ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

Exactly.
We can all be at work with hundreds of others yet cant meet up with 20 of the same people in the same place when we are not working!

They have cancelled the kids halloween party now, giving out activity stuff instead.
God its getting boring now.
Soon we will be taxed for breathing!

I dont have anyone at Xmas but I still think people should decide what they want to do for themselves. If you want guests fine if you dont thats fine too. Xmas shouldnt be extra stress making sure everyone else is having a good time while you are run ragged and miss it!

TheOrchidKiller · 03/10/2020 19:05

I've been out to buy some deadly pjs. City centre looks quite odd with people dressed up in their going out clothes, queuing to get into the bars, at 4pm. So that 10pm curfew will really serve a purpose as people are determined to have a good time by going out earlier. Good for them!

Does anyone know if it's compulsory to do T&T in a cafe if you go in for just a takeaway? I bought a drink from one a few weeks ago, didn't scan the QR code & no one asked for my details. But everywhere seems to have QR codes up now, places like Costa etc, for takeaway drinks. I object to risking self-isolation for the few minutes it takes to bung a tea bag in a cup, pay & walk out. It seems no different to me than buying milk from the local shop, where no one has to leave their details.

I miss having a sit down cuppa on a shopping trip, but the risk of self-isolation needs to be worth the experience. A takeaway tea in the pouring rain is definitely not worth it.

Taswama · 03/10/2020 19:13

My work canteen now has a track and trace bar code (and compulsory masks when ordering). Given we have to give 72 hours notice that we are attending site, I think they should already know who is there.

JamSarnie · 03/10/2020 19:36

The cafe that does takeout and sit down only seemed to do T&T for sit down which is what I thought was required.

BakewellTarts · 03/10/2020 19:40

Fabulous title!!!

Still reading not posting much. Life too stressful. But here with you in spirit.

Ghostlyglow · 03/10/2020 19:54

I think it's going to be a horrible miserable winter and I'm really not sure I'm going to be able to cope with it. Sad

Littlebelina · 03/10/2020 19:58

Eek, this thread has reminded me that I sat down in a cafe today and somehow managed not to scan a qr code or hand over details (complete accident, have the ffing app and would have used it). Doh

I'm just hoping the weather is far more obliging than last year. At least the weather has been a half decent mix so far.

Took the DCs out for a drenching walk. As long as we ply them with McDonalds first, they now don't put in much protest anymore. I just can't think of any convenient, enjoyable, legal alternative for getting out.

Only missing two rows of tiles on the roof tonight.

I got drenched today too! I think that's what set me off thinking about the next few months. I will need to go out for a walk everyday whatever the weather as I am definitely going to be WFH until at least next Spring.

HeIenaDove · 03/10/2020 20:29

@LivinLaVidaLoki Good for you. Id have said the same. The hypocrisy really gets on my wick.

Worldgonecrazy · 03/10/2020 20:50

@LivinLaVidaLoki would you mind if I pm’d you about Greece? It would be useful to know what the local take is if you could spare a moment to answer some specific questions.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/10/2020 21:00

Me too, but I saw a sign saying you couldn't even go in without scanning the code. And the other day I did go in to buy lunch to take outside & the owner asked me to leave my details. I was in there so briefly, we all had masks on, she was behind a screen, I gelled my hands. It seemed way over the top to leave my details, but I just wanted lunch, not a discussion or a telling off.

I wonder if cafes are being over-cautious? DD has been told by environmental health they can be shut down if they fail to get customers' details.

@littlebelina
Same happened to us this week in a restaurant, app scanning didn't work & we genuinely forgot to tell the staff.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/10/2020 21:15

@Worldgonecrazy I don't mind at all. Realistically may not answer til tomorrow as had my flu shot today and feel like shit, so off to bed shortly.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/10/2020 21:15

If that's ok x

I think I must have just walked straight passed the code without seeing it, suspect it was with hand sanitiser which I also didn't see attached to a post until after I sat down. Oh well, we deliberately chose the cafe as it was quiet and spread out so weren't closer than 2m anyway

Orangeblossom7777 · 03/10/2020 21:22

I haven't had it for takeaway no, though it was just for sitting in...

110APiccadilly · 03/10/2020 21:44

I went to Costa the other day - I was eating in and we left details (well, my friend, with whom I'm bubbled, and who I trust to tell me if T&T or the app contact her, did - they only wanted one person's details). But I'm pretty sure the sign only asked you to do it if you were sitting in.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/10/2020 22:02

Thanks for the replies about cafes. I will be assertive if asked to leave details in future & I'm not stopping! Trouble is, I am losing a tiny bit of confidence with all of this, think it's the masks. I can't hear what people are saying, & I can't see properly because they alter my depth perception. Felt like a bumbling old fool today.

justasking111 · 03/10/2020 22:08

Boris makes me laugh he will try to let us have xmas, how much notice, does he not realise the women run around like headless chickens planning xmas day weeks before, deciding what to do ahead, where to go to get the meat, veg, whether the spare room needs sprucing up. Give me strength.

Willow2017 · 03/10/2020 22:50

he will try to let us have xmas
Read that and decide just how bloody arrogant it is!

I am not asking for anyones permission!!

justasking111 · 03/10/2020 23:08

I cannot read it behind a paywall is the Times.

HeIenaDove · 03/10/2020 23:12

I can't see properly because they alter my depth perception

I said this on Twitter and a load of virtue signallers took the piss.

I spoke to a homeless woman yesterday. Id love to hear their excuses for this.

"Not sure how a homeless woman having to pick up and use a discarded mask so she can access food and medicine is classed as protecting the vulnerable. Which is what happened to someone i spoke to yesterday"

i posted that on another thread.

HeIenaDove · 03/10/2020 23:24

"people literally perform brain surgery wearing them"

"Then you should realise they don't affect your eye sight you halfwit. If its riding up your not wearing a correctly fitted one!!!"

"Protecting us not harming us despite what uninformed people tell us. Masks do not cause any breathing problems FACT. masks do not ride up if you have one that fits correctly FACT. and the idea wearing one impaired vision is ludicrous"

"You posted his statement as if it was true did you not? Did you not state it rides up and can impair vision?"

movingonup20 · 03/10/2020 23:27

I so miss blow out hotel breakfasts, just booking a room for next week (taking advantage of the dearth of American and Chinese tourists, meaning I can actually afford London!) and the breakfast on offer is not the same, eating your body weight in smoked salmon is a must!

Those arguements really piss me off. So I just imagined I was hypervenilating did I? Joint hallucination with the shop staff that were kind to me?

There are reasons why I'm not a surgeon... just as well after that earpiercing incident and the the free laxtex glove...
My customer took it very well...

It's the sheer lack of imagination to imagine anything other than their own circimstances.
