Good luck with the new section - marvellous work and incredible levels of forbearance in the face of such racism. Adding my voice to the hope that mumsnet take a good look at some of the posts on this and the other thread.

I hope to be lurking, listening and learning when the board is up & running.

Just thinking out loud, should it be called Black Perspectives do you think it will attract more attention from non-black posters asking us to educate them as it is all about our perspectives?

Hmmm... I just see Black Perspectives about being black opinions/discussion rather than a one dimensional educate me.

I need some time to work out how to express my thoughts just now as I’m fighting a toddler but here’s this:

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/perspective

Perspective is more round table thinking to me. A discussion instead of a lecture? Thoughts on a subject rather than feeding knowledge.

Oh my Lord, I’m getting a empty sippy cup thrust in my face. I’ll be back.

Marg33t · 14/09/2020 17:33

Well done everyone involved especially PR

I will start posting again on mn once we get our own set of boards

Phoenix21 · 14/09/2020 17:43

Ok, so if I want to know how to make ackee and saltfish posting on BP or maybe even Blacknet seems appropriate. Ie a space for normal stuff not just the serious.

I may get a recipe for it then a discussion on its history and banter of which Island cooks it best.

Black Experience/Black mums Matter just sound more serious to me? And I’d like this board to be a mix of both but also a positive happy inclusive safe space.

BP wasn’t my suggestion btw, but Ive been strongly advocating for it Grin

In all honesty after these last few threads I doubt I’ll be responding much to the wide eyed demands to talk for all black people.

Maybe people would be interested to read but not contribute if they are not black? It's pretty obvious that white people won't be welcome and any questions will be viewed negatively. I'd be interested in reading the boards but would never ask anything because it sounds like it's going to be hostile unless a poster is black. I hope it's not but I don't feel welcome expressing anything here let alone on the board when it is set up.
Phoenix21 · 14/09/2020 17:58

@bercows why do you not feel welcome expressing opinions here?
There has been quite a bit of welcomed input from white folk on at least 3 threads that I’ve seen on this topic?

Do you have any suggestions for a board title that will make you feel welcome too?

Quaagars · 14/09/2020 18:02

I feel perfectly welcome as a white person on these threads, friendly and bantery (eg rice and peas on the other thread lol)

Thanks, I’m glad to hear it.

Yes the marrows was a classic 🤣🤣🤣

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 14/09/2020 18:20

The way I look at it is everyone has to learn, questions are a part of that.
I think it's the uneducated questions people object to.

I'm not black so the black perspective board won't be directly relevant to me at present but in the same way the Sen or conception boards aren't relevant. It doesn't mean I'm not interested

elppaenip · 14/09/2020 20:33

Why not show me where I've repeatedly told posters to fuck off?

Not easy, because MNHQ appears to have deleted them all.

Although I'm sure they would still be available to view on Google cached versions of the threads.

But one still remains, courtesy of the quote function, so I'll show you that. Your post containing it has been deleted, but not before I happened to use the MN function to quote you in a post of mine some way further down the thread. See my post yesterday in your 'Dear black people of mumsnet' thread on site stuff, timed at 15.54.22 where your quote is included and you say:

When a black person is telling you how they feel about racism they face from white people you should shut the fuck up and listen.

I hate to say this, but that ain't telling anyone to fuck off. Its telling us white folk to shut up and listen because black people know what black people experience when it comes to racism.

She isn't telling people to fuck off she's telling them to shut the fuck up and listen. Judging by your lack of comprehension and/or disingenuousness maybe you should take her advice.

Late to the thread, but has the poll closed?☹️
I like Blacknet.

PonDeReplay · 14/09/2020 21:07

@PatricksRum please pm me the code to vote. Thanks!

Originally, I liked Black Mums’ Matters, but I’ve been won round to Black Perspectives.

yellowsunrise · 14/09/2020 21:28

She isn't telling people to fuck off, she is telling them to shut the fuck up and listen

Oh that's all right then, that makes all the difference. Hmm

Ginkypig · 14/09/2020 22:52

Well I'm not black as a have openly stated on all the previous threads Iv posted on and Iv been nothing but welcomed.
I haven't mentioned any more than that so I assume most posters have assumed I am white.

I assume it's because I'm not trying to tell grown adults what they should want without taking a minute to hear what was being said or dismiss them when they are specifically telling "us" that there is a need for a space to chat about things from a black perspective away from the main boards when I have no fucking idea what it's like to be black so can't possibly understand that need.

So yes I (mostly) shut the fuck up and listened because no one was telling me to fuck off they just wanted to be able to calmly come up with ideas without being hounded and harangued from people with no comprehension of the reality of their situation.

For what it's worth while I'm not black I am part of a not black but mixed race family so have experienced racism so I really do understand the importance of the need for having a place to be able to talk without thinking it's going to be misconstrued. If some of you don't then you should count yourself incredibly lucky because it almost certainly means no one has ever forced you into understanding.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 14/09/2020 23:27

Well said Ginky Pig
Thank you

PatricksRum · 14/09/2020 23:46

There's a load of bullshit comments on this thread.

I have some white ethnicity as part of my make up. I have some white family members. Apparently I hate white people. Hmm
Yeah okay.

Apparently I've told all white people that they aren't welcome and shouldn't post. Yet they still come back again to post to derail the thread.

As pp have said white people are very welcome. Everyone is welcome. Respect is key.
A lot of white people (Quaagers) etc have been amazing!
I've pointed out many a time, it's white people who can change racism.

All a load of bollocks. If you don't feel welcome to post them ah do you keep coming back?

Thanks Quaagers. That rice and pea dish is something all together. Grin Knorr were so ashamed of the advert they removed it immediately. I still can't understand how he boiled chicken drumsticks? The mind boggles.
OP posts:
MagentaRocks · 14/09/2020 23:55

I am not going to vote as I am white and I think it should be for people affected to make the choice of what they want their space to be called.

I will however read that section to get more of an insight on the different things that effect BAME people, and comment if I feel I have something to say, even if it just showing solidarity.

Good luck with the new board. I hope it is everything you wish for.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 15/09/2020 00:03

Ok so as a white woman I vote (if that's ok)

  • yeah if people want a black space on here why not? Can we still visit though?
  • call it what you like. Obviously. The marketer in me likes Black Mums Matter ( catchy. Fits with the brand. Makes the point). Black perspective sounds a bit ernest.)

Oh and racism is a boring waste of all of our time. Haven't we all got better things to do than being racist?
