I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Went to M&S and bought stollen pieces this afternoon. Despite Welsh lockdown they are still selling flowers, got some lilies v reduced. .

My ghost-shaped cutters arrived today, so DS can make Halloween biscuits. Hopefully the bat and pumpkin ones will come tomorrow. We’ve even bought roll-out icing to make them really fancy/totally inedible.

HelloDulling · 27/10/2020 17:54

@MissConductUS

I have a really terrible sense of direction. Embarrassing bad actually. So for me GPS units/sat navs have really been life changing technology. My new car has a touch screen built into the dashboard, so I plug my iPhone into the car then can do Google Maps on the touch screen.

Now my teenagers never have to tell me that I've made a wrong turn and I'm no longer terrified of taking them to uni. Smile

The new shower door went in without incident. It turned out that the glass guy had never been to Corning glass works (where fiber optic cable was invented, among other things) and did not know about the fabulous Corning Museum of Glass. I strongly recomment it to anyone visiting New York. It's about two hours from where I live and the whole family has been several times.

Picture of shower door please, when you are feeling up to it!

We had a scoot/brisk walk in the pouring rain round town. Resulting in a super late lunch, DC tea is now a very relaxed affair organised by the 11yr old. I’m about to psych myself up to clean the bathrooms.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/10/2020 18:34

I survived Ikea but it was horrendous beyond my wildest dreams. I did however buy a tin of those gingery thin biscuits so all was not lost.

DH is upright but doing the tottery walk so I suspect is still gravely afflicted - I have not asked as I refuse to indulge in his hypochondria.

DDog3 is warm again now her the logs have arrived.

EggyPegg · 27/10/2020 18:42

@Champagneforeveryone Will DH resort to doing The Sigh soon if you don't ask how he is?

There's really no need to ask if he's doing the ambulation of acute infirmity is there?
Grin.

I will post a picture of the new shower door shortly.

DH is quite the master of sighing, even in happy and relaxed situations where his health is not in immediate peril. Therefore The Sigh would have little effect on me.

He has actually gone to bed again, leading me to assume that this has crept beyond Extremely Unwell, possibly heading towards Exceptionally unwell. As DS has just gone to work I shall watch Bake Off with DDog3, while I contemplate the path my life may well take in the near future.

MissConductUS · 27/10/2020 20:33

Here are three pictures of the new shower door, in all of its pristine glory.

Going to the Corning Museum of Glass website reminded me that Corning is also playing a key role in fighting covid-19. They've developed a new type of pharmaceutical glass that is exceptionally strong, using the same ion exchange technology as their Gorilla Glass, called Valor Glass. It will be used to hold covid vaccines and they have a new plant that is already turning out millions of vials.

The stronger glass is important because with current pharma-grade glass lots of the vials break while being filled or in packaging or transport, wasting precious vaccine doses. This is Yankee ingenuity at its best. Grin

Miss
This is extremely exciting and your shower door looks beautiful and I like the little wall cubicles (word?).

I have made 23 (the 24th muffin form vanished while I had my back turned) basic muffins for DS who dos not like surprises.

soddingkitten · 27/10/2020 21:16

DH is one of those annoying (but useful) people who tidies as he goes. It drives me mad when I am putting stuff out on the kitchen worktop to start a recipe and he is putting it all back in the cupboards or dishwasher while my back is turned. I’ve just come back from cleaning out Sodding’s litter tray and he’s taken my half drunk tea to the kitchen and poured it away. Hmm I was annoyed, but I just made a fresh pot of Twining’s Regal blend (vanilla black tea with red, white & blue petals in it).

HelloDulling · 27/10/2020 21:27

Love it, @MissConductUS! The bathroom time forgot is still v much in progress.

FawnDrench · 27/10/2020 21:44

Watched Bake off and found it thoroughly underwhelming this week.

DH has had a shower.

I've turned the heating back on after DH turned it off as I was feeling a tad cool, but not glacial or anything like that.

Frownette · 27/10/2020 22:13

@MissConductUS oh I thought you were getting all anglesised (sp?) for a second and saying ''ere is our new shower..."

I hate to bang on about face masks but I got dragged out by a relative earlier and I was shivering and it was drizzling then they suddenly did a right turn into a supermarket without forewarning and I automatically followed then backed out hastily when I realised I wasn't wearing one.

The manager was shouting something at me (we know each other) but I doubt it was about that, I couldn't concentrate long enough to focus on what he was yapping about. I just backed out quickly.

sueelleker · 28/10/2020 08:21

@Frownette;it's"anglicised"

TenCornMaidens · 28/10/2020 08:23

I have to go school shoe shopping with my tee daughter today. She has recently discovered fashion so this may be protracted.

Did the quick cryptic crossword with my husband this morning. This is a new to me and I am enjoying it.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/10/2020 08:52

The patient was up and ready for work this morning but (fortunately) was dithering so much he noticed the water coming through the kitchen ceiling.

Tank now fixed but the sighing has ramped up and he feels "ghastly" again. I suspect a retreat to the bed chamber may be imminent.

In other news, DCat was fascinated to discover the airing cupboard and DDog1 has helped with the recycling by chewing an Amazon box up.

HelenaJustina · 28/10/2020 09:07

Dragging DC out for fresh air again this morning while it is still dry(ish). My morning run was neither brisk nor exciting.

Frownette · 28/10/2020 09:10
@Frownette;it's"anglicised"
Thank you! I wasn't quite sure if I'd inadvertently referenced religion

EggyPegg · 28/10/2020 09:39

Earlier both my washing machine and dishwasher showed identical cycle times remaining. This was pleasing to me.

DC are watching gaming guff on Kids YouTube in the living room, I have tea and my OU studies (and two assignments due in 17 days) in the playroom.

soddingkitten · 28/10/2020 11:06

Sodding had his first bowel movement since last Wednesday. Never has a stinky cat poo been greeted with such excitement. I think that only qualifies as exciting news in this household. For the rest of you cat takes a dump is dull, dull, dull.

The battery in our electric scales has died. I had to show DS1 how to use the brass balance scales & convert a metric recipe to imperial.

MissConductUS · 28/10/2020 11:10

@Frownette At first I didn't know what you were talking about with me saying "ere is...", then I looked at my post on my iPhone, where the picture cuts off the H in Here. I was so confused, but happy to be anglicised, especially since I have been a faithful Anglican for many years. Smile

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Those inset spaces are indeed one of the nicest parts of the new shower. The remodeling contractor we used (a woman, by the way) called them "shampoo niches". They added a bit to the cost but they are so worth it. I took the first shower this morning with the new door. It lets in a lot of light and looks fabulous.

@HelloDulling You do have a way to go. Your rectangular wall tiles are the same as we used in the shower. They're called subway tiles here because the same ones are used throughout the NYC subway system.

@Champagneforeveryone If your patient doesn't improve tell him he needs to go on IV fluids with an antibiotic drip because you fear it's atypical pneumonia.

@EggyPegg Your laundry equipment looks smart. I have a Miele washer (very rare in the US) and it's my pride and joy.

It's a cold rainy day here and I'm sick of hearing about the election. Off to work soon.

I am a bit like SoddingDH, but only because I get distracted and end up clearing away people’s half-finished cups because I’ve lost track of how long they’ve been there. Blush

Pretty sure we were promised a nice day today. It’s bloody not.

KoalasandRabbits · 28/10/2020 12:32

Just had memorandum of sale through and ours buyers are using Premier Property Lawyers who appear to be anything but premier.

Now just deciding what to have for lunch.

dolphinpose · 28/10/2020 12:34

I've just caught DCat licking the lid of the marmite jar.

KoalasandRabbits · 28/10/2020 12:38

DH brought me two scotch pancakes and a cup of tea in bed this morning. I was very happy but the cat was really cross with him and howled very loudly, she had food, water and cuddles already from him but how dare him pay attention to another female. Angry
