Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

Popped into tesco today, they were busy counting everyone in and out again and had the barriers up ready. I presume they are going to say back to 2m distance, meaning they have to limit the numbers in the shop at one time to allow enough space.

Guess its back to online shopping.

zigaziga · 02/11/2020 19:09

Tbf I do feel bad buying on Amazon and I had a few things I wanted to buy over the coming month that I knew I could buy locally... so I went shopping this weekend (queues for the bookshop all weekend long I am pleased to report!). I felt like it was my sort of moral obligation to spend the money I had planned to... God knows how those shops will survive ... but then I know to half the population I did a bad thing by going out and trying to keep some people in a job.

I will also be telling myself of course that it is my duty to get takeaways throughout Lockdown 2.0 for the same reason.

I've seen threads on the 'rona board about children who are self-isolating because there's a case at school, & their mum's posted that she's confined the poor kid to their room for 2 weeks but sits outside the door to keep them company.
Is this a joke? Fucking hell, that’s one of the worst things I’ve read.

Bollss · 02/11/2020 19:12

To the resilience thing I add my personal most rage-inducing comment, “god does not send you anything you can’t cope with.” angry
I. Can’t. Even.

This makes no sense to me. God obviously thinks we can all cope with lockdown but does god get it wrong when he things people can cope with Corona and actually they can't and die? Or is god only in charge of government and not viruses? Or is god happy for people to die?

I'm not religious at all and I'm really sorry if anyone is and they're angry with me for my ignorance but I've just never understood it. Just makes me think god isn't a right nice fella.

I dunno, it has some strong competition from all children over 3 should wear a mask Confused

AcornAutumn · 02/11/2020 19:35

@TheOrchidKiller

And I don't get all the fretting about having to queue outside shops again that I've heard people talk about. I mean, I understand not wanting to queue, but don't see why we need to. We've not queued for months, why the need to instigate it again just because of lockdown?

Or have more people suddenly descended on the planet, all suddenly needing to go to Tesco at the same time?

I gather more people have snapped up online slots so in theory the supermarkets should be lovely & quiet...

I think a lot of shops increased the number allowed in store after the first lockdown. This will revert to first lockdown levels, hence, queuing.

I’m going later, lord knows what I’ll see!

Oh good news - I got home from work to find the new boiler was fitted and I have a toasty warm home! My dementor colleague was very clearly disapproving of my reckless decision to have tradesmen in the house, having the roof done was fine as they were outside. She hadn't realised I was having people inside the house. Am I not worried about spreading the virus?

I said I was more worried about having a dodgy boiler this winter...

Ours have traffic lights up - I need to go in tomorrow as a matter of serious importance and I'm dreading it.

I've run out of herbal tea (I'm trying to go less caffeine) biscuits and chocolate.

I had to cancel our builder coming to quote due to my isolation. Shame really.... I'd LOVE a tradesman in the house. It's something about those trousers with the knee protection Blush

As far as I'm concerned the idea of a 'god' is similar to the current idea of the magic masks. We don't understand so we'll make up a narrative that suits us (those in charge) and enables us make rules that no one dare disobey.

I was brought up catholic and the narrative was that God gave us free will so doesn't 'send' us anything. He is available for comfort and 'resilience' if we believe in him, thus making us stronger to cope with any crap life throws at us.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2020 20:10

I go later in an evening when it's quiet. I can't see many switching their habits to go on a manky winter's night.

Queuing was worse early on because hours were drastically shortened to refill the shelves!

I did hear that Costco was mad earlier. Why??? It's going to stay open and remained open all the way through last time Confused

Curlygirl06 · 02/11/2020 20:30

When I went to my shop in Saturday there was a queue, first for a long time and I know we've not reduced the numbers. I went down today, got straight in but the loo rolls were very sparse again.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/11/2020 20:43

We're hopefully getting a new boiler fitted soon as ours is getting temperamental. The plumber came round last week and -gasp- didn't wear a mask! (It was on the same day that a poster was furious at her husband for allowing a tradesman in the house without a mask)

Sonicthehedgehogg · 02/11/2020 20:46

TROUSERS @PinkSparklyPussyCat never mind the mask, did he wear the sexy trousers???

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2020 20:46

We're still having roofing issues...
It's turned into quite a saga.
Sigh.

[quote DrDiva]@DesireAs so sorry about your dad. How lovely of the restaurant though.
And @Weneedmusicandtheatre solidarity from a fellow musician. (I think you might have answered the question I ask all singers of opera - if you could only have Verdi or Puccini for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

To the resilience thing I add my personal most rage-inducing comment, “god does not send you anything you can’t cope with.” Angry

Oh that is a difficult question as Puccini was the first ‘big’ opera role I had after an early career of Handel and Mozart but singing Alice in Falstaff changed how I viewed my body and my voice for ever.

TROUSERS *@PinkSparklyPussyCat* never mind the mask, did he wear the sexy trousers???
I can't remember his trousers! I'll have a look and report back when he installs the boiler!
TheOrchidKiller · 02/11/2020 20:54

"Is this a joke? Fucking hell, that’s one of the worst things I’ve read."
I've seen it a few times. Or someone's said they would do it if their DC had to isolate. But it's ok, they'd keep the bedroom door open so siblings could talk through the door.
Reminds me of threads about kids being ill where posters say things like, "if you're off school & ill you stay in bed, no screens." Being ill isn't a punishment. They have TV in hospitals!

Might need to go back to shopping at 5pm if things go silly then. Discovered that was a good, queue-free time to go, but I went back to going at a sensible time recently because I didn't fancy shopping in the dark. I used to go at that time when DS was very small- it was my escape, & DH got to deal with the colic.

Grin
This is sounding increasingly like one of them "exotic" films.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/11/2020 20:57

I still snigger away to myself about the poster during the last lockdown who said if someone has to isolate the door of the room should be taped shut and a hepa filter used to suck out the air. One of the most batshit things I've read on MN.

I was also told that if I cared for my DH I'd wear a mask in the house to prevent him being infected.

Theredjellybean · 02/11/2020 21:19

I am supposed to have two new bsthr fitted starting 9th November... They are still coming... Counts as construction and Boris said that's OK.. I'll keep a daily update of trousers and knee things going for our enjoyment

110APiccadilly · 02/11/2020 21:46

"I was also told that if I cared for my DH I'd wear a mask in the house to prevent him being infected."

Presumably that poster had been taking heed of the oh so practical advice from the Terrance Higgins Trust?

MissEWeatherwax · 02/11/2020 21:57

It’s rained all day here, I’m not going back to queuing. I will do without. Online is already rubbish earliest I can get Ocado shop is two weeks!
We have lots of shower gel and soap and toothpaste because my DD did two Boots/ Superdrug online shops and we needed to order enough for free delivery/click and collect.
I might be meeting a friend for a walk in the park later this week. Good job I like her because it’s going to be cold.

AcornAutumn · 02/11/2020 22:00

Back from Aldi

Only eggs available were blue, not had those before

Now have a spiced plum and clementine gin and tonic in a can - but had to add more gin.

Didn’t drink before lockdown, only on special occasions

justasking111 · 02/11/2020 22:06

Well I have shared this elsewhere, it makes me laugh.
