Should have said as well that said friend works at a massive secondary in Leicester!

And the award for enterprising marketing goes to...

I'm scrolling Twitter on the Leicester Lockdown hashtag as there was a rumour they'd be an announcement at 8ish (which ain't happening now really) and a counselling company has posted with their location and the comment that "we're all going to need anger management sessions soon at this rate"

Heard East Midlands Tonight news earlier & presenter saying something about "tempers flaring in Leicester" over lockdown. Can't blame them.

Weather is meant to be hot here tomorrow. I predict large amounts of flocking to beauty spots/Skeggy, anywhere with an outside space for drinking alcohol to be packed, & people fainting because they're not drinking enough water, masks or not. Dementor Alert!

Bought something from Pret today. The staff are now wearing masks, as well as standing behind screens. Customers wearing masks. No one could hear each other. Manager has taken to exaggerated miming & pointing to ask what you want & are you eating in or taking it away. It was like being in an episode of Give Us A Clue/ Mr.Tumble, had either Lionel Blair or Justin Whatshisname had a hipster beard & a lot of tattoos. We had a good laugh. I tried to mime, "this is crackers!" as I left.

@Willow2017

Oooh it's a long time since I read 'The Chrysalids' might need to hunt it out.
I can barely remember anything about it. Will be re-reading it now!
Willow2017 · 30/07/2020 20:47

I have reread Wyndham as an adult. I think he stands the test of time. And perhaps even more from my naice middle class life I find "The Day of the Triffids" chilling.
Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:48

That's only going to happen more often if there are more local lockdowns...

will try and actually find the scottish wording from today.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 20:49

@Orangeblossom78

Anyone else like the Rats of NIMBH? or is that just me...
I bought that for ds1 when he was 6 months old, for when he was old enough :) It's been on his bookshelf ever since, he's nearly 6, we're getting closer!
DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 20:50

Oh yeah and elasticised mask pinging will be a fun sport in schools too.

Teenagers gonna teenage

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:50

Not the exact paragraph I read but here...

Guidance issued to councils says physical distancing will not be enforced between pupils, although secondary schools will be expected to adjust the layout of classrooms and the flow in corridors "where possible" to encourage older children to keep apart.
Teachers will be expected to maintain a 2m (6ft 6in) distance where possible, but the wearing of face coverings will not be enforced, with this "left to the judgement of individuals".

It's going to be bad enough on the buses to school without having it in the classroom too...

I am buying loads of spare masks in anticipation of loads going walkies.

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 20:54

Oh yeah and statement masks to thwart uniform guidelines, rude masks, scary masks to terrify the new year 7s. And “can’t come in I ain’t got my mask miss” or wiping your mask on your mate.

Why would you want this in school if you have any clue how kids try it on?!

According to a CD (Chief Dementor) on another thread ‘if any of my students behave like that I’ll send them home for you to deal with as their parent’. Because it’s that simple Hmm

Hello all. I only post occasionally but read every day. I was on a Trigger thread last night. Not sure how I got there as I usually avoid that topic! What really annoys me is that he says he’s a scientist working on a treatment. I asked my brother who is a scientist to show the threads to one of his scientist mates who works in virology. He said by looking at the language he uses etc. and what he says about virology, if Trigger is a scientist then he’s the Queen, I was pointing this out because he posts the doom with an air of authority

Unfortunately I was attacked by his cheerleaders including the queen cheerleader who accused me of making stuff up! (Oh the irony) but at least I made my point so felt good!!

Yes absolutely!

Makes you wonder wherther any of the teaching unions HAVE seen the inside of a classroom or talked to a teenager, well ever!

Jourdain11 · 30/07/2020 20:59

And apparently the school opening is anyway under threat because of the second wave (which hasn't appeared yet).

BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 20:59

DD1 will be Miss Goody Two Shoes and get exasperated by it all. I should have called her Matilda.

DD2 is going into Year 7 and could be easily influenced.

They go to a good school though and I trust them to manage this situation as well as they can.

My younger DD is called Matilda. Such a misnomer. Her sister should've been Matilda. She is the anti-Matilda 😀

I do wonder if they were ever actually/are actually teachers. Because all the advocating for remote learning etc seems to me like they are actively trying to talk themselves out of a job. I mean, teaching's easy, right? Your average working mum can manage it alongside a full time job, just bung her a lot of twinkl worksheets and bobs your uncle. Who needs teachers?

Yes they certainly don't have their members best interests at heart. But then they don't care about pupils or parents either! Makes me wonder who they are in it for! Oh yes politics and themselves. They are scum.
pollyhemlock · 30/07/2020 21:14

The Chrysalids is probably my favourite Wyndham. Though I’m also very fond of The Midwich Cuckoos with its sinister scary children. And Chocky. That’s very good.

110APiccadilly · 30/07/2020 21:17

I love John Wyndham. Think I had an addiction as a teenager! The Kraken Wakes is my favourite though. Always thought it would make an excellent film, but I don't think anyone has ever done it.
