Life is pretty busy so I have limited time to Mumsnet and I prefer to spend it in happy places. I do get tempted to read other threads but am very quickly reminded how awful a lot of the site particularly that part which posts on the Covid threads are and retreat back to my safe haven.

In fact after 5 months of hysteria I am now at the point where it washes over me. Its the boy who cried wolf. I can't take it seriously anymore. Yes this is a nasty virus but really the exageration and the misinformation. I've had enough of it.

This is how I feel. I feel like if they told us tomorrow that, I dunno it's mutated and the risk has massively increased, I'd go yeah, alright then, roll my eyes and get on with my day.
DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 21:25

Lockdown increased in various areas - they’re going to be second waving all over now. Poor Leicester still locked up - can see the people I know they’re sinking into further despair

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 21:28

The tone of the statement is pretty chilling as well - you guys have misbehaved so we are going to lock you up

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 21:30

Does anyone else feel dehumanized or is it just me.

BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 21:30

Bugger meant to be visiting family in West Yorkshire. Has anyone got a link?

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 21:31

He announced it in Twitter of all things

SomewhereEast · 30/07/2020 21:31

Just want to send sympathy to all those struggling. We're doing pretty well at the moment, but I think our part of the world (Yorkshire - near the coast) is pretty AD & the weather's at least staying mostly dry. We've had some good days out locally & a lot of our outdoor attractions have opened as normally as possible (playgrounds!!!). We went to Scarborough a few days ago and it was just really normal (and rammed).

Oh FFS. Poor Leicester. This isn't sustainable

You are not alone. I am becoming more libertarian and anti authoritarian by the day.
BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 21:36

It looks like my families town isn't on the list.

But OMG this sucks and what a garbage way this is being announced and handled.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 21:37

Twitter? Seriously, fuck off. Who does he think he is, Donald Trump?

Bollss · 30/07/2020 21:40

Well apparently were not allowed to visit anyone inside from midnight tonight. Fuck Matt Hancock and everything he stands for.

BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 21:40

Bad news day for the govt with seriously poor excess death stats from ONS. And an increase in infections. Is this a distraction do you think? To stop folks asking the very reasonable questions that they don't want to answer.

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 21:41

Lots of the north now locked up now, and blaming them for it as well.
I could see this boiling over into unrest fairly soon

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 21:44

Domina i think there will be unrest too.

@TrustTheGeneGenie sorry to hear you are affected.................how the fuck does he know its due to households mixing.

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 21:45

Im down in North Essex so not personally affected...........yet.

But this REEKS for those that are affected.

I wonder about this. We're so compliant, at what point does it snap?

Hi Matt, the City of Leicester have been waiting all day for a specific announcement. I haven’t seen my family in eight months. Would it be too much to ask for you to provide some clarification?

More fool them, watching official outlets for the announcement. They should have been stalking twitter.

I mean, what next, Facebook? Did he go home and, mid glass of wine, think, shit, I forgot to make that announcement I said I'd do? Ah well, can't be bother to log on, let's go with Twitter. Now, how can I cut this statement down so it doesn't comprise of too many individual tweets...

SomewhereEast · 30/07/2020 21:56

I'm normally a boring left-of-centre person (think the kind of person who breathed a sigh of relief when Keir Starmer got the Labour leadership), but I'm beginning to be quite worried by this creeping authoritarianism. We've handed the government almost unprecedented powers over every aspect of our lives, and its a general rule that no one willingly hands back any power they're given. I'm angry that the people who spoke up for civil liberties & offered nuanced responses to popular panic during the so-called War on Terror are now AWOL or worse in the War on Covid. Now we have leaders in liberal democracies threatening millions of grown adults with the lockdown naughty step. I don't think those leaders are budding authoritarians - mostly I just think they're terrified & out of their depth & desparate to pretend they're in control of events (take a bow Mark Wanksock), but I hate the precedents we're establishing now. Left-liberal types are very fucking niave if they think this couldn't be turned on them in ten years' time.

Allflightscancelled · 30/07/2020 21:58

Hello all. I've been on holiday and missed a couple of threads. But whoever just said there would be unrest soon - I think I may actually lead the charge. And god knows I've been a law abiding citizen so far in my life. But this just fucking sucks.
