And in order of 3 most favourite, what do you get?

We get about every 3 months

  1. Greek: souvlaki kebab platter.
  2. Fish and chips
  3. Thai.

Every month or so. We eat out more often, every 1-2 weeks.

  1. Indian
  2. Malaysian
  3. Pizza
caringcarer · 05/10/2020 22:27

Every Friday night and if one of the boys does really well at something. Gets a good school report, got 1 mile swim badge etc. then they choose.
Chinese
Pizza
KFC
Fish & Chips

Sheknowsaboutme · 05/10/2020 22:28

Rarely. Too expensive and i live 4 miles from the nearest so can’t be bothered to Drive to it,

Notcontent · 05/10/2020 22:56

Usually very rarely or hardly at all as I always find it really disappointing and much prefer to eat out. We did get a few takeaways (pizza and Chinese) during lockdown just to break up the monotony of life... I do buy sandwiches from pret etc if I am going to the office, but I don’t count that as a takeaway! (Unreasonable, I know...)

CoronaBollox · 05/10/2020 22:57

Every Friday and Saturday. 1. Chinese, Indian, thai.

ittooshallpass · 05/10/2020 23:11

Fish and chips about 3 times a year. I had no idea that people ate so many take aways until lockdown. How on earth do people afford it?!

My thoughts exactly! Not to mention the health risks from the added salt, especially in Chinese food. No harm as an occasional treat, but several times a week can't be good for you Confused

Never because we live miles from anywhere, we cook from scratch and I suppose I am tight and begrudge the cost because back in the days when we lived in a town, it was always a tiny bit disappointing and more expensive that I thought it ought to be.

I do crave a Chinese takeaway sometimes though.

Krazynights34 · 05/10/2020 23:34

If I had my way...never!
I hate take away curry (my DH can cook pretty much anything better than a takeaway).. but he does all the cooking and so when he wants pizza I can’t exactly say no (I do pretty much everything else house work based and he lives to cook otherwise I’d do more).
So once a month- pizza.
We are also veggies so Chinese is a waste of time (used to love ribs)

Gingerkittykat · 05/10/2020 23:43

1 Japanese, healthy and tasty but stupidly expensive.
2 Pizza from Italian chippy, much better and cheaper than Dominos, think £6- £8 for a pizza. I always get veggie without sweetcorn.
3 Mcdonalds

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/10/2020 23:44

I'm always amazed that people are so amazed that some people earn more than they do or choose to spend their money differently...

Also - 80 quid for a curry?! Really?!
To answer the question... DH and I have had a few over lockdown, but before then 5 or fewer a year

Recently we have slipped into once a week or once every 2 weeks but that's fish and chips which is 9 quid between the 2 of us.

Gingerkittykat · 05/10/2020 23:46

@Oblomov20

I literally can not believe how many people are twice a week! ShockShockShock

We are once a month, if that.

How do you afford that?

curry order is very expensive; popadums, 4 curries, sides, rice, naan. £80

Pizza for 4 - £30

Wow, that's expensive. Most Indians have set menus where you can have a curry and rice/naan and starter for around £10 per person.

Buy your own poppadoms from the supermarket, I see them on the Indian menu and they are so expensive. A supermarket pack of 6 will be around £1. Likewise, mango chutney and pickle will be around £1 for a jar.

CoronaBollox · 06/10/2020 00:12

Our Indian does a set meal of madras, rice, sagaloo and 1 naan for £16. Then DP will get a curry they're roughly 6 pound. Maybe a rice £2.50. Then 2 poppadoms and a chutney is 2.50. God knows where people are buying Indians for £80. Obviously cheaper for us as there is only 2, the toddler will have a bit of everyone's. Then saturday would be a lamachun, salad and chips each total cost about £10.

Chinese is our most expensive one. Just eat, uber eats have lots of offers at moment. I have %30 off my next 50 orders from uber eats. we recently got 2 lamachuns, chips, tarama with pittas and salad for £7.

Doliv63 · 06/10/2020 00:20

I cannot remember when we had a takeaway but if I am out and about I do occasionally have a sneaky McDonald’s cheeseburger...bloody marvellous!!

sergeilavrov · 06/10/2020 01:45

@longsigh He works full time from home in a stressful job and does 24/7 childcare for two under 5s as I work away for weeks at a time, often with zero notice. Ordering in makes life a lot easier, and we are fortunate to be able to afford it. I don’t envy him!

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2020 01:51

We have takeaway every two or three weeks. There's not much choice in our village, it's Indian or Chinese. Luckily both are good. The fish & chip shop is dire, sadly.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/10/2020 06:33

I could afford it more often but I stick to once a month as a lot of it isn't very healthy and I need to lose weight.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/10/2020 07:07

80quid for a curry?! No way.

We get a set meal (2 bahjis, one curry, one rice, a sag aloo, two naans, 2 poppadoms) feeds me and dh. It's under 20quid. If we also add for the kids that's max 40 total.

BubbleBoy12 · 06/10/2020 07:10

Once a week but then sometimes we've gone 3 weeks without and then two in one week.

So I guess my answer is pointless haha.

Erictheavocado · 06/10/2020 08:06

Rarely. Even before lockdown it was maybe five or six times a year, usually for birthdays or other celebrations. My own favourites at
1 Chinese
2 Indian
3 fish and chips.

Dh and dcs always choose pizza.
Would like it more, but dh is diabetic and its a bugger to work out carbs on takeaway meals.

TheChosenTwo · 06/10/2020 08:20

Once every couple of months, usually an Indian.
Not more often than that, we can cook well and eat good food at home but dh actively loves cooking so refuses to eat what he considers to be substandard food Grin
We don’t have a vast and varied selection though, the bog standard pizza chains mainly and I really hate takeaway pizza anyway.

AuntieMarys · 06/10/2020 08:26

Never. But we eat out at least twice a week

fussychica · 06/10/2020 08:51

Never. We rarely eat out in the UK either.

Wheytaminute · 06/10/2020 09:06

Very rarely - once a year maybe?

We did have Dominos pizza recently as DS requested it - it was nothing special.

Both me and DH dislike fried/greasy foods though which most takeaways are so home cooking it is.

Even ready meals from the supermarket are so disappointing - very artifical and bland despite the added oil and salt/sugars.
