Dear MIL

Sort out your own fucking house move. It has driven me to the brink and put me in an impossible situation - stuck between my family and you and DH. Sort it yourself, I’m done because I cannot win.

Because of you you have one son who is emotionally stunted and another who is an alcoholic racist. I can’t help but think that if you had spent more time parenting and protecting them from abusive FIL and less time drinking gin, I wouldn’t have to be picking up the pieces for them today.

Stop being so passive and woe is me. Get off your arse and bloody do something.

I miss you so, so much. More than I ever thought I could miss another human being. You did so much for me and your grandchildren and I hope you know just how loved and appreciated you were. Your final few months were so painful yet you did your best to smile whenever the children were around. You sat up in bed whenever the doctor came, because you didn't want a fuss. You were the most dignified, stoical, good-humoured person I have ever known, and I can only hope to be a tenth of the woman you were.

MIL - I’m pleased for you that you lost weight and reached your target with slimming world. You do not need to tell me this every time we meet, it has been 4 years and is boring! Dear late MIL. If you are really horrible to someone every single time they come to stay and make the visit as uncomfortable and unpleasant as possible, they aren’t going to want to visit. No, it was never ‘like a holiday’.
I’m glad ever single Christmas that I don’t have to spend it with you trying to ruin it.

Beryl, we love and miss you so much. You welcomed me into your family and I only knew you for a few short years. In that time you showed me what a lovely sweet kind forward-thinking lady you were, I truly wish that you were still here.

Sadly it's looking like E is going to be joining you soon, I can only pray that you'll be together again when that day comes. As loved parents in law, I couldn't have done better.
