Oh it's all utter bollocks and I'm so sorry for everyone whose plans are now scuppered. We have lost a LOT in all this, including our main breadwinner's job, but I just wanted to say (again) that I won't comply with any further restrictions. We have lost thousands of pounds already, our reassurance about the future because our main bread winner's job is dust, our daughter's certainty about her education trajectory, possibly my elderly mother's independence, but no more.

That's it. I'm not doing any more lockdowns or restrictions. No. Fuck off. Ive got no more reserves of strength and no more goodwill left. Absolutely done. Don't show me any more spurious graphs. Don't tell me I'm 'not Allowed'. This is a western democracy, we elected you, I voted for you myself and I wanted innovative thinking from you, not desperate wank-think. If there are no more ideas on the table and we have to live with this now, just have the balls to say so, I'd respect that much more than this nonsense

Yeah, what she said 👆

@countrygirl a springer by any chance? Gotta be allowed a pigeon.

Poor 🐦

littlbrowndog · 31/07/2020 21:38

👆me too what she said so fucked off by all this utter shite

RobinHobb · 31/07/2020 21:39

@ISaySteadyOn

I can't think at all atm. *@RobinHobb*, I am a SAHM by choice but I made that decision under different circumstances. I feel similar. I was just starting to consider doing something else when this happened.

I consider myself to be a feminist and so many of these roolz impact mainly on mothers that I think it's important to note. But I am not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

No constructive thoughts I am afraid My only idea or plan is to go get a job to restore some financial independence, and some sanity. Not sure if that's feasible at all though!
RobinHobb · 31/07/2020 21:44

@Drivingdownthe101

This is actually a great plan - maybe I'll try and get a key worker role too, in a supermarket or something! I bet all the rules will have changed by then though.

I'm updating my CV now. Every time I do this I start thinking how will I leave my 2yo ALL DAY alone with a stranger, will she be ok, she'll miss me so much, who's going to sing her favourite songs to her etc etc and then I dissolve in puddle of maternal guilt and love. I gotta work in this (I don't feel this way at all about my 4yo, though I used to when she was 2yo, so maybe I'll grow out of it)

No solutions

IAintentDead · 31/07/2020 21:45

@countrygirl99

I decided to have an early night due to excessive wine consumption. I can hear Dh downstairs telling g one of the dogs off for walking into the house with a pigeon.
It could have been worse

funny

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 31/07/2020 21:45

No no no no fucking no.

Put your damned mask on, stay at home and grow some tatties.

We’ll shut the borders, the schools and the social gatherings.

Why am I feeling like a 1970’s Afghan woman? 😒

TheOrchidKiller · 31/07/2020 21:51

@DominaShantotto you're a good mum. I hope you find the time apart from your kids helpful. There is nothing wrong with having a break from them. I know your course is hard work, I did it myself without children. Been qualified 28 years now. I have forgotten pretty much all my phonetics now so if we both take that exam you will pass, I won't!

Have watched Car Share with DS. I've also calmly explained why I feel like I do about all of this & he seems to have listened.

We had a storm & rain here but it's still hot. Also having bloody hot flushes. Nice.

Oh yeah, I second what Allflights said.

Dowser · 31/07/2020 21:53

This is from fb
Us for them england
Calling all teachers

So, Guys! I had a mini brainwave in the wee small hours while surfing FB re UsForThem stuff... and, via the link on our group page, went onto the NASWUT FB page where the post had been put about pushing government for face masks in schools, and systematically went down ALL the comments section and after every person who supported NOT having masks made mandatory and objected to the idea, put a lovely polite and friendly request that they considered visiting the UsForThem website and FB Group page, and left a website link to the website campaign page.... I got to about my 50+th ‘reply’ post before obviously their admin cottoned onto me and starting preventing me from leaving anymore (probably now pegged as an NASWUT troll!😂)... BUT hopefully that’s 50+ likeminded teaching professionals who would potentially approach us and be supportive of our work... I feel that a teaching professional who is opposed to these dreadful Teaching Union suggestions is a really valuable ally and member! Can I suggest that this is one way we actively increase our membership? If every one of us did this, if we are already 2,500 and we each managed to reach out to 50+ teaching professionals, that’d be... god it’s late!... well, that’s seems like it would be a LOT. Can we get organised...? I did it with one FB post, not even twitter. Maybe think of it as the social media equivalent of targeted leafleting... 😉💕 thoughts, people...? x

Dowser · 31/07/2020 21:56

@RobinHobb
Kids eh?
When my daughter was about two, I was reading her a story and when I finished
She said mummy, you can have this book when I’m dead
😱😱😱
Cue me sobbing my eyes out when she was in bed

Thankfully she’s 43 now and still with us.

And breathe...fresh oxygen

Dowser · 31/07/2020 22:00

@Allflightscancelled

Well said .
Wankthink, I love it
Wankthink from Mat-twatter wanksock.

I’ve been done with this for months..like March 23
First thing to do is get rid of the face nappies

One of the conditions that makes you exempt from wearing them is anxiety

Show me one person who isn’t anxious right now and I’ll show you a liar.

BogRollBOGOF · 31/07/2020 22:02

DS said a couple of days ago that when he's grown up. He'll keep all his teddies and talk to them like I do with mine Grin
(Sometimes it's the only way to get any sensible conversation out of anyone Wink )

RobinHobb · 31/07/2020 22:02

@Dowser
Lol!
Mine told me I was her "bess friend" yesterday (cue tears when she was in bed). The poor little love hasn't been in nursery since March, has no idea and is watching her big sister on play dates with her friends having a great time.
I can't wait for mine to be 43 so I don't have to worry about them all the bloody time!

TheOrchidKiller · 31/07/2020 22:21

I'm 49 & am still a source of worry, apparently.

Thisdressneedspockets · 31/07/2020 23:07

@Ibake

Yeah, what she said 👆
Same here. I'm not complying. I'm giving the appearance of complying, but I'm not.

I'll go back to lurking now Blush

IAintentDead · 31/07/2020 23:35

I'm re reading a Terry Pratchett Discworld book.

The book is "The Monstrous Regiment" (and the extract is about an evolving religion)

"These commandments are dumb , and any farmer can see that. I imagine people go along with the as best they can, but sooner or later you have to break them and feel guilty, or keep them and suffer. - For no reason sir"

Wonderful author, very perceptive writing. I wonder what he would make of covid.
mightbealittlebitmad · 31/07/2020 23:40

God it's so frustrating. I finally feel like things are getting better then they threaten to either take my child's school away or the pubs i.e. my job. I stayed at home for weeks, didn't see anyone despite me suffering, gave everything up and it's still not good enough?!

They can lockdown all they want, I'll be seeing my friends and family. I'm a bit worried now, supposed to be seeing my mum in North Yorkshire in a couple of weeks and am worried one of us will be placed on lockdown with hefty fines for travelling making it impossible. I'm Midlands based so it's straight up the busy M1 where my parents were stopped early on by the police asking where they were going.

shinynewapple2020 · 31/07/2020 23:48

@countrygirl99

We've decided to camp in the garden tomorrow night. DH will put a recording of African animal sounds on his phone so we can pretend we are on safari.

Love this Smile

PickAChew · 01/08/2020 00:05

@BogRollBOGOF

DH was a 6ft whippet until he was 30. I'm expecting whippets taller than me by 12... and exponential increases in appetite... They were the kind of whippet puppies that initatated weaning before the guidelines for age by pilfering food off our plates and eating it, and at 1 could demolish a child's meal when out. DM found it incredible that they could demolish corn on the cob with so few teeth Grin

I'm glad I didn't get my hopes up about swimming. I'd love to go for a swim and there's no logistical reason why I can't other than it being shitty to go when the opportunities to take the DCs are so dire.
They must be skimping on staff to man one pool area at a time looking at it because there is no reason from a distancing point of view why you can't use the training pool at the same time as the main area.

But why so late in the day??? Mine are night owls so that's not too much of a problem, but why have sessions 17:00 to 19:00 and nothing earlier in the day? Why not swap the adult lanes with the family times in the early afternoon so that families find it practical?

I could do the evening, and pay the price, but going at 6pm means that it's not the main energy burn of the day and they need to be managed until that point IYSWIM. It doesn't break the day up so loses some of the point.

Ds2 is currently at the whippet phase. I can't spoon the calories into him fast enough without tons of fat. DS1 was also a whippet at 14 but is now more of a snorlax. He used to be alarmingly hyperactive but now hardly moves.

DH has the whippet build but middle age spread means there is now a bit of a belly in the middle of it. We have the same bmi of 25, ffs, but while he is a racing snake after a good meal, I'm just bloody dumpy.

PickAChew · 01/08/2020 00:12

I followed that thunderstorm through North Yorkshire on lightning maps. It reached ilus just before 9 then at 9:30-ish, struck the east coast mainline (very) near us in 3 places and then stopped completely. I thought the website might have stopped reporting but the one through Hull and East Yorkshire, running parallel, was still very active.

That house fire in Haxby looks awful.

HeIenaDove · 01/08/2020 01:31

Just caught up with the press conference. Heard Johnson say there will be a higher police presence to police the wearing of face masks.
I played that bit twice just to make sure i heard right.

HeIenaDove · 01/08/2020 01:34

If it is successful, senior government sources say, it could become a model for other regional — or even a national — lockdown in the winter when internal projections suggest there is likely to be another spike in cases

Good luck implementing that at Christmas.
