Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Our council had the toilets shut at the park today.
The toilets in a large, airy outhouse where there were 6 cubicals and 5 taped off for social distancing.

shocking overcrowding!

nice to see New Yorkers happy in the street for the election result.

Can't help thinking though...if they can squash in close to be happy, they can do the same to protest lockdown? Grin

DrDiva · 07/11/2020 19:53

I have completely lost the plot today. So ashamed of myself when I can’t even parent properly. Sad

Still, good news in the US elections.

Hope everyone is surviving ok!

Justgivemewine · 07/11/2020 20:21

@Reedwarbler, that’s terrible about your FIL, and must be so hard for your dh too Sad

I have a friend working in a care home, she was telling me they are dreading the winter wave and some of the things that went on back in April/May. Shocking stuff.

@DrDiva, don’t be too hard on yourself. I think we all have days like that at the moment. You should have seen the meltdown I had over a flat tyre this week. 😩Just glad the kids were all at school and dh is well trained enough to know not to say or do anything except give me a hug.

@BogRollBOGOF, lol at those toilets, would it be too daring to suggest they could double their capacity by opening the ones at each end and still keep SD 😱

Evenstar · 07/11/2020 20:26

We have found a garden open tomorrow for an autumn walk with a maple avenue and lots of acres, they are keeping the cafe open for takeaway as well so planning to have cake 🧁

Evenstar · 07/11/2020 20:27

That should be acers but lots of acres too!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 07/11/2020 20:46

Good lord, @LivinLaVidaLoki that's not light relief, that's terrifying!!

zigaziga · 07/11/2020 22:20

So far this lockdown feels very different.

So many shops in my village are open - butchers, bakeries etc obviously but also stationery shops, hardware shops and then the others are open via a hatch in the door where they’ll let you pick up whatever you’ve ordered. It feels very different.
Greggs had been busy every day and it reminded me of the first time around when Greggs shut (I think legally they never needed to as a food shop) and after about two months they announced plans to start slowly reopening and people went crazy on twitter, accusing them basically of murdering people, and they had to postpone it all. This time around places aren’t shutting unless they have to.
I also saw people with takeaway beer in plastic cups today which I didn’t think you could do now but good for them.

There is a whole ridiculous back and forth about baby and toddler classes that is rather amusing and also ludicrous.

It all just seems so pointless. We know now that it spreads the most in homes when people are socialising but let’s just shut hairdressers and gyms and golf clubs for the sake of it, eh?

Sonicthehedgehogg · 07/11/2020 22:36

Radio 4 - The Moral Maze are doing "the morality of mortality". Only caught it half way through but worth a listen on catch up

DominaShantotto · 07/11/2020 23:22

Checked in on mum today via video. Hell of a black eye and some broken and hideously expensive glasses (she has a mega complex prescription so we’re talking about £700 when she picks nice frames).

Persuaded her to go to GP and optician to get the obvious potential causes looked into as she’s fallen a couple of times - but from what she said I think this was more of a faint from lack of physical stamina as Covid hit just after she had a knee replacement so she wasn’t out and about like she usually was.

AcornAutumn · 08/11/2020 00:02

Domina hope she feels better ASAP. Definitely get to the doc.

What’s the situation for her for care?

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 00:06

Having joined a thread discussing Tescos decision i had some bloke attack me verballly after looking at my fb bio (because i disagreed with this decision) an attack that involved misogyny and classism right after he had stated this decision was all about levelling the playing field. Yeah mate you are all about the equality and fairness. So there you have it Equality only matters when it involves Covid and a good few pro lockdowners arent bothered about poorer people catching it They are only bothered about them spreading it.

Found this definition of communism

Communism involves creating an 'equal society' through an authoritarian state, which denies basic liberties. ... Communism is a political and economic ideology – closely associated with the state Communism of the Soviet Union and China

MercyBooth · 08/11/2020 00:36

Sorry to hear that Domina

TabbyStar · 08/11/2020 08:26

You can get alcohol if ordered by phone / text / carrier pigeon etc., so I guess that just means standing outside the pub and calling them!

DominaShantotto · 08/11/2020 08:31

She is completely independent - just her mobility that’s become an issue over the course of Covid. She’s not a delicate frail lady - tough as anything and pin sharp mind - we breed strong stubborn women in our family.

She’s starting to allow things like grab rails in the house now - but this latest fall seems to have been purely as a result of lost physical condition as a result of Covid - and cancelled medical follow ups for things like physio.

See I go past police in Tesco’s without a mask on a lot (I have one of those awful lanyards) and I only ever get a nod (I assume a smile under the mask) and a “morning”

Likewise the army, and the store staff - the only aggro and abuse I get is from shitty men looking for the chance to put a woman down and, I have to say, women of the mn demographic

DrDiva · 08/11/2020 08:44

@Reedwarbler and @DominaShantotto Flowers for you and your respective parents.

Re alcohol - if Majestic is allowed to open as an essential retailer, then what is the rationale for not allowing pubs to do takeaway? Does BoJo’s mate own Majestic?

AcornAutumn · 08/11/2020 09:15

Domina “She’s starting to allow things like grab rails in the house now - but this latest fall seems to have been purely as a result of lost physical condition as a result of Covid - and cancelled medical follow ups for things like physio.”

Yes, I completely understand that. My mother spent half of my visit saying how upset she is at second lockdown and how she can’t believe it. Does your mum see anyone?

It’s worth getting blood tests, iron has helped my mum a lot.
