became an abscess that went behind his eye, damaging his eyesight.

"It felt like acid was being poured in my eye. That was the start of about eight and a half months of discomfort and pain as I tried to find an NHS dentist."

"I must have tried about 10. When eventually I located one - the best advice they could come up with was can you go private?"

"I did have some incredibly dark thoughts. I got to the point where I wanted it to stop and there wasn't much I wouldn't have done to make it stop."

Tim, who is on benefits, is not signed up with an NHS dentist. He only managed to afford private treatment after several of his friends chipped in to pay the bill.

He tooth taken out and his infection is now receding - but he is waiting to find out if he may have permanent damage to his eyesight.

NastyBlouse · 16/11/2020 17:02

@SirSamuelVimes Isn’t it extraordinary, the lengths some people will go to? It’s equal parts sad, scary, pathetic and depressing. I loathe the old ‘if you’ve done nothing wrong you’ve got nothing to hide’ position.

Oooh — speaking of which — another one for the AD playlist occurs: Integral by the Pet Shop Boys. Hinges on satirising that whole concept and it’s a proper tune too.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/11/2020 17:08

What's the obsession with traffic? All the discussions bemoaning whether this is a proper lockdown or not are half-filled with complaints about traffic.

Just had a nice drive out to a park with flat smooth paths. Totally legitimate. 2020 traffic being "bad" is 4 cars waiting at a particular junction. Previously it took 5-10 mins to inch your way past there and backed up half a mile if you got the moment wrong.

People really have forgotten what normal traffic was like.

OH snorted when he saw the man who had not registered with a dentist then complaining when he could not get into one. Said he should get a job and save money for a rainy day. He then morphed into why do people not have money for a rainy day in the 21st century?

Pharmacists said sales of antibiotics had risen 25% to dentists during lockdown. OH had two lots while he waited to get back into his dentist. The funny thing was by the time he saw the dentist twice for treatment the tooth was not playing up, but it should still be extracted because it was loose.

justasking111 · 16/11/2020 17:16

Been on a killing spree to Smyths with OH, bought noisy toys, boxing gloves for grand kids. Grandpa had a ball looking at and buying the toys.

I tried to open a packet of ten masks and dropped the lot in the car park because I had not realised OH had opened the other end at some point Blush

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/11/2020 17:40

Thanks @amicissimma
I've just finished for the day, literally not stopped since 0730. Shattered.

Just heard bojo talking about isolated "even though I've had it, even though I'm fit and feel well.." blah blah.

Wonder if he's trying to get more compliance in that 'look I'm in it too'! Kinda way.....

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 17:45

tbh @LivinLaVidaLoki if that is the ploy i dont think it will work. That ship has sailed.

Wanksock has just said on the Daily Briefing that they cant be sure the lockdown will end on 2nd December

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/11/2020 17:47

So the leader of Hull Council wants to close schools.....

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 17:52

I think the doctor they were talking to in Hull wants a lockdown till Feb/March

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/11/2020 17:55

@MercyBooth
I think he is just loving being at the centre of the drama and the feeling of power that gives him. Take that away from him and what has he got? A failing NHS and a social care sector that hate him. For the first time people know who he is. So I mostly take his sweeping statements with a pinch of salt.

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 17:55

In which case he will be treating diseases and afflictions caused by poverty long after the pandemic is over.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/11/2020 17:57

Ohhhh he won't want to get his hands dirty doing anything like that.
I suspect he'll be scapegoated and booted long before then.

Also whats this bullshit about long covid clinics?

TheOrchidKiller · 16/11/2020 17:58

@justasking111
"Been on a killing spree to Smyths with OH, bought noisy toys, boxing gloves for grand kids."
And
"Wanksock has just said on the Daily Briefing that they cant be sure the lockdown will end on 2nd December"

Do they do those boxing gloves in adult sizes? I have very twitchy knuckles....

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 17:59

Oh i meant the Hull doctor that wants a lockdown till spring.

Reedwarbler · 16/11/2020 18:37

I saw elsewhere the nhs described as the 'Notional' health service. I thought this was very apt. It is certainly no longer for for purpose. This is not the fault of all the hard working 'troops', but mismanagement at all levels. I would like to think things will change, but I somehow doubt it.

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 18:41

I posted this on another thread last night. Its not meant as a dig to anyone who has been on holiday or is planning to. Its just how i feel.

The rich had their ski trips They had their Cheltenham (whats the betting there is a lockdown to save Cheltenham 2021) They had their holidays in the summer. As someone who rents, who has done these lockdowns in a tiny flat who hasnt been abroad since the 80s, does not go to pubs or restaurants I want my family Christmas.

This will only be 3 households and six people at MOST.
Obvs if anyone tested positive for Covid this would all be off. But believe me the way it looks from here is that its ppl lower down the socio economic scale expected to give up the little they do have.
Sick of it!

Evenstar · 16/11/2020 18:52

I am so angry, just seen this on Facebook from a bargain and coupon page implying that anyone wearing a sunflower lanyard with a mask exempt card has bought it just to get out of wearing a mask and is abusing it 😡 I have reported to Facebook as fake news as it didn’t seem to fit the criteria for a disability hate crime. Perhaps you could report too if you have FB

ADs take the National Express when their lives' in a mess, it will make them smile
MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 19:07

Ive found it and reported it too.

TheOrchidKiller · 16/11/2020 19:27

Blimey, that's not nice, that picture of the burning lanyard.
But hang on, they're saying they don't support the wearing of the lanyard by people who they have decided don't have a hidden disability. I thought the point of the lanyards was to highlight to others that you might need a bit more understanding & support, without anyone else judging you. But these people are judging & making assumptions about everyone wearing the lanyards! Not at all contradictory or judgemental!

Evenstar · 16/11/2020 19:35

Thank you, I just think by some of those comments we are going to see bullying behaviour off the back of that.

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 19:58

If i see any bullying behaviour related to that while Im out and about i will call it out there and then.
