Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Been out down to the river for a run.
Lots of people in pairs down at the outdoor gym which has been largely disentangled from the hazard tape that was put around it. There were a couple of police/ PCSOs around when I parked up, but I think they moved on without incident as it stayed busy.

I've never known the river path be so busy (admittedly I avoided it in the spring/ early summer for that reason.) A lot more older people out than a few months ago which is good.

Frustrating that the sports courts were padlocked. The DCs and I had a great play in there when rules eased a little in May. Why can't a family of children access a basket ball ring/ goal, especially as the actual fields reach squelch mode for the winter. This time last year they were a lake!

Silver linings, more people out wandering (and good to see people in pairs getting company) makes me feel a bit more alive and connected.

Flowers & Cake to anyone struggling for whatever reason.

There really is no reason why two people shouldn't play tennis or table tennis at public courts as long as they bring their own equipment.
The dc have a riding lesson tomorrow after the guidance said this was allowed. DP has instructed me that if I have an accident and have to phone the insurance I am to tell them I was driving to do some exercise.

HitchikersGuide · 12/11/2020 14:57

Noticed that the tape round the outdoor gym in our local park had been ripped off and a bloke was there exercising. Gate was still padlocked so he'd obviously vaulted over.
What a f'ing ridiculous reaction to Covid: to close off outdoor gyms where people could actually get a bit healthier.

HitchikersGuide · 12/11/2020 14:58

I was so happy that someone had rebelled when I'm too pathetic to do so!

Blobby10 · 12/11/2020 15:10

I hope this link (mainly the tone of it!) makes some of you chuckle like I did!! I love how they got a vet from Australia to state that dogs and cats may get distressed wearing masks Grin

I'm enjoying seeing people rebelling in small, safe ways. Not against the sensible rules but against the meaningless, mostly made up ones. Our local park is a joy for that.
My fellow swimmers are continuing to meet, safely. Much safer cold water swimming in company than alone.

My dd is also for ever chewing her hair, it's an improvement from the head banging and knuckle biting we had in lockdown one.
Lovely sunny day here, lots of people down the seafront walking dogs, babies, exercising and meeting up. Lovely to see older people out meeting up too , a few mobility scooters and Zimmer frames about all enjoying a natter, coffee , even ice cream.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/11/2020 16:42

DS was a head banger from 10m. It's not so long since he threw himself at walls when he was melting down.
He was a clever baby though, it didn't take him long to work out that on carpet, you could go full welly, wood, bang with care, and tiles, dramatically throw your head towards the ground... pause an inch from the surface and tap the last inch with the right force. Grin

It's so good that I don't have a marker pen in the car or the outdoor courts closure sign would have had Covid Regulations with a strike through and "to encourage childhood obesity" added.

Bought myself a snow globe musical light up one from Aldi, since I was a little girl I have always wanted one so to heck with it. Also bought some lovely felt christmassy baskets which I have put the plants in for a bit of colour. I am slowly sneaking xmas into the house Grin

justasking111 · 12/11/2020 16:54

The poinsettia are in at Aldi, every year I napalm them somehow so last year I went to a proper nurseries and bought one. It lasted for months.

Son emptied the office when he went back to uni. all my pens as well as his own and more importantly the cellotape dispenser. I cannot find any with a dispenser for love nor money. Think this year everyone is much more organised and starting early.

theThreeofWeevils · 12/11/2020 17:16

@justasking111, there are on-wrist tape dispensers in my Tesco Express, if that's any help.

amicissimma · 12/11/2020 17:17

I saw a good example of the law of unintended consequences today.

In nearby small town there's a florist that has a couple of steps right across the front where the flowers are normally displayed. People tend to buy at the door because most of the choice is out front. Now the florist is closed to avoid the danger of maybe as many as 3 people standing well-spaced outside looking at the stock for a few minutes. The steps have now become an informal seating area for the nearby takeaway, with quite a lot of roughly-spaced people sitting on them for about 30 minutes each, masks off as they're eating and drinking. People here are polite, so they budge up to make space if someone needs to sit down. As it's outdoors I seriously doubt Covid would spread in either scenario, but the open-florist one must be safer.

@DominaShantotto

I've got absolutely no motivation, getting out of bed on a morning is a battle - DD2 is the same to be honest (but the kid is 90% sloth).

Should have got so much done this week but I haven't.

I consider it a good day when I've read the paper on the day it's printed. I'm on Tuesday's so far, winning at life.
