Would you agree a ham and cheese sandwich is a healthy lunch?

OP posts:

It's fine.

The salt alone is not healthy.. 🤣🤣🤣

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/09/2020 18:17

Wrong audience, op. You'll be told to have a HUGE salad instead Grin

RedCatBlueCat · 03/09/2020 18:19

With some salad or a piece of fruit, absolutely fine.
With a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps, not so great.

A piece of fruit or salad doesn't change the composition of a cheese and ham sandwich...
Op hasn't said she's having crisps and chocolate as well Hmm

DullDullWeather · 03/09/2020 18:22

No idea as I only ever have ham and cheese in a toasty (and not often)

Never appealed to me in just two slices of bread and butter.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/09/2020 18:24

White bread, highly processed ham and a cheese slice? Nothing else. It won't kill you but it's certainly not adding anything to your life. You'd eventually get scurvy. Eventually getting scurvy is my benchmark. But if you ate porridge and fruit for breakfast and chicken and veg for dinner? Fine. No scurvy.

Brown seedy bread, ham that's not full of nitrates and salt, real cheese and a salad/fruit on the side? Healthy. No scurvy.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 03/09/2020 18:25

No way! Needs some fentanyl and a joint to go with it. FFS, yes, it's fine.

PattyPan · 03/09/2020 18:26

No, it’s not a balanced meal if that’s all you’re having. Needs a bit of fruit and veg. Also no if it’s white bread, slightly better if wholemeal.

It changes the composition of the MEAL though. From no vitamin c to some. It doesn't change the risk of processed meat. I eat it BTW I just don't think processed ham is 'healthy'. It's clearly not.

Not without further information.
MiddleClassProblem · 03/09/2020 18:30

Not particularly but if you’re gonna do it do Serrano ham, manchego, olive oil, and something like sourdough.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/09/2020 18:32

In actuality for my diet can’t have bread and depends on carb content of ham

roarfeckingroarr · 03/09/2020 18:32

No. It's not healthy. It's also not a can of Monster and a bag of crack.

AdaColeman · 03/09/2020 18:33

As long as you’ve made it with naice ham, it is fine!

JamSarnie · 03/09/2020 18:33

As a meal on its own with a varied diet it's fine in my book.

bluecoffeecups · 03/09/2020 18:37

Why are you asking?

MrsMayo · 03/09/2020 18:38

I ate one yesterday and I died, so proceed with caution.

Grin

Seriously though, it depends on how much cheese etc but I prefer a cheese and ham toastie anyway.

catherinep80 · 03/09/2020 18:40

I wouldn't say it's healthy but I do like a good ham and cheese sandwich so I will eat one occasionally. My kids eat them every day for lunch because it's the only sandwich they'll eat.

Mrsjayy · 03/09/2020 18:40

Some posters eat so little that the thought of bread and cheese sends them over board. Cheese and ham is calcium fat and and protein bit of bread is carbs so a balanced lunch stick a bit of tomato on it and tere you go.

butterpuffed · 03/09/2020 18:40

Use wholemeal bread, add some sliced tomato and I'd say it's fairly healthy.

Lugubelenus · 03/09/2020 18:40

It's healthier than a bag of chips and a deep fried Mars bar.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 03/09/2020 18:41

Without mustard or chutney? Boring.
Now and again, in moderation, if you’re not coeliac, or on Keto, or trying to lose weight or whatever, it’s fine. Everyday, dull and prob not so healthy.

Do you come from a long line of sea-faring folk? Grin

This is the most MN thread there has ever been because you have got literally every possible answer on it.

@IHaveBrilloHair

I was there. She got instant scurvy. The doctor asked, 'Was it white bread?' When I cried, 'Yes!' he just shook his head and said there was nothing more they could do.
