Ham and Cheese Sandwich

Would you agree a ham and cheese sandwich is a healthy lunch?

OP posts:
GrouchyKiwi · 03/09/2020 20:14

I should have made a snack before reading this thread. I need a ham and cheese sandwich (with extra cheese) to keep me sustained through the batshittery of it all.

Obsessing about the healthiness of your food is much worse for you than just enjoying everything in moderation.

daisychain01 · 03/09/2020 20:15

I'd leave hungry. Sounds paltry. I couldn't do that to my guests. Lazy, too.

Delighted you're not my friend and I wouldn't enjoy being with someone who has such nasty sneery thoughts especially as you don't know me or my friends We are all veggies. It's what they requested and how is it "lazy" to create the sandwich filing from scratch.

Calm down @EarringsandLipstick sorry a Mumsnet post that I clearly said was as a result of a quick google out of interest didn’t meet your academic rigour 😂

My Ham and cheese wrap/sandwich would have way less grams of fat than a cheeseburger.

I actually think the whole thread is ridiculous but that is kind of the point I guess Grin.

@Greysparkles

I don't know, but it's a crime not to have pickle in there!
You have just decided my lunch for tomorrow!!
Sforsh49 · 03/09/2020 20:16

Fine by me. But then I have been known to butter a slice of ham, roll it up and eat it. Try it, works with Philadelphia instead of butter too 😋

I'm going to MN hell 😂

PhilSwagielka · 03/09/2020 20:16

Remind me never to post what I eat for lunch on here (no, not ham sandwiches before anyone asks, I don't eat meat).

ktp100 · 03/09/2020 20:19

Only if the bread was wholegrain, it was spread with butter, not margarine and the ham was nitrate-free (which 99.9% aren't).

Please don't tell me to 'calm down'. It's so patronising.

What I said (if you'd like to read it?) is that randomly posting links to say 'processed meat is carcinogenic' without context is irritating and unhelpful.

People read it & panic, and it 'proves' nothing.

What I did was provide a little context.

No need for 'academic rigour' but no need to lazily post links and make inaccurate uncontextualised statements, either.

@IHaveBrilloHair

I ate one yesterday and I died, so proceed with caution.

Even bananas are unhealthy. You have to eat 400 in one sitting to die from potassium poisoning.
Though if you sat under a banana plant & all the bananas fell off onto your head you could get a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain etc.
Bananas are very dangerous & fatal.
More dangerous than a ham & cheese sandwich if you think about it 😂

etopp · 03/09/2020 20:21

According to MN, if Corona isn't going to kill us, then cheese is.

MN is a very odd place.

yolio · 03/09/2020 20:22

No kids at home now, so hope that's ok re the 15 a day brigade.

OH just said feck it and put a humoungous sandwich in the toaster pocket thing for both of us. Yum

I don't like butter, but I have definitely 'buttered' a slice of ham with full fat Longley Farm cream cheese.

I have also been known to butter a slice of ham with Colman's English Mustard. It is very tasty.

Please don't tell we're going to be banned from eating cheese, 2020 is bad enough.

Marmunia1975 · 03/09/2020 20:23

Probably won't die of scurvy. Vegan for 30 plus years, age 46 and run marathons. No cheese or meat near me.

MrsMayo · 03/09/2020 20:24

Marmunia1975

I guessed you were vegan. Well done on the marathons.

My Ham and cheese wrap/sandwich would have way less grams of fat than a cheeseburger.

But many of those on sale in supermarkets have a similar amount, or even more.

Calories and salt the sandwich above sandwich is higher than a big mac

cuparfull · 03/09/2020 20:28

On wholemeal bread, no buttery spread, with lots of salad stuff, spring onions, toms, cuc etc & awash with salad cream....yesssss Grin

Seriously though I do know this, if I ever have to resort to a meal deal I do look at the calorie/fat content.

BrokenBrit · 03/09/2020 20:29

@EarringsandLipstick it’s really not patronising, you seem very invested in this and trying to correct my posts. If anything I think you are trying to patronise me. A poster asked if another poster had any evidence for the claim that processed meat causes cancer. I was interested in this too. A quick google showed sources as wide ranging and respected as the WHO and the NHS have stated that it is a carcinogen.
Of course how dangerous it is will be dose dependent. I’m sure no one is panicking and everyone can make their own choices as to what they eat. Honestly take a look around the whole of Mumsnet for panicky posts on various topics, and plenty that are full of actual ‘fake news’, and worry about them! This is now so far from the original post I’m going to leave the craziness here.
Remember folks don’t listen to Mumsnet or doctor google for your dietary decisions Wink.
