Watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike.
Psych.

Now gather nicely in groups of no more than six...
Unless you're outdoors in Wales...

Oh well, come on in whatever the laws where you are. Plenty of space in this bubble of sanity Wink

Jeez @bluetongue that's terrible.

Is this where the middle aged woman has her chance to shine? We're not normally seen as a threat. We get away with murder with a careful blend of charm and cheek. People would film us being wrestled to the ground. Plus I'd take the fine and not pay it. That great scene in Fried Green Tomatoes - 'I'm older and have more insurance'.

That's me, life goals.

Jourdain11 · 22/09/2020 11:43

Hiya all Smile
I'm doing okay, thank you! I'm health-care much better and my last tests showed that the chemo is totally kicking leukaemia's ass Wink I'm feeling muuuuch better in terms of treatment side-effects too - just a bit tired, but no sickness and my hair has even started growing back (because the drugs I'm on now don't cause hair loss). So good news all round.

Family-wise, things are a bit stressful. DH is loathing the new normal in primary schools. Not because of the virus-breathing kids "crammed in like sardines", but because he is just finding it stressful and joyless. He doesn't even get a breather at lunch because they have lunch in the classrooms - no singing - handwashing that takes forever. I've never known him to hate his job this much! He's seriously thinking about quitting, although I think ultimately he won't.

Incidentally, the ginormous 4-form entry primary haven't had a single positive test or anyone/any classes sent home. Nor have my DC's school...

And my poor, lovely DD8 has turned into a nervous wreck and is majorly distressed with OCD behaviours, saying that she wants to die, refusing to eat.... this has been going on about a month and a half...

I'm fed up about the new restrictions, whatever they are going to be. Stupid bloody masks (does anyone seriously thing these germ-infested rags which people whip on and off their faces umpteen times a day do anything?). Stupid Sadiq Khan, who actually wants to shut down London even though cases and hospital admissions have fallen. I'm now calling him Dementor Mayor.

I am just pleased that the Tory backbenchers are getting seriously antsy. I love Charles Walker! But Labour are being pathetic.

Rant over, sorry! BlushSmile

Jourdain11 · 22/09/2020 11:44

*health-wise, not health-care

Jourdain11 · 22/09/2020 11:45

Oh, and also... the building next to us seems to be being totally gutted and put back together. Drilling and hammering from 8am-7pm Angry If escape from it is prohibited, I may go totally mad!

DorsetBlueMovie · 22/09/2020 11:48

Ah, that's fab news Jourdain (about your health, not your DD obv). I've thought about you often when the opinions of people who are immuno-compromised are assumed on other threads Grin (I was on the earlier Ad threads but can't remember what name, I change my MN name as often as my knickers).

Whereas I never change mine because I wouldn't remember it! Wink Meh, the way I see it, if you're immuno-conpromised you would always have risk. Noro or a cold would be as dangerous as Covid. In "normal" times, people having chemo don't shut themselves away because of the risk of getting those, so why should Covid be different? And incidentally, my consultant said the same...
RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 22/09/2020 12:03

It's come to something when there is more opposition from the back benches than the official opposition.

But I'm cheering them on. (and I bet Rishi is too)

DominaShantotto · 22/09/2020 12:08

Still no word on DD2's covid swab. DH's came back overnight - they put them physically in the same test collection bucket, after going in the same car so god knows what's happened to it.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/09/2020 12:31

Won’t any of you hold a minute’s silence for Jackie Stallone? Sadly taken in her prime. 😢

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 12:42

Jackie Stallone was an amazing dame. A real italian mama and nonna. I do love a good character.

@DominaShantotto there is an old fashioned drug I was given nearly 40 years ago. It is still available. It is a chemical cosh but seeing as we have absolutely no counselling just now I would research it. It worked for me coz in those days there was no counselling on the NHS or privately . It is called Anafranil. Bloody hell it worked from curled up on the floor with a baby to feeling absolutely amazing took a month. These days they use it for OCD I had agorophobia but it worked just the same.

SockYarn · 22/09/2020 12:59

We have a new addition to the bingo card. BoJo just said it in the briefing.

Brazenly Defying.

It's autumn's answer to blatantly flouting.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 22/09/2020 13:01

The thread on exam questions is funny.

DominaShantotto · 22/09/2020 13:06

I've considered buying whatever I can get from dodgy online pharmacies to try to calm this horrible anxiety down - but I have to stay sensible for the kids.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 13:07

the dementors won't be happy- looks like the restrictions are going to be milder than expected, today. There's already a post asking is that it?

Right, we need to work Brazenly Defying into the next thread title.
Tootletum · 22/09/2020 13:10

@Orangeblossom7777 the thread just went up. They're obviously hoping this was just for starters though. Lots of not tough enough etc. That and someone in a petrol station with no mask.

I'm going to sound very hippy here, but have you tried passion flower extract? It may sound unlikely, but it really really worked for me and many people I know.

My advice re. mindfulness is that it can be very unhelpful when you're in a very anxious state. It is often advised against in my line of work, because it can exacerbate things. Distractions are better!

Ibake · 22/09/2020 13:15

And if @Jourdain11's hippy suggestion doesn't work, might I suggest weed Grin (which, to be fair, is also a hippy suggestion)

"This is obviously just the start"
"He mentioned the military, so there are going to be army checkpoints" (as opposed to ... delivering food parcels or driving extra patient transport??)
"One thing we can definitely say is that the rule of six will still be in place for Christmas"
"THE SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED BY THE END OF THE WEEK"

DorsetBlueMovie · 22/09/2020 13:18

what do you do? (If you don't mind me asking)

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 13:21

It seems to basically be staying the same but pubs shutting early. There's quite a good summary going on in the Guardian..

www.theguardian.com/science/2020/sep/22/scientists-disagree-over-targeted-versus-nationwide-measures-to-tackle-covid

It seems Rishi begged Boris to keep pubs open and also as above they are looking at balancing harms more...

think most of the dementors looking for lockdown will be disappointed today.. wonder what will happen in Scotland.

I reckon, something a bit stricter to look better and different...

Jourdain11 · 22/09/2020 13:23

@DorsetBlueMovie

what do you do? (If you don't mind me asking)
Work in Eating Disorder services!
DominaShantotto · 22/09/2020 13:25

Thanks for the suggestion @Jourdain11I'm at the point where I'll give anything a go so ordered some.

I'm laughing at the military - the last social gathering I went to - which started off socially distanced and ended up at 2am with a lot of hairy squaddies dancing around in thongs was on the fucking army base! My kids have a halloween flouting sleepover planned... on there!

ilovecardigans · 22/09/2020 13:32

Flowers for everyone who is struggling at the moment. In Northumberland we've been under tighter controls than most of the rest of the UK for a week or so now, the upshot of which was that a very dear friend who I've not been able to see since March has had to cancel a planned trip to visit me. I'm pissed off and a bit sad, but it's nothing compared to what others are going through.

Apologies if this has been posted previously, but this kind of made me feel a wee bit better about things and I thought I'd share it:

DorsetBlueMovie · 22/09/2020 13:34

Ah! Thought it might be something along those lines. Grin

Our local military base had their own little cluster of cases.... thanks to some of the wives having a Botox party and the face-freezer had travelled from a local lockdown area to do it.
