Does your washing machine go on on a weekly basis??
I'm a single mum to a two year old and it's been on 6 times this week already!
Dread to think how many times it'd be on if I had a husband too!

Yep.
monkeyonthetable · 19/10/2020 16:33

At least once a day.
Weekly:
towel wash
bedding wash
delicates/wool wash
dark wash x2-4
white wash x1-2
light colours wash x1-2

So between 7-12 times a week.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/10/2020 16:33

I'm don't go overboard wrt laundry so I don't put most clothes to wash after a single wear or change the beds weekly or wash towels after each use etc but we still end up doing a load of washing every 1 or 2 days. We don't have a dryer so can't do any more than that or else there wouldn't be enough airer space for it all. Our basket is very rarely empty. We're a family of 4.

ChalkDinosaur · 19/10/2020 16:35

4 usually (but it's a 9kg machine). 2 adults and a 2 yo.

InDubiousBattle · 19/10/2020 16:35

8-10 loads a week. That's for two adults and two primary age dc who can't seem to keep a uniform in any way fit to wear two days running!

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 16:36

I'm also guilty of mixing colours... I don't have white towels in my house or many white items.. All my bedding is grey and my little ones bedding is pink. But if it's a white top or clothing I do just put it in with the rest.. Otherwise it'll be weeks till I've enough for a white wash! Colour catchers all the way :)

2 adults, one toddler and I run it 3/4 times a week. One load for husbands uniform, one load for dds clothes and one load for mine/dh everyday clothes. A fourth wash will be run for bedding, towels etc depending what needs doing that week.

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 16:43

@DDIJ oh wow hand-wash.. I can honestly say I've probably have washed five things in my entire life. I remember my mum used to do that in the bath :)

frustrationcentral · 19/10/2020 16:46

Probably 10 times a week!

4 people - 2 adults and two teenage sons . DS1 plays rugby 2/3 times a week, DS2 is at secondary and annoyingly hasn't got enough uniform to last the week - will be changing that soon!

I'd like to get down to a max of once a day..

Franticbutterfly · 19/10/2020 16:48

Yesterday 4 times. It's a lot! We are a family of 5.

Poppyismyfavourite · 19/10/2020 16:49

Wow this is a lot!
We are just DH and I and I do 2/3 washes each week. Don't separate whites as we don't have much white stuff, but do lights/darks.

HyggeTygge · 19/10/2020 16:52

Genuinely don't understand how people wash so much!
Family of 4 with 2 smallish kids. Every other day would be a sort of average or slightly more than average.

Usually mix white in with everything else unless there's enough to do a separate wash.

Probably wash bedding and towels every week (together) or two weeks, that can take ages as I can't dry more than one large set at a time.

Hardly have anything that needs a handwash (on the machine) or a cold wash - if so they usually get saved up til it's worth it. If I worked FT I expect I might have more of my own clothes to do though.

Happy for DCs to get changed into joggers that have the odd food stain on after school, no-one's going to see them, so they usually get changed into the same one or two outfits in a week unless they're doing anything special!

I'd rather be thought of as a bit slovenly than waste so much energy on keeping kids' clothes spotless...

BorderlineHappy · 19/10/2020 16:53

Probably about 3 or times a day, most days. But its a new machine with a smaller drum.

3 kids and 3 adults here.I dont have a set wash,i just wash what needs washing.

jessstan1 · 19/10/2020 16:55

Mine used to be on most days, sometimes twice. Now I'm on my own, less often.

CuppaZa · 19/10/2020 16:56

Family of 4. I think roughly 10, give or take

princesspeppax · 19/10/2020 16:57

One wash a day, 6 days a week. Family of 5 with 2 pets

beansonbread · 19/10/2020 17:01

2 adults and a toddler here and we do at least one wash a day. In the warmer months when it could be dried outside, I'd do 2 sometimes 3 loads. I tend to wash towels and bedding much more frequently when I know I can get them straight on the line.

Deadringer · 19/10/2020 17:02

About 4 a week i would say, 6 absolute tops. We are a family of 6, 5 adults and 1 pre- teen. My dds tend to live in their pjs and dressing gowns though, when not at school/work.

Elsiebear90 · 19/10/2020 17:04

I can’t believe the amount of washing some people do, we have a 10kg washer, I would say I use it 2-3 times a week max.

flapjackfairy · 19/10/2020 17:09

I have 2 kids with complex needs and there are 6 of us in total. I have lots of wet beds etc and my machine is barely ever off
I have a large load machine and do about 3 to 4 loads a day. It is the bane of my life .
I envy people with large laundry rooms and would love 2 washers and 2 dryers to make it easier .
