ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

I may have eaten 2 slices of cake in retaliation, & now feel sick.

I've noticed I seem to have some sort of "lockdown diet" mentality, and each time have ended up eating stuff I never normally eat. Part of it is because DD is eating more at home instead of at work, and she's doing a lot of the cooking but she eats more meat and pasta than I would when alone, but also there's something psychological about it being exceptional times and I deserve it and it doesn't "count".

TheOrchidKiller · 09/11/2020 18:29

I'm trying really hard to not eat the "wrong" stuff, @Tabbystar.
I've also tried much harder to do some sort of basic exercise, & I do feel better for it.

I just think I'm battling with the dark nights - I feel exhausted, migrainey, & want to comfort eat between late October & late January. I've got a SAD lamp but getting outside makes the biggest difference. Unfortunately, that hasn't been possible today.

I confess to feeling a bit like that Giant Doctor and an AD today, if that's possible. Can't talk about it on here, but I feel quite, "Why are we bothering?!" as well as completely understanding why some people aren't following self-isolation rules, it's not always about people being "selfish", there are people who genuinely don't understand the guidelines.

I feel worn down so I ate all the cake.

Oh well.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/11/2020 18:34

I'm doing better since the DCs went back to school and I'm not having to constantly stodge them with carbs!

I like stir-fry for lunch. DH has a Pot Noodle Grin

I boredom ate a lot from March-July which I think was seeking sensory stimulation.
My appetite was down last week as I felt stressy and clenched.

@HitchikersGuide

Loving the fact that a few of the usual Ds are out on the boards lamenting not enough vaccine, 'only' 90% success rate, therefore.... Yes that's right... We should still all 'stay home' even once it's rolled out. God they should really all set themselves up with a Covid sex line that they can ring when in need of a bit of salivating excitement around 'stay home' (aaargh at least add the 'AT'!), oooh, lungs, long covid; for an extra 10p a minute, someone could sexily talk about ventilators, and hmhmm masks. Anyway, I have no interest in the vaccine myself having miraculously survived the deadly deadly virus, along with everyone else I know BUT I very much hope it comes through so that the Covid-obsessed bugger off.
Doesn't the flu vaccine only have a 50-60% efficacy,?
LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/11/2020 18:42

@MercyBooth

The vaccine is great news.

I think its going to take a long time for people to forget how they were treated though, the mask exemption hatred for one. The use of the phrase Covid denier to silence people who have been critical of the Governments response to it, Dominic Cummings Ferguson Farrier et al. Its thrown up a side to society i dont much care for
I think the ramifications of things like this will last a long time after the pandemic itself is over.

Absolutely this @MercyBooth

Please may I lower the tone with the magnificent bellend I found in my fridge? Chopping it up was very therapeutic.
If you'd told me back in January I'd be posting pictures of rude veg on the internet I wouldn't have believed you.

Oh my
AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 20:29

I’ve done two hard workouts - well hard for me - today and yesterday. I gained a lot of flab and lost any fitness I had after Lockdown 1.

Now I’m like this

AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 20:31

Excellent veg.

Mercy, that’s my BFF nearest Tesco, she will be furious! She goes round there because there’s nowt else to do!

TheOrchidKiller · 09/11/2020 20:39

Hmm, what would Nigella do with a butternut squash like that?
I roasted mine & it was delicious.

They've barricaded upstairs costa in ours.

bluetongue · 09/11/2020 20:52

Anyone else fallen out with family over this? It turns out my sister is a massive dementor. In her mind this is the end of the world as we know it and nothing is going to be the same again. Ever.

I’m in Australia, in a state with no Covid cases outside hotel quarantine. As far as I’m concerned the rules here that nobody can drink alcohol standing up inside are insane. I mean I don’t normally drink at pubs standing up but that’s not the point. It makes no sense. Also in Victoria the rules are masks any time outside your house, inside and outdoots, even though they haven’t had a case in days. Why should someone walking the dog by themselves wear a mask in an environment where almost nobody has Covid? Her attitude is along the line of ‘you can’t be too careful’. It drives me insane!

bluetongue · 09/11/2020 20:59

Oh and because I don’t want social distancing indefinitely, even if there is no community transmission where we live I’m a granny killer Angry

Sorry, that sounds like a nightmare. Luckily my sister is on the same page as me, sort of....I would struggle in your place. I feel for you.

TheOrchidKiller · 09/11/2020 21:17

Sorry, @MercyBooth, but nothing beats a Colin, & I like a Percy Pig as much as the next woman. Colin is the supreme champion of caterpillar cakes. Clyde, Wiggles, & Cuthbert are no match (& I should know, we've had them all in this house, including the imposter caterpillar cake I fashioned out of a cheap swiss roll & smarties when DS was 2).

JamSarnie · 09/11/2020 21:30

You aren't helping with the pictures of cake. Since mockdown the comfort eating has started again 😭

TheOrchidKiller · 09/11/2020 21:30

@bluetongue not fallen out with anyone but my DM & others I know have been prone to dementory speeches. With them, it seems to come from real anxiety about catching or spreading covid. So to a certain extent I bit my tongue & went along with their wishes (eg not meeting up for months because it "wasn't safe" in their minds).

But I have dripped the odd rational comment in to conversations, & got more confident at gently questioning their rationale over time.

They are now admitting they hate lockdown, & that some of the restrictions have been illogical.

It's that old thing about picking your battles & deciding if a stressful event is worth losing your friendship over.

westendgirl · 09/11/2020 23:03

Oh. For. Goodness. Sake.

I went for a walk today finishing with going into town for a coffee.

THE COUNCIL HAVE CLOSED THE TOILETS. There weren't many, they pay local businesses to let the public use theirs. But the places doing takeaway said that the Council have told them not let people use their toilets.

We're on the outskirts of London with lots of nice places to walk and cycle, so people come from all over and spend money here and are very welcome. But they have to pee and poo all over the open spaces because the Council think it's safer to spread possibly Covid-bearing bodily fluids around the area and not be able to wash their hands properly.

I was so cross I even emailed a Councillor before I posted on Mumsnet.

Sorry, this made me laugh! 😃
It is a bit crap though - sorry, maybe not the best phrase to use - and I thought it was specified in the government guidance that they were to remain open?
