How often do you get takeaway?

And in order of 3 most favourite, what do you get?

We get about every 3 months

  1. Greek: souvlaki kebab platter.
  2. Fish and chips
  3. Thai.

Once a week - usually a curry on a Saturday night. Sometimes two a week if I am having a crap week - the second one would usually be pizza from the local Italian.

PurpleDaisies · 05/10/2020 19:06

I forgot, we usually get either Indian, chips from the chippy or chinese. That’s pretty much all there is here.

AgeLikeWine · 05/10/2020 19:08

We have fish & chips every Friday night.

pastandpresent · 05/10/2020 19:09

Never. I used to love Thai and Vietnamese takeaway, but having a child with multiple food allergies, we can't anymore. I do miss them.

BlueJava · 05/10/2020 19:11

Once or twice a week -

Wagamama
Thai (new fav)
Chinese
Dominos
Sushi
Burgers
Esp burgers and dominos if the DCs are home!

Bluesheep8 · 05/10/2020 19:12

Probably about one every 2 months.
Our local Chinese is fabulous so over a year we'll have that most often followed by Indian, then lastly fish and chips.

devildeepbluesea · 05/10/2020 19:12

About once every 3 weeks - 1 month.

DD is a bit funny about spicy food so it tends to be Chinese or chippy.

We used to have pizza lots, but she likes pineapple 🤮 so I just buy supermarket pizzas instead now. Not buying 2 from a takeaway!

Also, I love Indian food but have discovered Tan y Ddraig Beef Curry which is amazing! So if I'm alone I'll have that instead of a takeaway. Also I make a pretty mean curry of my own!

Ironmanrocks · 05/10/2020 19:13

Used to be at least once a week when we lived in a city close to everything - there was so much choice. Then we had kids and moved rurally - we are about 7 miles from town so once a month at the most.

Indian
Pizza
Fish and chips (usually on a beach!)

My OH gets them much more regularly as he will often have a KFC/Nandos/Fish and Chips for lunch. Dirty Pig! Grin

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 05/10/2020 19:14

@mamapants

Surprised people get once or twice a week must get very expensive. We have had about 4 times since March. We only have chippy, Indian and Chinese where I live.
I don't find it too expensive - if I'm eating takeawats I haven't had to do food shopping, so it balances out. For various reasons I've ordered loads recently. My top 3 are probably pizza, sushi or Indian.
TheBlueStocking · 05/10/2020 19:14

Oh god loads. Up to five times a week at one point.

Jen8888 · 05/10/2020 19:15

Once a week;

1/ Chinese
2/ Indian

I actually find fish and chips a bit yuck, but maybe because there isn't a good one around here

TheBlueStocking · 05/10/2020 19:15

I Deliveroo medicine, supermarket stuff, breakfast, whatever. There's so much on there!

PurpleDaisies · 05/10/2020 19:16

I don't find it too expensive - if I'm eating takeawats I haven't had to do food shopping, so it balances out.

Maybe the takeaway round here are super expensive but I doubt it. It’s massively more to get one than cook at home.

Kittytheteapot · 05/10/2020 19:16

Only on holiday, and only then once or twice, plus whenever we are doing a long distance car journey. Outside holidays, maybe once a year max. I have no idea how people afford regular takeaways.

firesong · 05/10/2020 19:18

Depends on finances and what is going on. At the moment, about once a week and it could be Indian, Thai, Turkish, pizza... whatever we fancy!

Bearsbearsbears40 · 05/10/2020 19:18

Only about once a month, but we do eat out more than that meaning there’s other nights we don’t cook. Top 3 are Chinese, KFC and Indian. Very occasionally we’ll get a Dominos (New Year’s Day is our pizza tradition), but as we’re rural we have to go to the shop and pick it up.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 05/10/2020 19:19

Since lockdown started once a week but before that less often
1 Kebab
2!Chinese
3 Indian

sergeilavrov · 05/10/2020 19:19

We're those people who have ceased trying to agree on takeout and order individually - probably twice a week when I'm home, my DH quite rightly orders in almost nightly when I'm not. Mine are,

(1) Japanese
(2) Lebanese
(3) Chinese/Vietnamese

When we order together - it's always Yemeni or Pakistani food.

bingoncbeebies · 05/10/2020 19:20

Once a week-ish

McDonalds
Maroush (Lebanese)
Pizza

Rockandgrohl · 05/10/2020 19:20

At least once a week

  1. Our local pub...so lasagne/steak pie/curry
  2. Pizza for me...kebab for DH
  3. Chinese

I'd kill for a thai or Greek takeaway nearby

eurochick · 05/10/2020 19:21

Sometimes not for several months but probably on average once every six weeks. Usually fish and chips or Chinese.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/10/2020 19:22

Pre covid maybe once every 6 or 8 weeks (guessing, on average).

Post covid (and much poorer) - we've had 3 takeaways since start of lockdown. 1 x Dominos when we had a 50% off code and I felt sorry for the teens. 1 x Indian takeaway on DH's birthday. 1 x Chinese takeaway on DS's birthday. In normal times we would go out to a restaurant to eat on a family birthday.

What this means is that me (mainly) or dh have cooked an evening meal partly or wholly from scratch for 3 or 4 adults every night since 23rd March at least, other than on 3 occasions. Oh, there was 1 night when dh and I went out and I think ds cooked himself bacon, egg and beans on toast or similar.

It's so boring but what the average woman used to do routinely without even questioning it up until about the 1970s. Staggering and mind-boggling!

Okokokitsout · 05/10/2020 19:29

I'm really interested that people hardly ever get them. Maybe I'm just lazy?! I'd be interested to know what people spend and how much this compares to income. Eg a £30 takeaway is different if you earn £1k a month compared to £4k.

pontiouspilates · 05/10/2020 19:30

I always find them disappointing and would rather go to a restaurant. Id say we get a takeaway once every 10 weeks and it's usually either Indian, Korean or Japanese

BoardingSchoolMater · 05/10/2020 19:35

Never, sadly, due to cost.

However, I would love to do it once a month or so. Top three would be Indian, fish and chips, and pizza - but I'd be happy with anything that I hadn't had to cook, tbh.
