I'm even booked up for the next month for weekly same slot deliveries...feels like a weight of my mind

Sad really but there we go. It is not a joy.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:25

I read some Americans are looking to move to NZ now.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 20:26

@PickAChew

I encountered Trigger for the first time, last night. What a crushing bore. He has more than a hint of Russian troll about him.
It really is the usual suspects on that thread.

I remember a tv programme about the various islands that Europeans had colonised. Huge obesity problems in native people due to Europeans introducing things like condensed milk and lard and basically restricting their previous healthy diets as they took over the place and reduced land availability. They showed buckets of lard bought regularly as big as those tradesmen buckets of white paint in homebase! It was stocking to watch.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:26

(maybe they will enjoy the burgers too)

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:27

There is something about people who originate from indigenous populations being particularly not able to cope with the western diet and lifestyle

makes them especially vulnerable to health problems, even things like dementia as well..

Can you imagine living with Trigger Man? Must be a barrel of laughs in that house...

But he's as manly man as they come! Surely you'd simper in his wake while he tells you what to think!

Reminds me of my terrified friend (not of him - she's genuinely scared of the virus as she lost a school friend) whose husband currently "won't let" the kids go back to school in September and I'm like "fucking tell him that the kids and you are suffering and you need a break while he's on nights and asleep through the chaos every day - you don't need his permission!"

I’m assuming he’s a teacher, as everything he posts has the slant of ‘we must wear masks in schools’. On that note, I met up with a friend today who is a secondary school teacher (she’s been on maternity leave this year so has only been in a few times since Covid). I asked her how she felt about going back in September and she said ‘yeah fine, not a bit fan of the new head of science though’. I said ‘I meant from a covid perspective’ and she said ‘oh, I’m fine about that!’ I asked if she thought students and teachers should wear masks and she said ‘fuck no, that would be horrific for everyone’.
torydeathdrug · 30/07/2020 20:37

@BakewellTarts it's one of my favourite books! I love John Wyndham.

Reading dd's university misconduct guidelines - as you do Wink - nice section on ignoring government covid-19 guidelines, or causing 'alarm and distress' in connection to covid-19. Let's hope she doesn't encounter any one like our beloved usual suspects!

CruCru · 30/07/2020 20:38

Hi all

It’s very hot down here in the IoW. The lovely friends who were staying for a few days left today and a friend who I hadn’t seen for about a decade but was on holiday here came for the afternoon with her husband and kids. Then my husband’s parents arrived. We had fish and chips and the children played.

See I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would WANT the average bunch of UK teens/tweens in face masks (and I'm speaking from a teacher's viewpoint here)

Opens up all the advanced tactics for chatting without having to do it behind your hand and you're never going to fecking be able to prove it cos you can't say you've seen their mouths moving.
You are never ever going to be able to stop them chewing in class.
So much potential for theatrically muttered insults at teachers and you not being able to nail the culprit.

I reckon 1 week with our teenagers and face masks and the reality would sink in and the unions would be screaming for them to be banned!

CruCru · 30/07/2020 20:40

I love the Chrysalids. Uncle Axel is the best ever when he says “Just because a person says a thing, doesn’t make it true”.

BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 20:40

@torydeathdrug as if i needed anyuthing else to know that you all were my people! Trying to get DD1 to read it. She likes dystopias and I love Wyndham too.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:41

I noticed the Scottish advice on schools today said about them causing interference to the school day to day teaching etc today and not being advised in the schools. Doubt England would then go for them after that

DS says he would wear one though 'it would be a minor inconvenience to me' ...

Willow2017 · 30/07/2020 20:41

I appear to have missed TriggerMan!

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:41

Look for the post with a Trigger Warning...and other dramatic posts

Oooh it's a long time since I read 'The Chrysalids' might need to hunt it out.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:44

Anyone else like the Rats of NIMBH? or is that just me...

Lobbing them around, nicking each others' masks, swapping masks (identical masks as part of uniform is the worst idea I've heard recently), losing their masks...
