Does your washing machine go on on a weekly basis??
I'm a single mum to a two year old and it's been on 6 times this week already!
Dread to think how many times it'd be on if I had a husband too!

Those who are in double figures (health reasons and things like having to wash work uniforms not withstanding) is everything you are washing genuinely dirty or do you just put things in the wash after wearing for a short time regardless?

I wash when things when they are dirty, which for most stuff is after every wear (sweaty sports kits, school uniform etc).

DowntownFrown · 19/10/2020 20:24

@RedskyAtnight My reason for washing so much is sort of health related because I have very irritable skin and find that if I don’t change my towel/wash cloth after one use I can and do breakout. Same for bedding, that has to go in every week. Everyone else uses their towels a couple of times though, I think I’ve just got into this cycle with my clothes that I do the same for everyone else’s.

Girlyracer · 19/10/2020 20:26

2 x bedding
1 whites
1 pastels
1 bright colours
1 towels
2 x blacks (includes sports kit)

Girlyracer · 19/10/2020 20:26

Sorry forgot to say we are 2 adults and 1 child

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/10/2020 20:27

3.. I live alone

Juanbablo · 19/10/2020 20:44

It's absolute madness but we have football and gym kit to wash, 3 x school uniforms and PE kits and my work uniform that needs to be washed every day. Blankets and dog bedding take up a lot of washes.

lynsey91 · 19/10/2020 20:50

Just me and DH. Normally 4 washes a week - bedding, towels, dark wash, light wash.

About once a month I wash the dog duvets and covers

Pyewhacket · 19/10/2020 20:55

Once a day , seven days a week. Same with the tumble dryer. Costs a fortune.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 19/10/2020 21:04

I usually do about a wash a day on average, during a week I’d guess I do about 2-3 hot washes, 2-3 clothes washes, and a white wash on a Saturday morning with all the school shirts in.

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 21:07

@uncomfortablydumb53 your electricity bill must be nice :)

Family of four. 10 or 11. And we have a big machine as well. Two loads for bedding. 2-3 loads for towels (we go swimming). Then there is school uniform, PE kits, football training kit, football match kit, cubs uniform, husband's running/exercise clothes, dog towels and blankets. It is a never ending cycle of laundry!

MerryGoRoundBrain · 19/10/2020 21:16

2 adults and a 7yo:
1x bedding
1x towels
1x whites
2-3x dark colours (this includes DS’s football kit and our gym kits. I refuse to wash them separately)
1x mixed colours

We have a large washing machine, I try not to wash stuff just for the sake of it but I really can’t see how I could reduce the number of washes. Between the school uniform, activities, DP’s work gear, it just seems impossible.

MissClementine · 19/10/2020 21:17

Family of 4 and I would say on average 2 loads per day.

cushioncovers · 19/10/2020 21:20

3 adults here but a small 5 kg drum so machine is on once a day.

Crunchymum · 19/10/2020 21:28

I find that now I'm WFH and the kids change uniform everyday there are a few extra washes.

I'd say
x4 general washes per week
x2 white wash
x1 towels
x2 bedding (our bedding doesn't all fit in one load)

Crunchymum · 19/10/2020 21:29

We are 2 adults, 2 primary aged kids and a toddler at nursery.

timeforanewstart · 19/10/2020 21:29

At least once a day midweek and 2/3 times on sat & sun
Ds do sports so add up plus clean clothes daily and them alwAys seems to be couple beds need doing plus the towels , then dogs beds its never ending

Giganticshark · 19/10/2020 21:36

WTFUCK
we are a family of 4 and have our washer on several times a day, every fucking day!
Its NEVER ENDING

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 19/10/2020 21:48

Me and DS here:
1-2 dark washes
1 light wash
1 towel wash
Per week.
I have a 8kg washing machine so this helps

Anotherducker · 19/10/2020 22:15

There’s a thread like this nearly every month, but I still read it. The daily towel washers will get told off for their lack of environmental concern and the 2 washes a week brigade will be told they smell.

For your interest I have done 4 loads today. I normally do 1-2 a day. I’d guess 8-12 a week depending on bedding and the dog’s huge blanket.

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 22:46

@Anotherducker lol I'm the same, many threads the same context but different titles but I can't help but read and comment
