Another boring, non-spontaneous Saturday. Yawn. And then tomorrow we have to spend the whole day driving to the place we went on holiday last week, and then back again, because DH left his phone there and we must collect it. I was tempted to send him by himself but it's such a long time in the car he'll need some company to stay alert.

It'll all take so long we won't even get to go on the beach.

Boring, boring, boring.

ButterMeCrumpets · 01/08/2020 09:32

Yeah we’re away now and have cancelled all the museums/indoor attractions we were planning. There’s just no point. It’ll just be parks/beaches/coastal walks etc for us. Decided to plough any cash we’re saving into overpaying the mortgage instead for when the inevitable financial shit storm hits.

I keep reminding myself that actually from a selfish point of view the restrictions mean more money saved. And yes the same thing more walks will be good for us and DH and I are trying to get fitter.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/08/2020 09:32

Please can we ignore the troll who obviously has zero understanding if anything much.

Allflightscancelled · 01/08/2020 09:37

And I see we've attracted a visitor to the thread who wants to try and provoke a row. Please let's not rise to the bait.

ISaySteadyOn · 01/08/2020 09:42

Wasn't planning on it. Here is something I learned today: baby owls sleep on their tummies cos their heads are too big. How adorable is that?

Headline in the BBC news today is 'more than 2m vulnerable can now leave their homes for the first time since lockdown began'. Infuriating. As if it's the law, and it's morally (or even practically) right and possible to force people to stay in. It was guidance only, and should be represented as such.

I hate the way people keep saying they 'aren't allowed'. Because that's such insidious wrong thinking. Of course we're allowed.

MaxNormal · 01/08/2020 09:45

It looks like it's had a night on the gin.

Littlebelina · 01/08/2020 09:45

Makes a change for someone not to accuse all of us of being Brexiteers I suppose....

Allflightscancelled · 01/08/2020 09:45

Ooh the owl thing is very sweet. The big, bobbly headed bundles of lovely fluffiness

Allflightscancelled · 01/08/2020 09:47

Is that owl asleep? It looks dead

countrygirl99 · 01/08/2020 09:47

Well, social distancing had well and truly gone out of the window at gbe supermarket this morning. Before compulsory masks there was the odd person getting close (usually mask wearing). It was like pretty covid this morning other than the masks.

Allflightscancelled · 01/08/2020 09:47

Sadly dead of course

BogRollBOGOF · 01/08/2020 09:50

I've requested that DH takes the DCs out for a few hours so I can make some attempt at reclaiming the house from the forces of chaos.

Looking forwards to jamming on some music without annoying anyone Grin

I don't think I've had more than an hour to myself in 4 months.

They're not high maintainence children, but they are just there!

Bollss · 01/08/2020 09:50

@larrygrylls

These threads are a bit like anti vaccine threads, although I am sure many won’t like the comparison.

The denial of the science at the same time as sheltering under the herd immunity (most people being sensible), the mocking of dead people (‘ the ‘sadly’ dead’) and the idea that society having to work together to combat a disease threat is being joyless and stupid.

I am sure a fair few people calling our medical experts (and they are real experts with multiple scientific degrees) ‘dementors’ are the same people who mocked brexiteers for not listening to the ‘experts’ (the vast majority being economists whose predictions have minimal (if any) value).

Perhaps you'd like to go back through all read all the threads because you've got us all wrong.
wanderings · 01/08/2020 09:50

@Blobby10 Totally agree. This will go down as the biggest overreaction in history, like Bliar's response to the mythical weapons of mass destruction. He had to play with his toys and have a war, and Boris had to play with his toys (the people, like toy soldiers) and have a lockdown, while pretending he didn't want one, to appear to be on our side.

If it is successful, senior government sources say, it could become a model for other regional — or even a national — lockdown in the winter when internal projections suggest there is likely to be another spike in cases.
What does "successful" mean? Successful in reducing infections, or successful in people obeying it? If the latter, that is why I am wary of too much compliance: if we're docile and compliant with everything Boris the "squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze the brakes" clown throws at us, they'll mess with our heads more.

ButterMeCrumpets · 01/08/2020 09:52

OMG that owl looks bizarre Grin

Willow2017 · 01/08/2020 09:52

I didn't know that eirher till i read that thread Isay. 😄so cute.

We are off to visit my aunt today. Lots of home made scones and cake awaits us. 😁 SD indoors will be weird but bearable just so we get to see her but miracle might happen and sun might shine so we can all sit outside. Fingers crossed.

Bollss · 01/08/2020 09:53

@MaxNormal

It looks like it's had a night on the gin.
That owl looks how I feel
BogRollBOGOF · 01/08/2020 09:56

@MaxNormal

It looks like it's had a night on the gin.
That's what Brown Owl's sneaky top ups of the wine or home measures of gin do to the rest of the Owls on the Brownie Leader team.

This is strongly associated with the majority of my incidences of drunkeness Grin

I think we may have a theme for our next thread developing.

MaxNormal · 01/08/2020 09:57

Allflightscancelled only sadly if it died of covid Grin

DominaShantotto · 01/08/2020 09:59

I’m at the hairdressers again for my now back to regular root retouch- May get coloured streaks through it again too.

They’re as peed off as I am with it all

TheOrchidKiller · 01/08/2020 10:01

Larrygrylls

Not an anti-vaxxer.
Not mocking people who have died at all.
Not denying the science.

You cannot compare a pandemic with Brexit, it's like comparing apples with pears.
Much of society does feel joyless right now, & it's allowed to say that.
Being an expert & having multiple degrees does not make a person immune to getting things wrong, & that includes making decisions that have a negative impact on multiple parts of multiple lives.

NothingIsWrong · 01/08/2020 10:02

My children are home from two weeks in Wales. So good to have cuddles again. Took the boy for a long walk this morning, ended up being out for 2 hours and we got Costa half way round. Semi normal.

I'm just desperate for schools to open again. We have a new classroom being built, starting 17th August, so we can increase our numbers and stay financially viable. I hope I haven't put all the effort into the design, quotes, planning permission, funding, etc for it to be no use whatsoever. We are an academy so this is self funded with some support from our MAT, hence governors (me) have done all the work.

incognitomum · 01/08/2020 10:05

Allflightscancelled can't they post the phone Express delivery?
