Haven’t seen all the video, just the first three doctors but if you watch nothing else watch the black doctor

Bad news, ds driving test was cancelled. He got an email but it was tacked right on the bottom of their standard email that was sent to everyone saying tests were back on Angry

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 10:51

DD2's arm still red but it's now rashed up into hives so looks like it IS just an allergic reaction - GP's "seen" it at least so I'm more confident I'm not making it worse treating it at home... need to battle to get an appointment to review my antidepressants (think I need a higher dose to claw out of this pit of despair) next.

DD1's now just really challenging me from just being in a strop - think underlying it is the year group classes being swapped around, coupled with bubbles so they won't be even able to play with the kids moved to the other classes - so bloody unfair for them.

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 10:54

Insane you need the new bike money thing they are giving you £50 to fix up your bike...this evening at 10.45 or something. Have a look on the BBC..

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 10:55

Maybe you can use it for someone to come fix it or ride it to a shop perhaps.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 28/07/2020 11:00

I have poor balance possibly related to my dsypraxia so biking isn't for me.

Though DH who had done some biking to and fro work in previous years and differnet location say £50 won't go far to maintain a bike.

I'm having a down day - even stuff that we can't get to at the minute -due to public transport restictions- that is opening up sounds shit.

The open air mususm nearish by which can't travle to at the minute but was kind of hoping to - it's prebook no going in buildings and all one way - which sound awful.

We should have been on holiday and despite our best efforts feels like we are wasting our time off.

ISaySteadyOn · 28/07/2020 11:01

@dingit, poor DS. That's no good.
@DominaShantotto, I sympathise with DC being in right moods.

What I've found for going to attractions is that you need to take a bit of a leap of faith. Sure there may be annoyances around them, and signage that doesn't make sense, but the sheer delight of being able to enjoy different sensory experiences, for me very much overrides that. Particularly if they've reduced the price accordingly.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 28/07/2020 11:09

I've started getting really bad insect bite reactions.

Last time I self treated with over the counter antihistamines and when that didn't work phoned GP - they instead I had to see pharamastic first who took one look as said you need to see GP so I got a peice of paper I had to trott along to GP with to find I couldn't be seen till next day.

They have been partciularly awful last year - 4 differnet asthma reviews cancelled last minute for DS - and never managed to book one for me - kept going through process with them and never got a phone call back. 12 months overdue before the lockdown which was apaprently fine as they were short of nurses.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/07/2020 11:11

I finally managed to ride a bike at 19 Grin
(I was enthused by the experience of swimming my first length at 16!)

I'm not a natural cyclist. I can pedal, steer, change gear and brake but I just don't have the core for safely doing hand signals. I don't think it helps that I'm about the minimum size for a ladies bike, so a bit stretched out.

I can handle an off road socials so it was worth learning. However to get out of my neighbourhood safely involves lengthy extensions that negate it as an effective form of transport. There's some narrow roads with steep hills that are really not good for the nervous!

The ones we've looked at seem to have all used this as an excuse to put the price further UP, and not reduced.

In contrast - I remember we went to Longleat in the middle of food and mouth and because certain areas weren't available in the safari park - we got a completely free full return when things were fully available; likewise we were at Alton Towers when it reopened just after the Smiler crash (OK we're probably cursed but it was a long-standing booking) and got free returns as one sector of the park wasn't open yet.

In contrast Covid seems to have been a chance to gouge gouge gouge and screw everyone more. At one point swimming lessons were on about taking 1/3 off the lesson durations and charging 1/3 more for the privilege and that's just the example that comes to mind off the top of my head.

dingit · 28/07/2020 11:18

They cancelled to prioritise people that had had cancellations because of lockdown. But so did he from April. The government agencies are a bunch of fuckwits. He can’t rebook online as it’s blocked, and it’s an hour queue to speak with someone 😡

Sorry I'm really pissed if for him Sad

Problem is is costs us money to get places before we go - when they do finally allow us to travel by public transport in Wales again.

I think we are going to walk to the next town over in next week - the city farm there still isn't open and there's not much else bar the shops but it would be a change of scene which I think is what I need.

I was hopefull transport restrictions would lift before the end of summer so we could get to nearby cities or beaches though as it gets closer to September and schools going back think we'll be increasingly reluctant to go places in case there are repercussions for starting back at school.

I should be more postive I guess and think of more fun things we can all be doing.

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 11:24

Oh great - just read THIS one buried in my uni's website.

To ensure that we are able to deliver a safe learning and teaching environment, you will be required to wear a face mask during face-to-face teaching sessions. We have taken this decision because it will enable us to deliver as much face-to-face teaching as is possible in line with social distancing guidelines.

All students will be provided with two re-usable face masks. It is important that you always bring your face mask when you come to campus as it is your responsibility to protect yourself and others from the further transmission of COVID-19.

THAT little can of worms hasn't been announced to students yet.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/07/2020 11:26

Yep, prices have gone up here too to pay for the ‘additional safety measures’. It’s a bit galling to pay more for a worse experience, I have to say. I’m trying to suck it up (because otherwise we all sit at home being miserable) but I’m just not finding much pleasure in it all at the moment.
I think it’s harder due to the 18 month old. He can’t follow one way systems or stay away from people, so I have to keep him in the pushchair, which he hates. So it means I’m just stressed dealing with him all day.
Sorry that was a moan. Feeling really shit about it all today. I want my 6 and 5 year olds to have a decent summer holiday but so far we’re failing.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/07/2020 11:43

I should say I don’t really blame them for putting prices up as they’re having to operate at reduced capacity and need to cover costs somehow. I’m just not keen on spending more for what ends up being a stressful day for me.

DominaShantotto · 28/07/2020 11:50

Just let the uni course cohort know about masks in lectures - waiting for the holier than thou one who loves sticking the boot in for me to have a pop now.

Set your clocks ladies.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/07/2020 11:58

I've booked the local farm for tomorrow. If the going is looking good, it's walkable.

They specialise in icecream Grin

They were very quick to diversify at lockdown and have sucessfully worked with other local suppliers to launch grocery boxes which have become very popular, which will continue long term.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/07/2020 12:06

I’m just back from town and visited two independent shops. The first is a hardware shop - you’re not even allowed in. There’s a table blocking the door and they quiver at the back of the shop. I won’t be back.

The second is a nail bar owned by a young girl in her 20s that’s not been open a year. Forgot to put my mask on and went in. She was lovely and friendly and is booked to the rafters (! So no guilt). I will definitely use her even though nails aren’t my “thing”.

I cycled home from the repair shop last time and missed the shortcut so it was 7 miles of hills. 😂

£50 would hopefully grease some palms.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/07/2020 12:13

@BogRollBOGOF my local farm shop has done boxes which they deliver. My god the stuff is good - but it’s pricey. It’ll be a regular treat I think.

ISaySteadyOn · 28/07/2020 12:13

@Drivingdownthe101, moans are definitely allowed. We are all justified I having any moans we like. And it is hard for mothers of young children.

I just had a really nice shopping experience for food. No dementoring, nice chat, no one cared at all about masks. I spent more there because I felt welcome. So new business to support Smile. I like finding local businesses that are good so my day is improving.

We went last week!

torydeathdrug · 28/07/2020 12:28

Yeah we’ve been in the real minority wrt to working - and I can’t begin to say how lucky we feel that dh’s job has survived - family & friends are mostly hospitality/arts/fitness ... it has been/is awfully worrying for them but they’ve pretty much forgotten what it’s like to have work demands! Dh hasn’t been allowed to have any holiday (he booked a day emergency leave when I completely lost my shit a few weeks ago & today for the kids) - he’s burning out.
