Also I wonder if Trump suddenly wheeling out the ever-versatile "cos Covid" explanation to keep his fat arse in the White House will give some people pause for thought.

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 21:59

I think Leicester is at the point it can’t take much more without people rebelling completely and their police were one bragging a lot about enforcing staying at home on Twitter in the early lockdown.

I don’t know about letting the kids go to my parents tomorrow. They’re in the NE of England but I’m scared the kids will get trapped up there in a flash lockdown the way they seem to be going after the north of England.

I really need the break though - I’m in total anxiety and sensory burnout

Hi Matt, the City of Leicester have been waiting all day for a specific announcement. I haven’t seen my family in eight months. Would it be too much to ask for you to provide some clarification?

Shock that is awful. What is his fucking agenda? I doubt he actually has real people in mind.

I have my doubts that any of the people who do this care about anything more than political point scoring. And I know I have said it before and referenced pp but this is very bad for women specific ally mothers. I don't see anyone advocating for us and if we advocate for ourselves we are accused of being selfish and not caring about our children.

I am sick to death of all of this. I wish to take my chances and live my life again. In all honesty, the main thing keeping me going is my family (DH and the DC). If I didn't have them, I don't know where I would be.

That's an interesting restriction - it seems just to be stopping people going inside other people's houses, so not closing down unessential shops/pubs/restaurants etc - so very targeted.

Hancock isn't also being v clear (what a surprise) about whether Leicester remains in lockdown or whether it just now has that particular restriction, which would be a bit of an improvement.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 22:04

Leicester was, literally, a foot note. I can't get over how awfully this has been communicated.

I can't believe they really think this will make a difference. If it really is caused by people mixing households and not social distancing (which seems an oddly specific and bold statement to make), does he really think those same households are now going to retreat to the garden because he told them to on Twitter?
DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 22:09

I think the blaming tone, barely couched at certain ethnic groups is going to stir up race wars no end as well. Already seeing Leicester where people are blaming the Asian community for lockdown continued and it just feels very very tense.

I'm telling you right now that's why calderdale is under restrictions. It's thinly veiled racism.

Yes I'm from Leicestershire and the horrible racism all over social medial and people actually voicing it in real life as well was awful
TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 22:15

Oh bloody hell, it's Eid tomorrow, isn't it?

Allflightscancelled · 30/07/2020 22:17

This way of talking to people as if we're naughty kids is really pissing me off. And the delusion that everyone is going to stop seeing friends because they say so is laughable. When we have spent so much time already trying to flatten the curve and now they've moved the goalposts with no explanation at all. And when all the new pronouncements make no sense at all. The lack of respect for people and their lives is disgraceful.

I feel so sorry for all these people affected.

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 22:17

Yep - this is all just absolute prime fodder for the Britain First lot plus no doubt other counterparts.

Well once they’ve all finished trying to work out which bits count as Greater Manchester

torydeathdrug · 30/07/2020 22:19

yup Eid tomorrow :( we're back to shop your neighbour (how else can they hope to enforced it) - disastrous for social cohesion before you start considering the race issues.

Bollss · 30/07/2020 22:20

Yep. Eid tomorrow. What a fucking coincidence.

MaxNormal · 30/07/2020 22:20

Oh bloody hell, it's Eid tomorrow, isn't it?

Yes it is. And now we have this bizarrely targetted "lockdown" of pubs being allowed but no visiting houses. I wonder who the could possibly be aiming that at?
Grim.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 22:21

So, let me just get this straight in my head. Matt Hancock just cancelled people's Eid celebrations, the night before, on Twitter. Yeah, that's going to go well.

SomewhereEast · 30/07/2020 22:25

I think Leicester will still officially be 'in lockdown' in 2035 just because no one ever remembered to lift the restrictions, much as Berwick-on-Tweed is still theoretically at war with Tsarist Russia or whatever.

Ibake · 30/07/2020 22:26

Evening all. Just back from a day out. @DominaShantotto I fear you are right. When the Blackburn numbers were going up I saw some comments on various media outlets which basically all said variations of the same 'I don't see why we should be locked up just because they can't follow the rules' Really, really worrying.

Last thing we need are racial tensions running even higher because racist wankers feel free to spew their hatred thinly disguised as fake Covid concern. Cannot bear to think that a them and us divide really starts to gain ground. At least the outright racists a la Tommy Robinson are loud and proud and don't even pretend to hide behind any level of respectability, so we know who they are and where they are. I'm more concerned about the next layer down eg Daily Mail readers, who exist in far greater numbers, pretend that they're not really racist but would seize an opportunity like this to legitimise their views.

Anyone see Years and Years? I've thought about it a lot over the past 5 months. Didn't take society long to start stigmatising and blaming minority groups then did it?

I don't get the reasoning behind banning people from going to other houses but not restaurants. People will visit family, quite often they need to, to provide care & support, not merely because they just fancy it (although there's nothing wrong with that either).

This way of talking to people as if we're naughty kids is really pissing me off.

Me too, so, so much. I hated being treated like this at school, I hate it even more so now.

They can all bugger off now to Barnard Castle (don't tell me that twat hasn't got a hand in all this).

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 22:31

Anybody who has got childcare plans with a relative tomorrow is fucked now too.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 30/07/2020 22:35

I think childcare is exempt?

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 22:37

Course it is. They're just targeting Eid. Fcking hell, I need more wine.
