Just dropped my bike off for a service! It was new at the start of the year but I've done 2400 miles on it and its developed an annoying clicking noise Angry hopefully they can sort it out easily!

*@torydeathdrug * I know how your DH feels - I'm running our engineering firm whilst boss (dad) shields and whilst half the factory are on furlough, the other half are only working 21.5 hours a week but paid for their normal 38 hours. Im working 5 days a week doing 40+ hours covering for everyone. I have a day off booked for 4th September but for anything else, the phone and laptop would have to come with me so no point in going away for the time being Sad

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 13:00

Waiting for another callback as dds arm is getting worse and is now painful. Funnily dh rang the surgery this time and got put straight on the triage call list - being cynical I suspect at least unconscious sexism at play.

It’s the fact everything is a fight and so complicated at the moment - it’s draining me and I still need to fight over dds eyesight to come
@NannyPhlegm, thanks. I like the holding card up in front of my face idea. I might not manage zoo today but I shall try for this week. I loathe how anxious I feel about something that ought to be fun. Everywhere I should like to go is pre book even the library!Hmm so the normal spontaneity that my family requires is an impossibility. But you can return books without prebooking (Autocorrect changed that to preboozing Grin). Which means I get my bedside table back.

I am going to tackle things in baby steps because otherwise I am going to be teetering on the edge of agoraphobia and I would rather not fall down that edge.
Funnily enough agorophobia which I have been recovered from for years is twitching in the background. I have to give myself a talking to before I go out now. Once I am out am ok. I really need to go out daily whether I need to or not just to keep on an even keel.

@ISaySteadyOn

On another note, does anyone else have DCs who refuse the loo until they are absolutely bursting and can't understand other people needing it either?
I have one of those. We have a lot of wet underpants in our house from when it's left too late. Even when he's dancing about he still denies needing to go if I ask. It winds me up a treat!

@dingit

Bad news, ds driving test was cancelled. He got an email but it was tacked right on the bottom of their standard email that was sent to everyone saying tests were back on Angry
bastards. DS we rebooked three weeks ago, paid the money not a peep out of them, they have taken the money. Have no idea what is going on nor has his driving instructor.

I've had that - so much so that I will send him with the kids if we're really worried. He thinks I image it but it's stopped back and forths so often I don't think I am.

justasking111 · 28/07/2020 13:21

I am officially a grumpy old cow now. Went to Asda, no arrows to follow great news. Got halfway around the store going up one aisle down the next to find I was facing the wrong way, they had left the arrows on the ground after three aisles so I was being glared at. WTF. How am I supposed to know that Asda have not removed all signs.

That is just not on. My surgery have been great others not so much from what I can see, ditto A and E which is busy again in parts because GPs are still in March pandemic mode from what I can fathom.
Worldgonecrazy · 28/07/2020 13:25

For those who have the lanyards, I’ve used it with no issues and have cancelled online delivery because supermarkets are okay. There is 100% compliance with masks locally so I do stand out but don’t cate.

Wear it with pride

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 13:29

Still waiting for the GP surgery to call - it's very red, area's extended down the arm and it's hot. We've been following their advice and the advice on the NHS site to the letter. Poor poor DD2 has been so let down - with her vision issues being ignored, with her speech being fucked by this - now this which has me worried.

Oh and uni, who normally reply to anything asked on social media asap and are in the middle of the clearing charm offensive - are silent on my tweet about the masks in lectures policy.

I get this too. In my case it’s the LA and SEN teams. I’m fighting for dd2 to get any education in September. Getting nowhere so DH has taken over. Suddenly emails are being replied to and things are being set up. Still no place but it’s looking more likely she’ll have somewhere to go

I would just take her to A and E @DominaShantotto thinking sepsis, cellulitis here.

@Shodan You've gotta love our esteemed PM. WAR ON OBESITY but EVERYONE GO OUT AND EAT CHEAPLY AT RESTAURANTS.

Yep. Also:

 • Go to the pisshouses, Boris opened them up especially for you.
 • Don't play your team sports, they're too dangerous. Bollocks to that - I want my netball back!
 • Keep doing what Saint Boris says during this plandemic.

The government are swinging like a weathervane, trying to blame Witty for the spanish fiasco now.
dingit · 28/07/2020 13:38

Justasking111 we tried to rebook online but there is an on hold notice. Tried to phone but can't get through. Apparently they are prioritising key workers, but that could even be someone stacking shelves on a Saturday ( not that there's anything wrong with that).,he works in the health sector so I've told him to ask work for a letter.
But it all smacks of a government agency who can't get there act together.

Dh has half of his staff off with stress. One guy has a nice house in the country, no kids, gets paid shit loads. Ok don't know what else is going on in his life but wtf? One woman he said just needs a slap ( obviously he can't say that). Grin The one poor soul soldiering on has two kids and a wife with a brain tumour.

dingit · 28/07/2020 13:38
 • their ( hate bad spelling)
justasking111 · 28/07/2020 13:39

Well I am going to go down to the marina now and if it is not nissing it down spread my germs all over the marina pub albeit outside. If it does rain I will be stymied. Are fish infectable??

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 28/07/2020 13:41

If they don't get back to you soon I'd be thinking of doing this - or a small injury clinic if you have them locally though I'd check how they are operating first.

I was worried about cellulitis - and while the GP didn't think it likely last time I went I was given antibotics anyway, and stonger/different antihistamines and something worked.

DS has an employee who will not come back late forties no health issues just insists on working from home knowing DS is between a rock and a hard place, needs his work but needs him to answer phones talk to clients. The employee has a wife who he married recently with six kids, she runs a company rich woman so needs a babysitter. It is galling, why cant her ex step up to help or hire a bloody nanny. Told DS his employee has a hobby for self respect but on his wifes terms.
DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 14:02

Can’t do a&e till dh finishes work (he minimises everything) and he will have to take her cos of the mask thing and one parent only. Really trying to avoid that for that reason. Told they would call this afternoon and dh isn’t bothered so I’ve just got to wait it out

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 14:04

Actually having looked at the pen marks as dd is upside down in front of me conveniently - looks like it’s done down since last anti histamine dose a couple of hours ago

Mrsfrumble · 28/07/2020 14:17

Wow, I think I missed a whole thread!

I’ve been busy on some other threads though; a mask one, about how we Brits are just whiny babies who can’t be bothered to make any sacrifices for the greater good, and the one on AIBU about unnecessary car journeys, where the OP suggests making sacrifices for the greater good and is met with a resounding “FUCK YOU! How dare you? I’ll do as I please?” Ahhh, cognitive dissonance of MN!

DCs and I are booked in at the zoo tomorrow. It’s eye-wateringly expensive, but it’s a change from the park I guess.

That is an interesting point. Over and over we’re being told to stop being selfish, to wear masks to protect others, to stay at home, to make sacrifices for the greater good... as soon as someone mentions that people should use their cars less for the sake of the environment, it’s all ‘fuck off I’ll do what I want’.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/07/2020 14:29

Really pleased with your book recommendation @Orangeblossom78 and judging by recommendations for our current government on tackling obesity - it’s a best seller! 😂

NoisyBrain · 28/07/2020 14:30

@LivinLaVidaLoki looks like you'll be on Crete the same time as me then!

We fly tomorrow. During a PANDEMIC no less. Feeling slightly less stressy about the mask wearing now I've found one I can breathe in, but have to admit to being nervous about the random covid testing. Even if we don't get tested, it would really suck if someone near us on the plane tested positive & we got hauled off to quarantine Confused. Of course, according to some on MN it would serve us right for being thick, selfish and entitled enough to go on holiday.

I have also worked all the way through lockdown, at my work premises. It's an online business, but with a physical fulfilment process, so a lot of what I do requires interaction with people who are not desk-bound. I could do maybe 75% of my job from home but I'm senior management so have always felt that my presence in the office was a requirement - my boss's attitude to covid 'safety' would send the average dementor into spasms!
