ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

In case this helps any of you during the new lockdown the Times did a list of 'loopholes' today I'll list some of the main things. Although think people are generally good and just using common sense, it may be helpful for those who are anxious about people hassling them or whatever...

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/new-lockdown-restrictions-work-from-home-exercise-all-day-and-order-your-pint-by-post-nvb00w9sr

Takeaway drinks allowed (including alcohol)
Wild swimming, is allowed. Lidos will close (brr)
Fishing ok (hmm)
Personal trainers can continue one-on-one sessions in the park

DominaShantotto · 04/11/2020 13:06

Oh yeah and we got an email at 7am entitled "school today" so I was thinking "oh fuck"... the boiler's acting up so we were told to send them in wrapped up! DD1's class teacher is already ignoring the "keep the door open" edict as his classroom is right next to the most sought after zone on the playground so there are kids out there most of the day.

Whoooootaminute · 04/11/2020 13:06

Ah-- I just posted on the old thread.

I am busy watching the US elections whilst pottering about in the kitchen prepping soup and stuff.

It's a CIRCUS! Better than any tv drama.

SirSamuelVimes · 04/11/2020 13:09

Hurrah for the new thread! Poor Angela though, she missed her moment in the sun Grin.

So glad you got to the zoo, @ISaySteadyOn. Hope you have a lovely day.

I had a mooch round Aldi this morning. I only needed bread, came out with a sewing machine. Bloody love the middle aisle. And DD loves a ride in a trolley, she missed it during lockdown 1. I am not going to be leaving her at home this time around. Screw it.

Today feels like a horrible waiting day. Our parliament voting on lockdown 2 and the election counting in the US. I know what the likely outcome of each thing is but the bit of doubt is a killer.

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/11/2020 13:12

We got a worrying email letter from schools MAT yesterday about things they may do

Put them in the hall
use support staff to teach
close classes
finish early
close schools

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/11/2020 13:13

US is even madder than here.

MoltenLasagne · 04/11/2020 13:16

Oh I've found you early doors this time. I'm mostly a lurker but will be happy to have some sanity in my "I'm On" when Active gets a bit much!

There are a couple true dementors at work who are convinced fatality rate is around 10% so I've been slowly bringing the rest of the team onto the AD side. There's now a secret nod on Zoom calls when they start up again which is helping combat the doom and gloom!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/11/2020 13:17

Checking in. Went for a bit of shopping today, picked up new glasses, got ds hair cut and tonight, going out for a pub tea. Wahooooo

Reedwarbler · 04/11/2020 13:23

At least it's a beautiful sunny day here and I've had a lovely walk with the dog.
A comment on the last page of the last thread about people enjoying the peace and slowness of lockdown. All I can say is they most probably have a happy and fulfilled family life, a comfortable home and a secure job to go back to. I find it hard to believe that the majority of people in this country fit into that category.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 04/11/2020 13:28

Checking in!

I was thinking about that this morning @Reedwarbler and I thought how strange that us enjoying eating out or visiting our friends are met with "how can you be out enjoying yourself, people are DYING" but they are never met with "how can you say you are enjoying this....People are DYING".

Either you're allowed to find enjoyment in life or you're not. Not just find enjoyment from a pre approved list....

BogRollBOGOF · 04/11/2020 13:55

One advantage of lockdown 2.0... at least the TV and media don't have that maudlin tone worthy of a senior royal death. Last time, the first few weeks were like staying at home in the middle of the world's second dullest funeral.

I say second because my Great-Grandma's funeral was at one of the more culty churches, and it was like a bible study class on the theme of Death. She was 91 and spent her last 15 years in a chair in the kitchen facing the brick wall of the terrace 8ft away being of the generation that saved things for best including the bay window overlooking the park at the front... except there was no best.

She'd have been in her element this year. All those dreadful deaths of the most casual aquaintences' casual aquaintences to reverently fawn over in that tone of voice, and lots of staying the fuck at home doing fuck all being such a worthy thing to do. Grin

An advanced old age suited her rather well.

Morning all.

It’s a lovely day here, although a bit nippy and frost in the garden 1st thing.
Finally got what feels like a weeks worth of washing out on the line.

They news is entertaining. Between trumps craziness and Theresa May in the lockdown debate saying “can I first of all say to my right honourable friend that I don’t envy him and the government, the decisions that they’re having to take and the difficult position they find themselves in”.... in other words....”haha fuck off you backstabbing bastards, you did me the biggest favour of my career, cheers 🍻”, I’m having a good old laugh 😆

ultragroupie · 04/11/2020 14:08

Thanks for the new thread!

justasking111 · 04/11/2020 14:10

US friends on FB frothing they will emigrate, sail around the world if Trump gets in. The sad thing is there will be protests, vandalism, molotov cocktail types who will cause as much mayhem as they can. A lot of violence to come.

Grandson had a melt down outside school yesterday because mummy collected him instead of me, all because of lockdown we are being uber careful, snitchers at the school gates. Well OH is going to walk to collect him and sneak him past our nosey neighbour who will tut, despite the fact she crossed into England during lockdown to see her lot.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 04/11/2020 14:13

DH been following US election for months last night apparently he'd had enough of it just I was watching the exit polls.

I had pointed out beyond the headline there were signs and people warning last week or so it would be closer than it looked.

I don't get it - but it's a different seperate culture more so than it often appears to be and I expect the full range of poltical issues don't fit into the coverage we get over here.

We're looking forward to bonfire night tomorrow- tea cooked over the firepit, hot cocoalate with cream and marshmallows , an attempt at smores and some volcanoes, saucers, really long sparklers and indoor fireworks we'll do outside. Not the same as an organised display we'd normally do but hopefully fun.

DrDiva · 04/11/2020 14:36

Personal trainers can continue one-on-one sessions in the park
But any Physical activities for kids have to close, so no swimming, tennis, judo, football, which DS has lost this year. (This may sound like a lot, but he exhausts the Duracell bunny, and these activities also meant that I didn’t have to run around a muddy field incessantly, trying to west him out.)
BASTARDS

We also have purchased fireworks, non-bang ones in deference to the neighbour’s dog.

DrDiva · 04/11/2020 14:36

WEAR him out.
His mental health needed activity too Sad

Sonicthehedgehogg · 04/11/2020 14:53

My wonderful MIL is doing some food shopping for us. DH is asleep so just had to have a LOVELY chat about exactly what type of moist bum wipes her son likes 🤦🏽‍♀️

JamSarnie · 04/11/2020 14:57

Found you all.

Thought the old thread was a bit quiet 😆

bookworm14 · 04/11/2020 14:59

Checking in. I hardly seem to come onto these threads nowadays!

bengalcat · 04/11/2020 15:04

Great thread , this looks like the place where the response to ‘ what do I need to do before lockdown / prepping ‘ is Botox , Blowdry , wax and hair dye to cover roots .

Sonicthehedgehogg · 04/11/2020 15:14

I can assure you Bengal that I for one, am a hot mess of a woman who has done none of those things Grin

One of us is at the zoo though....

110APiccadilly · 04/11/2020 15:16

Hello all. On the US election, I thought it was the presidency that was meant to last 4 years, not the counting of the votes! Glad I didn't stay up for it. Baby gave me a worry last night so was off putting strain on the NHS. False alarm but they were lovely about it and said I was right to go and see them.

DrDetriment · 04/11/2020 15:18

I keep seeing these threads and wondering who the ADs are? Would anyone mind letting me know or is it another one of these MN threads where you have to be in the know from the start? Thanks.
