Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Im in tears Sad This Christmas ad has been made and proceeds from sales will go to charities working to combat loneliness. More than a match for anything JL put out.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here but we won't see the impact of lockdown on the death figures until at least mid November, probably later (as we were told over and over again when the conga-ing didn't kill us all yet) so by mid November we should see between 2000 and 3000 deaths a day according to the prediction our government locked down on. I want to scream it from the rofftops when that doesn't happen.

I'm feeling a bit cynical about the number of people on other threads who have suddenly decided that we could shield the elderly now that it looks like they might get a vaccine first. It was never about the elderly, was it?

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 06:47

@110APiccadilly yes! Now it’s all about how they should get it first and sod the grannies 😂😂

Bollss · 10/11/2020 06:56

Of course it was never about the elderly. To paraphrase the ds "you never cared about old people before so why now"

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 07:02

@TrustTheGeneGenie yes, quite!

Jourdain11 · 10/11/2020 07:03

I was thinking the other day that the charts of doom have a decided taste of Blair's dodgy dossier. If BJ could learn from recent political history, he'd realise that deceiving the public to pursue a policy don't go down well with the voters. And Starmer that the Opposition supporting it doesn't win public approval either. And, more to the point, rushing through legislation with limited opportunity for informed debate and consideration results in crappy decisions.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 07:06

@TabbyStar

I may have eaten 2 slices of cake in retaliation, & now feel sick.

I've noticed I seem to have some sort of "lockdown diet" mentality, and each time have ended up eating stuff I never normally eat. Part of it is because DD is eating more at home instead of at work, and she's doing a lot of the cooking but she eats more meat and pasta than I would when alone, but also there's something psychological about it being exceptional times and I deserve it and it doesn't "count".

I was doing this really badly.. and it was stuff I never normally eat, like square sausage, and pies!

Ooh, I fancy a pie now! I've never even heard of square sausages, but I've been eating normal sausages, and bacon, which I don't usually eat. I was eating a hot cross bun a day in first lockdown and I didn't used to like them at all. I'm also eating more pastries.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 07:17

Square sausage - think it’s a Scottish thing.
It’s strange isn’t it, how the cravings are for weird stuff you don’t normally eat!

Bollss · 10/11/2020 07:18

I too have been eating like I don't know what. Trying to stop and lose the weight I've put on but it's so hard!

Nope ... just as mask wearing has never been about ‘protecting others’ - it’s all about me, me, me ...

Lockdown’s had the opposite effect on my diet ... I’ve completely lost my appetite and am finding it really hard to eat - I’m presuming stress but the plus side is I’ve lost nearly a stone over the last few months

Please tell me they got called out on it... 😂😂
BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2020 07:23

I have to hold off on mince pies until at least the 1st December, and since going past 35 have ended up shifting the date later each year for damage limitation.
This year will be a challenge.

10 years ago I was very heavily pregnant and snowed in by my inability to walk even without sheet ice everywhere and unable to contort behind a steering wheel anymore, I reckon much of that rapidly gained last stone was mince pies. The baby was only 8lb 10 (admittedly rather unfairly over 2lb bigger than I was!). With legs not working from SPD and hands not working from carpal tunnel, all I could do was eat mince pies and sit playing computer games. The final week, I was too vast to get off the sofa without someone pulling me! Grin

I have ended up on antibiotics for a UTI (thanks, pregnancy) which are making me feel queasy, so at least I'm currently immune from the junk food temptations!

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 07:49

They’re actually now going with the “well, they’re old anyway, 🤷🏻‍♀️; better leave them and vaccinate the forty somethings with health conditions first”.

What a remarkable turnaround!

110APiccadilly · 10/11/2020 08:00

Because obviously we should reduce the risk of a healthy teacher very slightly while leaving old people locked up in care homes. Because after all, it's easy to lock the old people up, and they might die of anything, so let's deny them human contact for another large proportion of their remaining lifespan...

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 08:04

It’s the sheer brass neck of the u turn that’s left me open mouthed.

Looks like we’re not the granny killers after all

BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2020 08:07

What? We're NOT granny killers after all ??? Shock

This is another thing I feel really worried about. I could swear that I would never vote for Boris or conservatives ever again after all their cock ups but then labour would have done it all the same and more. It's trying to decide between the slightly less willing to lock us up disaster capitalists or the party that would jail us forever for our own good. So who can I vote for? We need an AD party!
LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 10/11/2020 09:00

Having a party I can vote for is increasingly a problem across whole range of subject areas.

Lockdown children forget how to use knife and fork

The pandemic has seen most children in England slipping back with their learning - and some have gone significantly back with their social skills, says Ofsted.

...

But Ms Spielman says this did not divide along the lines of advantage and deprivation, but instead factors such as whether parents were able to spend time with children and families having what she described as "good support structures".

I don't think any of that's a surprise - worrying but not a surprise.

110APiccadilly · 10/11/2020 09:03

Do the Lib Dems have a stance on lockdowns? (Clutching at straws as I bet they support them...)

ISaySteadyOn · 10/11/2020 09:35

Quite, starfish. Completely agree.

Could someone remind me of the balance exercises for dyspraxic people mentioned earlier? I gave myself mild shin splints so I can't run this week but I need something to do.
