Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Yoga is good and also dance because you're coordinating in different dimensions. I've also done Feldenkrais, which is all about getting the mobility back into your body so that you're moving "correctly"

Not heard of Feldenkrais before - did a quick google sounds interesting.

I'm looking around at things at the minute party for me but also as DD1 complaining about knee and hip pain and her weight when she stands and walks seems wrong her foot is turned slightly over - ideally I'd get her seen at GP but that's not possible currently but at 15 she's reluctant to do any excerises I've suggested so stuck trying some joint suppliments currently.

Just today? 🤣

If you eat something along with antidepressants it can help with nausea- having them on an empty stomach can make it worse.

A good Feldenkrais practitioner would be perfect for your DD. It was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, an Israelí physicist in response to his own injury, and it works on the basis of gentle movements that reprogramme your neural pathways. If you're interested I can DM you some YouTube videos I'd recommend when I'm back at my computer.

Has she grown a lot recently? We had this with dd in her early/mid teens - a combination of rapid growth and mild hyper mobility - what sorted it was custom-made orthotic inserts in her shoes along with (sporadic) physio exercises. She rides every day and does huge amounts by of walking when she’s at work (Saturdays and holidays) and hasn’t had any further problems since she stopped growing.

The inserts were fine for her as she has zero interest in fashion but basically meant she could only wear trainers for about 18 months - if your dd is fashion-conscious they might be a harder sell.

I'm a massive Pilates fan for balance and so on - it's helped me (mostly) recover from a pretty bad slipped disc episode.

Worse than average. There was a pile-on on a poor step mum who had the audacity to do her Christmas shopping already and now stepchild has finally come up with a list of other stuff.

I pointed out that I am eagerly awaiting the threads scorning people having shopping issues in December for having left it to the last minute in a global pandemic and that a badly timed maximim self-isolation would leave you with about 3 shopping days left to hit the English High St!

Not that I want people to face those issues, just that it's the sanctimonious arseholes that will probably argue it both ways.

@TrustTheGeneGenie

on a mask thread where school has asked parents to wear masks even though v rural barely any parents there, doesnt get within 10m of a teacher

nearly all responses are JUST WEAR A FUCKING MASK DONT BE SELFISH etc

i just helpfully commented that if school had asked op to only walk backwards and spin 3 times because it warned off covid that these posters would probably be saying JUST DO THE SPINS DONT BE SELFISH Grin

the thing is - i bet they would.

I've just seen that thread. Christ it's nutty.
DominaShantotto · 06/11/2020 17:17

Glasses wearing GP passed onto me - after going to the optician and wondering how the hell his glasses weren't steaming up in a mask that you can get anti fog spray or anti fog cloths that really do work apparently.

I've had the news channel on last few days watching the US election and there's a reporter stuck in Liverpool who is using one of these clear masks that the NHS are pushing for professions where you need to see mouths - like speech and language therapists... and the sound quality of his voice through it is awful.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 06/11/2020 17:18

Pleasedontdotha - interesting - she not actually grown much lately an inch over summer - other two have massivcely so it's possible it's slightly more but been less visible but she was near my height any way and it a hair breath under now. I have wondered about mild hyper mobility.

DH thinks its lack of excerise- we used to walk a lot before lockdown I've suggested yoga, Pilates - I've also suggest tai chi as I enjoyed that at univeristy and sent her NHS excerses with accompanying videos.

It might be easier when evening classes start back up here or if she goes to college next September- as I think there's some groups there.

TabbyStar If you're interested I can DM you some YouTube videos I'd recommend when I'm back at my computer.

I'd be very greatful if you could do that - thank you.

Even if I can't get DD1 interested yet it sounds like it could help me - and possibly DS who I really do think has inherited my dsypraxia and gone through a huge growth spurt and who I'm keeping an eye on.

loulouljh · 06/11/2020 17:21

I have been lurking for some time. I have just got myself into a rage on the mask thread re wearing them outside to pick up kids. The poor OP has come in for a right pasting. The people on the thread are so lacking any critical thinking I cannot bear it. Yes it is complete and utter nuts. I must keep myself away because some people simply cannot be educated or think for themselves....

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2020 17:33

Hello @loulouljh!

These threads are a little oasis of sanity

Bollss · 06/11/2020 17:47

If I see another "just wear the fucking mask" I'll scream. Seriously if these people all just fucked off to their own little mask wearing rule following neighbour hating Nazi little island life would be so much better.

Good evening.
@SirSamuelVimes
Hope the medication side-effects settle.

Re glasses & masks. I had a mask & glasses on the desk today. Needed to read something on the computer. Couldn't work out why it was blurred. I had, out of habit, put on a mask instead of the glasses. Luckily, it was over my mouth & nose, not my eyes.
Confused

MercyBooth · 06/11/2020 18:33

And I can't see a bloody thing below my eyeline, packing shopping and finding my purse in my bag is a fucking nightmare

I had this yesterday when i was finishing up in Tesco. I was wearing my winter coat and using the end till right under the door heater as well. So not only did i have to struggle i had to do it with both the mask Tescos heater, and my coat making me hot and feel faint.

I had to walk away from the till for a couple of mins while they scanned my shop. So got weird looks. So i told them it was unbearable standing under that heater with a mask on ,

Suppose i could leave my winter coat at home and wear my denim jacket instead but i dont drive so then means im cold while walking into town or waiting for a bus.

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 18:40

@cassgate, I thought it was just me too. I don’t understand the just wear the mask crew. If I don’t want to do something pointless, I’m in the wrong. It’s like the no care home visits through a window, can’t do anymore because is a risk.
I’m surprised people aren’t worried that they can catch from their next door neighbour. Maybe it travels through brick wall.
I’m on Nytol because I can’t sleep.

TheOrchidKiller · 06/11/2020 18:41

@MercyBooth
I'm the same with getting hot (it's me age).
Have taken to leaving the cardigan at home & just wearing the coat. Never thought I would get to the stage in life where removing a layer would be required. If global warming gets worse I may need to leave the vest off as well.

My face can get hot in a mask. Then the runny nose starts. Do you take the mask off to blow the nose, or wipe with the mask? Modern dilemmas.

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 18:43

@SirSamuelVimes, hope you start feeling better soon.Flowers would offer wine, but not sure it you are allowed to drink on the tablets you are on.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 06/11/2020 18:44

If we're going to have to tolerate masks, I think clear ones are they way to go somehow. Does anyone else find masked faces disconcerting? I've never liked not being able to see faces and I think it's something to do with being unable to gauge someone's reactions. That's not it though, my mum has this figurine thing of a stylised person with no facial features and I hate it.

On a more cheerful note, we had a very small fire in the garden last night and toasted marshmallows. I stayed out by the fire as it burned down to embers and it was so peaceful and lovely.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 06/11/2020 18:52

Sorry, unrelated but argh!!!! Can buggering fireworks stop now? It's the 6th!!
(Yes I know I'm being boring and people need their light relief, but DD is totally freaked by them and I hate hearing her whimper like a scared puppy Sad)

HitchikersGuide · 06/11/2020 18:54

😂
But actually I think there are quite a few sensible people out there. Perhaps I've just got v low standards but honestly I've found it quite cheering that there are a number of people not on this thread who are fighting the good fight.
