Going out was in style
Now we’re stuck in this aisle
Dream of being free
And it’s hard to get by

That means I have so little faith in my lanyard, I try to wear a mask and it made me dizzy yesterday.

In other views, Does anyone else never want to hear the name Captain Tom Moore ever again?

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 20:09

I saw a tweet a while ago that was asking. "Why is Marcus Rashford called a virtue signaller while Captain Tom Moore isnt"

DominaShantotto · 16/11/2020 20:11

I already get absolutely vile looks and comments when I wear my lanyard. I've managed to push it so I can almost get around Tesco in a mask - it'll throw me for most of the day afterwards but if DH isn't there - it's not worth risking me going with no mask and a lanyard as funnily - without a large bloke with me I tend to get the abuse then.

The mask-exemption thing and organisations DEMANDING (looking at YOU my dear uni) that you wear one if you can't wear a mask has made the entire hidden disabilities scheme utterly worthless in the future as it's never going to ditch the associations.

Does anyone else think the Protect The NHS slogan is starting to be seen as a bit emotionally blackmaily now

ISaySteadyOn · 16/11/2020 20:16

Isn't that lovely? It's more of the same fearful selfishness. I bet not one of us who don't mask up for whatever reason would force someone out of their mask. But some people would have us all in hazmat suits because they are scared.

I loathe this sort of thing. Luckily, where I live isn't very dementory and no one cares really as long as you are shopping.

I was never overly keen on it. In the nicest possible way, we're not here to protect the NHS, it's here to protect us. There's fair a point about not abusing it - showing up for appointments, doing our best to look after ourselves and so on - but why should it suddenly be our collective life goal to protect it?

It always was. Protect the NHS by dying or suffering quietly at home. Don't burden it with your petty medical problems.
TabbyStar · 16/11/2020 20:19

I hardly see anyone without a mask, lanyard or not, though I did see a woman in Waitrose yesterday with a cardboard sign around her neck saying "I'm exempt from wearing a mask" which seemed horribly labelling. I always smile at anyone not wearing a mask inside - usually older people - though obviously it's not clear that they can actually tell I'm smiling in my mask....

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 20:31

I agree. But i think more people are starting to read between the lines with these slogans now.

MercyBooth · 16/11/2020 20:39

fb said that post doesnt go against their community standards. FFS

110APiccadilly · 16/11/2020 20:50

I've reported posts in the past for being racist (very clear anti-Semitic tropes) and sexist (straight up saying women are not as intelligent as men and shouldn't be allowed to vote) and FB has told me they don't go against their community standards. I am left wondering what does, frankly.

Yes, and my dad worked there for 40+ years and was proud to do so.

Now, within a few short months, they’ve even managed to turn me against it. I keep thinking what other systems might work better.

I did always think there was a lot of waste in the nhs and services that shouldn’t be offered though- but that’s a whole other thread.

I know the feeling. I've reported loads of abuse on there - one post telling someone to take a bath with a toaster - nothing gets taken down.
Sonicthehedgehogg · 16/11/2020 20:59

Completely not on-topic but I start my new job tomorrow morning... wish me luck ADs! Back into the world of full time AND shifts 😱

NeedWineNow · 16/11/2020 21:00

Whilst I can't say too much for fear of it being outing (it's DH's field not mine) this Protect the NHS slogan infuriates me. It would be far more able to cope if it was better managed and didn't pay out millions in medical negligence claims every year. I am astounded at some of the things I hear.

justasking111 · 16/11/2020 21:04

You know what puzzles me is that whenever an NHS worker says that lots of people have left the NHS both in the first wave and when they saw the second wave coming. What on earth are they doing for money to pay rent/mortgage/food bills. Do they all marry well?

How many could afford to leave, ditto teachers and other key workers.

Dancetherain · 16/11/2020 21:04

I came across that post on Fb earlier, horrible!

I think all the slogans are just annoying now. I would never judge anyone for not wearing a mask and it makes me sad that people with disabilities feel they have to explain. I was dealing with a patient the other day who had a sunflower lanyard and kept apologising but she had various issues that meant she just couldn't wear a mask. I just felt sorry for her, its bad enough to have to go to hospital without worrying people are judging you too.

NeedWineNow · 16/11/2020 21:05

PS. Not wishing to offend any of the ultra hard working NHS AD's on here who do an amazing job - it's the overload of incompetent managers that makes me angry.

Dancetherain · 16/11/2020 21:07

@justasking111 I don't know anyone who has left the NHS recently and I certainly wouldn't, not a lot of really secure jobs out there right now!

Good luck @Sonicthehedgehogg for tomorrow, exciting!

Reedwarbler · 16/11/2020 21:37

What I find difficult to swallow, re this 'protecting the nhs' (and I quite agree, in that it is actually there to protect us) is that the message has changed so much. In March we were stopping excessive demand on services by locking down, now we seem to have been walled up in our houses until the virus has gone. I have a very bad feeling that come early December the message will change again which will result in further restrictions.. I only hope the backbenchers rebel (or failing that, the populace). The whole situation is utter madness, and yes, I really think Boris is hiding. There is absolutely no reason he could not be tested daily. Thinking of the annoying 'clap for carers' earlier in the year, I think we ought to have a 'boo for Boris' daily. And, btw, test and trace is so brilliant it tells people who are immune to covid to isolate. So how does that work when we have a vaccine? Will it be still be telling immune people to shut themselves away for 2 weeks? That is hardly going to get the country back on its feet.
This government is a disgrace. We need to take our country back.

Well now its anything and anyone questioning the vaccine or the people behind it or gov policy or actions. I have had a post sharing the latest article from the BMJ re the damage done during lockdown flagged up and classed as fake and removed by FB! Labour and the gov are looking to make it unlawful to question the vaccine (and who profits from it) and are ' "working with SM sites who are dkteady doing their part" (to censor what we are allowed to access for ourselves to enable adults to make critical judgements of our own) according to good old Mr Hancock!
WouldBeGood · 16/11/2020 21:41

We pay for the fucking NHS. It’s not a generous gift to be bestowed on us if we’re good

Dancetherain · 16/11/2020 21:56

Absolutely agree @wouldbegood we pay for the NHS and it should be working for us and run in such a way so that it does work for us, this is not always the case.

I made a totally non essential trip into town today to buy sandwiches in M&S. I was on a rush so was like a guided missile from the car to the shop and was halfway towards the sarnies when I realised my mask was in my hand. I can’t have come across anyone from the Covid board as I didn’t get any abuse or passive aggressive comments!

I then did a totally non essential long trip home just to drive my car for a bit longer. I’ve had it 2 months and only done 300 miles!
