On Newsnight in ten minutes.

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 22:41

Wanksock is out of his fucking mind.

TheOrchidKiller · 30/07/2020 22:41

Can you imagine the outcry if they announced a local lockdown in the Cotswolds on 24 December?

I'm a bit angry now, going to log off & try to calm down before bed or I won't sleep again.

PickAChew · 30/07/2020 22:43

I've sent a sample of the Chrysalids to my kindle. I need some new bedtime reading.

Trigger warning thread needs this.

Forecast to be disgustingly hot here, tomorrow so I will be doing very little because when it's 29C, I simply can't. . Social worker is finally allowed to visit and will be greeted by piles of laundry in various states of processing - have had the tumble dryer on the go as fast as Ds2 let's me wash the stuff, today, so lots of piles of folded stuff waiting to be put away. Have also just done a load of bedding to hang out, first thing.

Friends in Calderdale with older relatives are in bits nanny and grandad missed them so much during lockdown. They have been so careful themselves, working from home, not seeing family until recently, only sat outside pubs for a meal in the last week, and for what, it is such a bloody mess. Many of their family are in the NHS, hospitals and dentistry.

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 22:53

31c here tommorrow. Wonder how that will affect mask wearing.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 22:54

So apparently two households can't "meet" in the pub either. Er..what? So, the pub can only have one family at a time in it? Or are we being incredibly specific on the meaning of the word "meet"? As if it wasn't already fucking complicated enough.

AgentCooper · 30/07/2020 23:04

Aargh I’m getting pissed off with dementoring on our playgroup group chat. Everyone is trying to pitch in with ideas that will allow the church whose hall we use to let us open up again, because we’re all desperate to have somewhere to take the wee ones, especially over winter. It’s been fucking raining all the time here anyway so the thought of winter feels very grim.

This one person is a childminder who takes her mindees to the group, and is saying we probably won’t/shouldn’t be able to open until 2021, that we’ll need to deep clean the entire church hall after every use and individually wash each toy then wipe with anti bac wipes. And I’m thinking, we bring our own drinks and snacks, we minimise the number of toys and bung everything we can in sterilising fluid, we’ll manage. The toddlers won’t even give a shit if there are toys, they’ll just want to chase each other about. We just desperately need somewhere indoors to take them in winter.

No disrespect to childminders (I would not have the stamina or patience myself) but this woman gets to give the kids back at the end of the day! The rest of us have them all day and all night and that wee group is a lifeline, especially when it’s pissing it down in horizontal wind as it did every fucking day last winter. I hate all this countering of positive, sensible suggestions with DOOM.

justasking111 · 30/07/2020 23:08

Where I live N Wales is a magnet for Manchester day trips, and stays. Hope Drakeford wont have a wobble tomorrow and put a block on our restaurants and hotels re-opening on Monday.

It is unenforceable anyway imo. those that want to will crack on as some did during a much more stringent lockdown. Folk will just look at the low death rates and shrug.

Well today trudging up a steep hill both DIL and I were very damp by the time we got to the beer garden. In a mask we would have given up I couldn`t speak for a minute was so out of breath.
BellaintheWychElm · 30/07/2020 23:10

@dowser hope your ok after your amazon issue and ignore the idiots on that thread......

IAintentDead · 30/07/2020 23:36

@Orangeblossom78

Look for the post with a Trigger Warning...and other dramatic posts
But only if you want the situation mansplained to you AND accept that any disagreement it because 'you don't understand --- let me explain it again'.

The restrictions are SO about Eid but i absolutely DO think they would do the same at 10pm on Christmas Eve, AFTER money would have already been spent on presents, food etc.

People will have already spent money on ingredients and spent all tonight cooking.................THATS why the announcement is late. After the money has been spent and is in the economy...........they dont give a shit whether its Eid or Christmas!!

And you know what. If you are going to put restrictions back on an area you get yourself on screen at a decent time with the reasons and evidence why. You dont tweet it (and if they think most people are on twitter we fave a problem)
MagdaS · 30/07/2020 23:58

Our Borough is in the restrictions and the increase is nothing to do with the BAME population and instead being caused by rich white kids having massive house parties in massive houses. The spike is in 17-23 year olds. We know what is causing the spike because Public Health are talking to people who are testing positive.

I am deeply unhappy about further restrictions, particularly if they extend to my hard fought for return to the office a few days a week.

@Theluggage15

Hello all. I only post occasionally but read every day. I was on a Trigger thread last night. Not sure how I got there as I usually avoid that topic! What really annoys me is that he says he’s a scientist working on a treatment. I asked my brother who is a scientist to show the threads to one of his scientist mates who works in virology. He said by looking at the language he uses etc. and what he says about virology, if Trigger is a scientist then he’s the Queen, I was pointing this out because he posts the doom with an air of authority

Unfortunately I was attacked by his cheerleaders including the queen cheerleader who accused me of making stuff up! (Oh the irony) but at least I made my point so felt good!!

I didn't dare post and that is unlike me.

I wrote a post about 6 times but I knew it would get deleted as he is reporting every post that attacks his delicate male (mansplaining) ego. So I gave up.

Love your name ---- Terry would not be a (one of them)

HeIenaDove · 31/07/2020 00:04

@BellaintheWychElm I TOTALLY agree. Elderly people/poorer people who dont have the internet wouldnt have seen it

And i think social media has made politicians and their ilk very lazy.

Allflightscancelled · 31/07/2020 00:05

If I'd spent my money on a completely legit celebration, then Wanksock announced it was cancelled at the 11th hour, I'd totally ignore him. And I hope everyone looking forward to Eid does too.

HeIenaDove · 31/07/2020 00:07

There are people on another thread who want the Army brought in.

Do they think Years and Years was a manual.

HeIenaDove · 31/07/2020 01:06

Remember the cashless bakery i linked earlier this week?

Well get a load of this

110APiccadilly · 31/07/2020 06:04

Going to be terrible for community cohesion, but I do agree they'd have done exactly the same thing Christmas Eve. I'm not sure it is racist by design, just standard level incompetence I suspect. I also think compliance will be low.

It's also beyond cruel. People have plans and lives. This sort of toying with them is insane.

MagdaS · 31/07/2020 07:03

Yup. People do have plans and lives. I was going to meet my new niece for the first time next week. She’ll be 5 months old. That’s now illegal.

MagdaS · 31/07/2020 07:06

And for complicated reasons I won’t bore you with, if I don’t meet my niece next week, there’s a pretty good chance it could be October or Christmas before I do. We live 4 hours apart.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 31/07/2020 07:15

Saw this on another thread yesterday, a reasonable explanation of the increase in cases.

Allflightscancelled · 31/07/2020 07:18

@110APiccadilly I also think compliance will be low. And getting lower every time this happens. People can't do it any more. And the more the government keep telling people they 'aren't allowed' to do totally reasonable things, the lower compliance will be. We're not 3 year olds who've been a bit naughty at nursery FFS. And we all resent being spoken to as though we are
