Seems to have shut up shop as from this morning.

@WolffromTheWest

Yet even in this thread it feels as though the Ron is nasty, snippy, impatient and just not a pleasant vibe. And that is the feeling I get across a lot of mumsnet.

Agree.

It’s a bit strange that a lot of the posters there only dared to read here but could be pretty bolshie there. People are strange. Some there wanted to be super sweet to everyone. They were trying to create a posting utopia when that is impossible.
OP posts:
Quaagars · 11/10/2020 14:51

The responses are snippy because members of that site caused problems here and now they come back here to complain that that site is gone!

This
I bet MN are laughing their heads off at the slinking back here tail between legs posts lol

WotsitWiggle · 11/10/2020 14:53

@RoisinD

Interesting how some didn't witness what was obvious to many
Personally, I didn't read the MM threads or MN threads after the first week, when it started to get childish - by which I mean "look at this obvious troll post on MN" - which are the threads you mention as racist and trolling.

There was certainly none of the behaviour mentioned on the pet threads, craft threads or other threads I did frequent.

I'm disappointed to hear of that behaviour, as everyone I came across was supportive and friendly.

Roussette · 11/10/2020 14:57

SetPhasers
Yes. And it wasn't just me. It was lots of MNers who had a different viewpoint and posted here with a view those there didn't like. They were then posted about in a most derogatory way, it was horrible.

I reckon there were some great areas on that site that provided fun and support for some posters but... the busiest threads were the ones knocking JustineMN or MM.

It will be interesting because quite a few have been banned continually from here, so not sure where they are going to go. As much as MN must be pleased the trolling is going to stop, is there going to be an influx of bitter people registering on MN who want to cause trouble...

SunbathingDragon · 11/10/2020 14:58

@Janegrey333

They could not compete with a big, busy site like this one. Amazing the person who set it up didn’t understand that.
Lots of forums can and do compete. Reddit, Netmums etc. It’s not unrealistic to do so.
slithytoveisascientist · 11/10/2020 15:00

@amusedtodeath1

The responses are snippy because members of that site caused problems here and now they come back here to complain that that site is gone!

What did you expect, sympathy?

Another unpleasant comment. Given your justification doesn’t apply to me, I think my original point still stands.
picklemewalnuts · 11/10/2020 15:00

I'm sorry you had that experience Rousette.

One thing about MC was that you could 'ignore' posters, there were one or two whose comments were sharp that I tended to avoid. I never went on the Justine or MM threads because I wasn't interested. When I came across a thread that felt a bit smug, I went elsewhere. Exactly the same as on here, but with an ignore button!

picklemewalnuts · 11/10/2020 15:01

And the tone of this thread is pretty spiteful, frankly.

Roussette · 11/10/2020 15:03

Pickle Thanks Smile
Oh, I do think there was a lot of good threads on there and I feel sorry for those who were mid-support or something.

froggygoneacourting · 11/10/2020 15:03

having been ridiculed, abused, lied about, slated, for months and months, often daily, I am not going to pretend that I'm not glad it's closed down. Best news for me. I now feel free of their disgusting trolling of me, copying and pasting my MN posts, following me round here daring each other to post stuff to annoy me on various threads I'm on. (all because I don't think M&H are spawn of the devil)

Flowers

You're absolutely right, it's "sport" to them. The constant tone-policing and word-policing. The tantrumming if someone not in their gang doesn't play along, doesn't have the exact same opinions as them, or uses a word they didn't approve of (God, the endless tantrums over BAME/POC/WOC/BIPOC, and this coming from people who freely chuck the N word around). The feeling that you have to watch every single word you write, because if you make the tiniest grammatical error, or show the tiniest bit of emotion, or reveal the tiniest bit of personal information, it'll be used against you. The stalking. The being followed round the board. Having things you've said in other threads pulled out in an attempt to "Gotcha". (I was in a totally different thread recently and mentioned having lived in the US, and a poster responded with an inane off-topic post asking if I ever went back to the UK city I went to secondary school in. You could tell they thought they were being really clever in 'subtly' trying to paint me as a liar, without realising they were painting themselves as so provincial as to not realise that moving abroad is pretty common.)

The constant attempts to goad posters into responding defensively, just so they can then turn around and go "why are you being so aggressive? Why are you getting so upset? It's just fun gossip on a message board!" (After pages of being called stupid, arrogant, shit for brains, n**r, liar.) The fact that members of their 'gang' can post in such txt spk broken English it's barely decipherable, but if one of "our gang" so much as overlooks an autocorrect, the pages of "hahahahaha look how stupid so-and-so is!!!!"

For literally nothing but the crime of not enjoying a bullying pile-on of a biracial woman, or objecting to racism.

But let's face it, there are plenty of posters there, and plenty of posters here, who flat out refuse to admit that racism exists, who feel the existence of people claiming racism is exists is an attack on them and is anti-white racism, and who consider anything below Emmett Till level to be not-racist.

Janegrey333 · 11/10/2020 15:04

People must have looked over there quite often but most didn’t register. That seems to have been an issue, obviously.

OP posts:
ItIsEnola · 11/10/2020 15:04

If I was thinking of misogynistic social media that was obsessed with MN, encouraged trolling and had little to no moderation then Reddit and Twitter would top the list.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 11/10/2020 15:05

'Oh, I do think there was a lot of good threads on there and I feel sorry for those who were mid-support or something.'

Yes, Justine threads aside it would seem a crap stunt to pull when others were getting help. Maybe its all one big attention seek and it'll be up and running again later 🙄

Chatnotnet · 11/10/2020 15:05

I had better change my User name then....
So disappointed about that. I really enjoyed that Forum, much easier to say what you want to without being told off like a toddler! There is no freedom of speech here.
I just switched off for lunch and thought I would catch up on a couple of posts I was on and poof it was gone. Such a shame no warning when users may have been able to help.
Don't think I will be posting on Mumsnet again as the over moderation is totally ridiculous here.
So to all the posters who started to become friends from over there - so long and goodbye from hanidenaj xx

WolffromTheWest · 11/10/2020 15:05

There were a few well know MN Faces posting over there who I imagine will stay quiet now.

@Roussette I think you and a couple of other posters on this thread attracted a lot of negative attention over there for a reason. I think you're being pretty disingenuous on the reasons you were a target. I'm not going to start analysing it for you or anyone else as I don't want to get into that and I can only go on what I have seen of you repeatedly on various threads here on MN. I don't think it was all one sided. I'd also like to say that I never once joined in on any criticism of any poster from here. I lurked a few times a week and barely posted and that was about it.

lakeswimmer · 11/10/2020 15:06

I've used both MC and MN in recent months (have never been banned from MN or name changed and so I stand by what I post).

I enjoyed the MC user interface and the feeling that it was a smaller community - lots of friendly people and I'll miss it. Not a "racist shithole" IMO but some people can't handle those with different opinions to them. MN is a bubble, just like every other corner of the internet, and very little variation of opinion is allowed.

Now I'm going to Headforthehills

Hokeywokey · 11/10/2020 15:08

@picklemewalnuts

And the tone of this thread is pretty spiteful, frankly.
The tone of the MN thread on there was quite spiteful. The way they spoke about black mumsnetters was disgusting. The way they trolled the black section on MN is indefensible.
meercat23 · 11/10/2020 15:10

I posted there. I did not share the same view as other posters on a number of issues and was never attacked for that.

Roussette · 11/10/2020 15:12

WolffromTheWest

You're entitled to your opinion. I've never been banned from here or had posts deleted on a regular basis. That says something.
You don't like my opinion, that's fine, but bear in mind I never ever personally attacked anyone.
Can't say the same for an army of people who did that continually over months and months about me.

The one thing I would like to know is...'what various threads'?

I've never had a problem anywhere apart from the H&M threads so I think you are exaggerating for effect there.

MillieVanilla · 11/10/2020 15:12

@Frdd

If you reported racism on there you were banned.

It was the resident totes Hilaire fawned over bloke who proudly posted the black and white minstrels “joke”.

Yes he was one who my friend cried down the phone to me about Named after an IKEA furniture item yes? She tried to get me over there and I spent about a week having a look and was frankly shocked at what I saw. She then phoned me in tears and whatsapped me links to the thread and my god. I've seen less nasty stuff written by teenagers. Literally just kept up tagging and tagging and tagging her for abuse. If she blocked them they sent someone else in. Then someone had defended her as having clearly made a joke, and they got abuse too. She appealed to admin on their forum stuff bit about the constant abuse and the concerted effort to push her off or get her banned and the admin didn't even reply. Then she was banned. But yet she said the lot who were rotten to her were then triumphant at having had her banned, saying she flounced off. It was despicable actually.
Janegrey333 · 11/10/2020 15:12

@Hokeywokey

I net MNHQ are laughing their heads off. Will the 20 times banned poster try and make a comeback?
She (?) must have been so one who didn’t get involved. 😉
OP posts:
froggygoneacourting · 11/10/2020 15:14

I think you're being pretty disingenuous on the reasons you were a target.

Yeah, no. Rousette, me, all the other posters (many of them black or biracial) who have left MN due to the abuse, we've all been targeted for one reason and one reason only: objecting to and standing up to racism and racial hatred, especially on the Meghan Markle threads, from those who want a nice cosy little clubhouse of hate and object to anyone with a different opinion.

I'm sure the 'other side' will take this as evidence that MNHQ are against free speech or whatever, but look at the evidence: the Meghan Bashers are the ones constantly being banned and creating new accounts. Not us. There's evidence, real black and white proof, of Meghan Bashers engaging in sock puppeting, posting on the same thread under multiple name changes; registering new accounts after being banned; making malicious false reports to try to get posts containing opinions they don't agree with removed; photoshopping fake DM conversations; and registering accounts pretending to be black women. That's a hell of a lot for simple "gossip".

I mean, one of the most frequent posters on MC brags that she'd had something like 20 different accounts on Mumsnet. (Not 20 usernames, that she'd been banned, created a new email account, and registered a whole new account with MN to get around being banned, 20 times.) That's flat out psychotic.

Janegrey333 · 11/10/2020 15:15

“totes Hilaire”

What is that?

OP posts:
froggygoneacourting · 11/10/2020 15:18

some people can't handle those with different opinions to them.

That defines the MC brigade to a T. They're the ones making false reports to censor any opinion they don't agree with. They're the ones who literally make a whole new forum just so they don't have to see opinions that don't match theirs. They're the ones so enraged by the existence of people with different opinions they feel the need to stalk, bully and harass people on a forum they've been repeatedly banned from.

I've never been banned from here or had posts deleted on a regular basis. That says something.
Exactly, and ditto. (I've had numerous posts deleted then re-installed, when MNHQ admitted they'd been reported maliciously, which says a lot.)

Rhine · 11/10/2020 15:19

There was a lot of racism over there. One particular poster whom I won’t name used to post the most horrendous bile. Openly boasted about supporting Tommy Robinson and the national front, but would become horribly offended whenever someone dared to say that actually, she was a massive racist. She’d get all her racist mates to attack you in a pile on for daring to challenge her ‘freedom of speech’. Apparently challenging overt racism was ruining the atmosphere of their forum.
