ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

48 solid hours of rain here and I really hope it isn't going to be like this all winter. Although it could be, given I'm in the damp South West. Those people who were planning a cheery winter snuggled around their fire pit must be re-considering.

@Willow2017

Retail will definately be manic if there are queues Curlygirl06 I can hardly wait! They will all spill out to the cafe in bad moods😄 I worked checkout last Xmas it was mind blowing!

I am trying to think of things for my teens for Xmas. So far I have one idea apart from my ds2's smellies. I need to try harder.😄

We have a cafe in our shop but it's been closed and no plans to reopen for a while yet, staff re deployed to shop floor. Touch wood and whistle, we've not had anyone (staff wise) with actual covid yet, few people been tested but all of them have been negative. Mind you, we're in a low incidence area. We've still got security on the door counting people in and out and without raising our limit I can see issues re Christmas. The queues in the car park will be epic and no doubt people will be horrible.
RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 04/10/2020 14:20

I wonder how they will handle 'Black Friday' this year? That should be fun ... not

Wishfulthinking1977 · 04/10/2020 14:22

Checking in so I don't lose you again!! Had a 2 week break from all social media! Mh was shattered! Still to nervous to put a toe back on fb after some awful rows with serious dementors! Big wave from the moist sw!! 😂😂

Blobby10 · 04/10/2020 14:39

Just left the house for the first time since I got home at 3pm on Wednesday! Have had a really nasty eye infection and the virus that caused it has wiped me out. However a short trip to Sainsburys for milk and other essentials (chocolate!) caused a near panic attack - how on earth did people not leave their houses for 6 months if it made me feel like this after only 4 days?

Willow2017 · 04/10/2020 14:50

Crikey they missed a trick in August then! We couldn't work fast enough for all the cafe customers getting half price meals (which are already dirt cheap anyway!) They were queueing fir 3/4 hr then waiting another half hour for thier food many a day just to get half price meals.

Never thought of that! There was some talk of us possibly opening it as an experiment but for some reason the idea was shelved. Possibly because of having to open the toilets/takings not enough, who knows? We get asked when it's being opened a lot but we just don't know. I just want things to be back to normal.
Willow2017 · 04/10/2020 16:14

We have bern busy as usual every day. Some days we had to close for a while just to catch up on dishes, clearing tables and batch cooking!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 04/10/2020 16:26

We just went to pizza express for lunch, its rather "COVID!!!!" - you have to do their track and trace app just to get access to the menus, which are on line and the website doesn't work well. You can only pay online, no cash, no card machines. Lots of signs up everywhere about restrictions and big signs on tables saying they arent to be used for social distancing. (Rather than the staff just not seating people at some tables).

Overall, the effect was to make it far more stressful and further from normal than the other local restaurants. I think next time we go out as a family we'll head to zizzis instead. They seemed much more relaxed the other week.

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/10/2020 16:57

I'm finding local places a bit better

wanderings · 04/10/2020 17:20

I umpired two netball games this week. It's lovely to be back doing this after so long, even if we umpires now have wiping down the ball and posts added to our duties, and making sure players keep their distance when idly chatting, especially when the ball is at the other end of the court: not easy for us to enforce, because we're watching the ball, not the idle players! Lots of "stand further away, please" just after blowing the whistle.

Die Regeln sind Scheiße!

I've had to tidy up for visitors Grin
Planned our Guiding for next term with an even mix of indoor/ zoom pods alternating and outdoors "together" with both pods.
I'm actually feeling quite positive about it and it feels quite balanced. Bonus, I don't have to go into a venue and face mask issues and as I'm co-ordinating Zoom, that saves the other leaders the trauma of that Grin

Die Regeln sind Scheiße! love it.

When we got back to the car park two cars there emptied of londoners who were staying in a holiday let in the high street. Will be pursed lips by the sour pusses who live along there. Grin

justasking111 · 04/10/2020 19:37

Just spoken to DS has first lecture studio day tomorrow. His design brief to design a face mask. He is not impressed.

HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 19:53

Im not looking forward to even doing a normal food shop in December . Whether taking part in Christmas or not the queues will be longer which means wearing a mask for longer.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 04/10/2020 20:53

I think I'll order double wine in November - hopefully somewhere will have a 25% off 6 bottles deal. Fill the freezer and buy plenty of cheese (which lasts way beyond its BB date), crackers and mince pies and then hibernate through until January 2nd.

Completely agree! I've not done a big shop in person since March! All my shopping is online! I have a lanyard as I am exempt but myself, my family and all my friends have decided we are avoiding all places that have restrictions in as there is no point spending money on leisure activities that are joyless! Dd came home early from UK break (booked last year) as the prebooking, restrictions and masks made it not enjoyable! It's a shame and going to destroy our local economy as our area is mainly tourist based so off the cuff activities! Even our nearest cities are ghost town's, we will lose nearly all of our high Street and our pubs and restaurants are struggling and looking at closing if things go on much longer! We are in a very tory based area, they now have no chance getting their seat back due to restrictions! We have one of the most elderly populations in our area and we have had 0 deaths at all and 0 cases since March! Even though our beaches were apparently rammed all summer! Our town is dying and there is going to be nothing left for our kids! We can't access any NHS treatments as all our surgeries are blockaded and all appointments are over the phone or online! Even cancer screening! Our Dr's want to go back to normal, our hospitals our empty our dentists will only see private patients, the elderly are locked away and so confused! What the hell is going on??!!
HeIenaDove · 04/10/2020 20:59

My local fb group has now banned any derogatory posts about people not wearing face masks in shops due to ableism.

TheOrchidKiller · 04/10/2020 21:01

I've been looking through some old word documents on my laptop. Found a diary I was asked to keep for the Mass Observation project for 12th May 2020.

I have written, "I'm shocked by how hard I'm finding this." (Lockdown).

I describe the unprofessional flouncing-out I did over an encounter with a lot of hazard warning tape. I think it was one of many last straws.

I also mention "a supportive thing I've found on the internet where other people feel like me about this. Not going barmy then."

That must be a reference to you lot, when I was still lurking. Thank you, all. Smile

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 04/10/2020 21:07

Hmm! There is a hedgehog at the bowl eating the biscuits, at the other side of the bowl is a big fat slug also consuming hog biscuits - and the hog is ignoring him.

If the hogs are not going to do their work and eat the slugs I'm not sure I want to feeding the little buggers.

Willow2017 · 04/10/2020 21:21

A choice between nice tasty biscuits and a slug???
Smart hedgehog😄😄

TheOrchidKiller · 04/10/2020 21:21

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind
Your hog food is obviously more delicious than a slug!

We used to have pet rabbits. The slugs were very fond of rabbit food. Went out one damp evening to find several huge slugs pretty much running towards the food bowl, one slug draped over the edge of the bowl, & a wide-eyed rabbit stamping his foot.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 04/10/2020 21:34

He might let ye have Christmas. Jesus Christ.

NPHET have just recommended the whole country go to level 5 lockdown. Wtf. No visitors in your house, no social gatherings outside, gyms and leisure centres closed, no sport, hairdressers closed etc. More or less back to the original lockdown.

I really hope the government don't agree with this but they have agreed with all recommendations.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 04/10/2020 21:35

Sorry that was totally off current topic.

I normally have a hedgehog in my back garden but haven't seen him in ages.
