Does your washing machine go on on a weekly basis??
I'm a single mum to a two year old and it's been on 6 times this week already!
Dread to think how many times it'd be on if I had a husband too!

@flapjackfairy that must be tough x I won't complain about the amount I have to do in comparison to you.. But a utility room would be fabulous.

I do about 3/4 loads a day! 4 adults in the house .it just never stops.I have a utility room though.Thank god

LER83 · 19/10/2020 17:32

Family of 5, 1x colours 1x whites, 1x dark, 2x bedding, 2x towels, then usually ad hoc bits like gym wear etc. Have a 10kg machine and tumble dryer.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/10/2020 17:32

On average 5 times a week. That includes bedding/towels.
3 of us.

MichaelGovesLittleWilly · 19/10/2020 17:34

I have four children and a dog and my washing machine is never off 🤣 the amount of uniforms, bedding, towels and clothes etc that need washing each day is ridiculous. I need to do at least one load a day, but more often than not i do two a day.

Avery7 · 19/10/2020 17:35

I think the key is a larger machine I wouldn't have less than 10kg

Exactly this. I only do each type of laundry about every 3 weeks, so that works out as once or twice a week. 2 adults, 2 babies.

londonscalling · 19/10/2020 17:38

About three times a day on average. There are seven of us. Also two dogs (we have to wash their wet towels this time of year).

londonscalling · 19/10/2020 17:42

... and I also have a lot of bed changing due to health issues!

I am a bit OCD with clothes washing. It's my thing!!

The tumble dryer is also on three times a day. My electricity bill is substantial!

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 19:33

I'd be bankrupt if I had a tumble dryer 😂

7kg machine family of four two primary age children two adults and a dog

Weekly I do
Bedding wash x2 (kids bedding goes in together)
Dog bedding
Husbands clothes once a week
My clothes once a week
Kids clothes go in together once a week
School uniform wash
Towel wash

KenzoBaby · 19/10/2020 19:48

I'm just me myself and every week I do:
1 x whites
1 x darks
1 x colours

then as required, separate washes, perhaps every fortnight for each of:

  • towels
  • bedding
  • bras
  • cashmere
DramaAlpaca · 19/10/2020 19:50

There's now just three of us at home, all adults. I reckon we do around six loads per week these days. It was lots more when my three DC were small.

RedskyAtnight · 19/10/2020 19:55

Realise now why washing is so often claimed to be practically a full time job on some MN threads!

2 adult and 2 teens here - we average 6 loads a week.

Those who are in double figures (health reasons and things like having to wash work uniforms not withstanding) is everything you are washing genuinely dirty or do you just put things in the wash after wearing for a short time regardless?

AdoraBell · 19/10/2020 19:56

Now that teens have moved out for Uni only 3/4 times, except this week. We’re decorating.

Juanbablo · 19/10/2020 19:57

14 to 20 times a week. 2 adults, 3 children, a dog and a cat. Mostly do 2 washes a day, sometimes more if bedding or towels need to be washed.

AbsolutWitch · 19/10/2020 20:02

About 5 or 6 times. Family of 4, 2 adults, 16 yo and toddler. Bedding does not get done every week especially if it's not good drying weather.

HazeyJaneII · 19/10/2020 20:03

10ish a week.
2 adults 3 kids.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 19/10/2020 20:03

9 or 10. We are two adults and 3 small and v messy kids

NoMoreMrNiceGaius · 19/10/2020 20:08

2 adults no kids, 4-5 times a week

Chocolatehobnob9 · 19/10/2020 20:11

@Juanbablo 20 times a week!!!

KittCat · 19/10/2020 20:15

At least daily...the other day I did 5 washes for all the fleece throws on the sofas.

tywysoges · 19/10/2020 20:17

3-5 a week. Depends on the balance of white vs colours. Sometimes I wash towels and bedding together. I save kitchen cloths until I have a full load and do it every few weeks. 9kg machine, 2 adults and 1 DC.

firesong · 19/10/2020 20:18

Usually, it's just me and two children (9 and 3) and I probably have it on every other day.

Since COVID my boyfriend has stayed and it's more like 5/6 times a week. His stuff is just bigger. He will be back to work soon and his own place so I guess the washing machine will get a rest.

firesong · 19/10/2020 20:20

I don't wash my stuff until it's had a couple of wears, but younger child gets so messy that all of his go in after half a day's wear

dudsville · 19/10/2020 20:22

Two of us here. About 6 loads.
