Would you agree a ham and cheese sandwich is a healthy lunch?

Whole meal sarnies filled with aubergine, courgette and pepper slow-roasted in balsamic, fresh basil leaves and ground pepper and turmeric.

Needs cheese. HTH.

NataliaOsipova · 03/09/2020 19:03

It’s pretty average, I’d say. Not “healthy” or “unhealthy”. Assuming you have some sort of proper dinner with vegetables etc, perfectly fine and not something that would attract comment.

@daisychain01

Not as naice as my sarnies I'm making for a socially distanced lunch tomorrow on the patio with 2 friends I haven't seen for 6 months, sqeee can't wait.

Whole meal sarnies filled with aubergine, courgette and pepper slow-roasted in balsamic, fresh basil leaves and ground pepper and turmeric.

Followed by organic honey yoghurt topped with braised apricot.

Mmmmmmm.

Well I'd not be overly happy with that lunch but I suppose you know what your friends like.

@BlusteryShowers

It's neither unhealthy nor healthy. Perfectly acceptable part of a balanced diet.
^^ this.

Come on. Most kids and many many adults in England will have a ham or cheese sandwhich everyday for school/work...

DolphinsAndNemesis · 03/09/2020 19:10

What about a hamwidge?

No not at all healthy, butter and cheese are fats and Ham is salty and full of nitrates. Ok in moderation though!

WaltzfortheMars · 03/09/2020 19:11

Even better if it was made into hot sandwich with lots of butter.

CrunchyNutNC · 03/09/2020 19:11

Fats aren't bad gamesetmatch

Caspianberg · 03/09/2020 19:13

I ate a ham, cheese and marmite sandwich at every school packed lunch from 4-18 years. Seem to have survived.

Might have one tomorrow now, haven’t had one for yonks. Might go all out and turn it into a toasty.

viccat · 03/09/2020 19:15

It's a lot of calories for not that many nutrients, and probably doesn't keep you full very long either. So no, it's not "healthy".

MiddleClassProblem · 03/09/2020 19:17

Are you catering lunch at a health club?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 03/09/2020 19:17

No it's not healthy.

A healthy salad would be humous spread on brown bread with a salad filling.

I'd make a couple of cheese and ham sandwiches as well just in case.

AgentProvocateur · 03/09/2020 19:20

Not healthy in any way, but tasty.

Sounds yummy...I'm partial to a cheese, marmite and peanut butter one.

Fat is not your enemy!

It's extremely important for healthy brain function and to maintain the myelin sheathing which allows signals to be conducted around our nervous systems.

It gives food a lot of flavour too - always a bonus. Grin

EerieSilence · 03/09/2020 19:23

No pickles, no mustard, no salad, no anything else? Healthy but boring.

MrsMayo · 03/09/2020 19:25

I feel so ashamed. I have just made my teenager a ham wrap with a sprinkle of cheese on for lunch tomorrow.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/09/2020 19:25

@tectonicplates

My answer: only if it's carb-free bread, meat-free ham and dairy-free cheese. Otherwise you will develop gout.
But at least it's not scurvy.

Why just a 'sprinkle'?

That's right Rafals

You may not be able to walk, but you still have your hair and teeth.

AuntyPasta · 03/09/2020 19:29

It’s only one meal. It has protein and calcium - almost half the required amount of protein for an adult, which is great. It’s high in salt and saturated fat (a third of each the recommended maximum for an adult.) Ham counts as red meat so if you eat a lot of other red meat it’s too much but if you don’t it isn’t. What matter is the daily/weekly salt, saturated fat and calorie intake.
