We would try and not get more than 1 a week generally life has had periods where we've had to, and we have had periods where we have much reduced that.
But as we are no longer out for coffee or lunches in town as part of working in the city centre normally, or generally going out for dinner occasionally, both as a result of covid, we are getting one every single Friday night. Partly as our treat to ourselves, to cheer ourselves up, and also not have to cook at the end of the week (we're both WFH and under significant pressure, and DD has never stopped between school either remotely or back in person, and a whole heap of serious sports training over the summer and since return to school in person).
But also partly to support some of the many businesses in trouble locally - we are still earning and can afford it, so feel we should continue to spend in the economy where we can.
I know from a neighbour who runs a takeaway chain that generally, across the sector, it has changed utterly. There would be many buying takeaway midweek after busy days at work and just not bothering to cook at home later than usual. These are now (mostly) all working from home so not facing a drive and then cooking, but can cook in snatches during the day or have things in the oven for when they are finished.
But there is huge pressure all weekend - mainly Friday and Saturday but strongly on Sundays also - for takeaways to replace going out.
In our case, we had always gone (locally) to a mix of:
Indian
Thai
Generic asian
Chinese
Italian chipper
Good pizzeria
Dominos
Italian pizza and pasta
And because of covid, we can add takeaway meals from:
Fish and chipper
Sailing club (mix of chicken wings and chips to traditional roasts and seafood options)
Italian based restaurant in a hotel
Different Italian family restaurant
And on my list to try are local:
Steak restaurant
Seafood restaurant (very upmarket)
Another Italian family restaurant
Another Chinese family restaurant
As it seems like we are about to go back into stricter lockdown conditions (we hadn't really got back into going out to eat yet), I think we will be continuing this for a while yet.
