Agree with others that this is likely to play out as "covid is a hoax/overstated I had it, im fine, its nothing to worry about".

Any discussion about covid will have him/his supporters claiming some sort of covid survivor rights, and that it gives them and them alone the right to talk about it

The worst effects of the virus can take a week or more. Remember Boris, his symptoms made him go downhill and then hospitalisation quite some time after his initial +ve test was confirmed. Death can take 4 weeks .... just saying ....

I just hope Joe Biden didn't catch it from him. Don't care about Trump one iota. He's been the main source of misinformation about this virus in the US. Denying it exists, calling it a Democrat hoax, shaming people for wearing masks, holding mask-free rallies and hoping thousands turn up in the middle of a pandemic, saying 'It is what it is' about the 200,000 American deaths. He has coronavirus? It is what it is.

Funny how Brazil's Bolsonaro also "tested positive" and had to shield for a few weeks when the country was incensed at his incompetence and he was being censured by the international community

Also... it has been agreed that the rules for the Debates were going to change ready for two weeks time. He's furious about that because it will be the Emperor with no clothes time. Convenient to get this and be out of quarantine one day after the debate date....

I've come over all gloomy, but I can't see how this is good news.

(1) If he recovers, he'll be seen as the Superman Messiah by his followers and get an electoral boost.
(2) If he is seriously ill, he'll be seen as the Brave Suffering Messiah by his followers and get an electoral boost.
(3) If he dies, presumably Pence will simply take over as Presidential candidate, he's just as much of a nutjob really. And he'll get the electoral boost of grief-stricken Trumpists and any Republican voters who had been put off voting because they didn't like Trump's shenanigans.
(4) Or (and I'm not usually prone to conspiracy theories, but this seems suspiciously convenient), Trump doesn't really have COVID but is using this to avoid being shown up in debates, plus get the (1) and (2) electoral boost from his followers.
(5) If he does have COVID, he could have spread it to Biden, who is also an elderly man.

If his followers are already convinced it won't do anything extra to make his Presidential chances greater, they still only get one vote.

Thankfully he is very Marmite, loved or hated - the people who can't stand him aren't going to change their mind just because he now has COVID

This is not a win win because early voting and voting by mail have already started. Millions will cast ballots in the next 2-3 weeks. Who would actively vote for someone who is ill with a potentially serious disease?

I’m more inclined to think if it’s fake it is to serve as an excuse for his election loss. Biden is up 8 points and more than 10 in Pennsylvania which is a battleground state.
