@Blobby10 I commute in London I wash my hands when I get to work and when I get home and have done for years....

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 19:15

Just did my third shop in Tesco in a mask since the rules came in. Its unbearable. I just cant do the high street in it. I usually get the Christmas cards from Card Factory but i just cant Its always overheated and even in previous winters ive got too hot in there without a mask.

One of the taxi drivers (i use a local rank) had the same problem as i did. Apart from it being hot humid and horrible the mask kept riding up into his eyes.

So we can add possible road accident to the list a PP mentioned.

That poster is particularly dementory! (the trigger one)

Feeling quite trapped here, in flat in centre, has always been escape to go to town ever since the babies in particular but now the masks and people are too much, sound silly but feeling increasingly stuck.

Feel like moving away...

does anyone else feel more trapped now than before? Confused and stressed by the booking, the advance planning, the hassle and stress of it all, the other people's fear and anger...

The advance planning and avoidance of masky places is annoying. Fortunately March to July set our standards of entertainment pretty low so we're kind of institutionalised to doing fuck-all in the house now Grin

Aside from the logistics of herding children out for specific, pre-booked times, I'm bothered by the number of outdoor attractions imposing masks on children. Both of mine have sensible reasons not to wear one. DS2's asthma is mild and not a concern in the scheme of things, but he can be triggered by air quality/ humidity and it would be reckless to needlessly risk triggering and asthmatic 7yo for virtue signalling. I'm fairly open about DS1 and his ASD, but I shouldn't have to announce it and justify him to a bloody theme park or animal park to gain admission. (Admittedly I did say yesterday that he was having an "autism moment" as he was getting stressy over ice cream choices, but that's because his behaviour/ emotional state was relevent to an interraction that was getting awkward, quite different to justifying admission condtions.)

My excitement at going on holiday to self cater in a small box (caravan) is not exactly through the roof. We've chosen a location with lots of natural attractions though to minimise living by a strict timetable and mask wearing.

I can see logically why driving instructors/ students are wearing them due to an enclosed space, but flipping hell, learning to drive when you've got the distraction of a covered face, and having to concentrate extra hard on the instructor's words. That's not an easy combination for many people!

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

Did someone forget to turn summer on this morning in Scotland?

Queen Nicola hasn’t cancelled school. Yet. Gyms are opening 15th sept too!

@torydeathdrug I was an early adopter too. But I thought we were hiding from guaranteed death, bodies in the street and flattening the curve.

When my local hospital sent paramedics down to London because there was nothing to do here... and then this bobbins about eradication I was left scratching my head wondering wtf was going on.

I look at New Zealand and think “beautiful prison” whereas others deem it the gold standard. What if there is NO vaccine?

My brother and his family live in that beautiful prison. They were due to come over for a visit in April obviously cancelled. God knows when we will get to see them. I'm not betting on next year :-( The economy will be knackered for them too, they need tourists.

Hi! Ill catch up on the thread in a bit, been a crazy day! Our local rag is now running a photo thing asking for pics of you and your kids in funny or funky masks.

I just wanna scream!

As the Exploding Kittens card says...NOPE!

(And I am Picture Queen)

I didn't realise some places ask for masks on children too...is that Scotland or in general? adds to the general stress of it all, hardy a relaxing day out battling with children and masks...

maybe a day at the beach could be a plan. Or lake or hill. forest. anything without masks...

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 19:52

I was surprised to find such high obesity rates in the beautiful prison isles...a third are obese, more than here. I'm not sure why but that kind of heartened me. Sad...(feeling like part of the fat UK of Europe perhaps)

justasking111 · 30/07/2020 19:53

Thinking ahead to tomorrow Friday remember how the figures always rose that day to scare the bejasus out of us to stay indoors reminded me we have our announcements from Drakeford. Is Boris still doing these or have they stopped now in England??

Gullivers' theme parks are (and they are aimed at families)

There was a link to a monkey forest place, outdoors down south also expecting it.

Both expecting 3+ to cover up Angry

We go to Gullivers most years as it tends to be good value for younger families compared to big theme parks.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 19:57

maybe trying to cover themselves in case of any case and the publicity etc perhaps

I think this is a big (ahem) issue in the Polynesian population.
BakewellTarts · 30/07/2020 20:03

Think Maui from Moana and you will be about right.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:04

Yes high in the native populations in NZ too...interestingly the gov seemed to have shown little interest in health either prior to covid...

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:04

In our local community shop- staffed primarily by volunteers- the staff were all wearing masks on day 1. Today, none of them were. I don't blame them.

I encountered Trigger for the first time, last night. What a crushing bore. He has more than a hint of Russian troll about him.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 20:19

I'm just not doing shops now at all. Online delivery Friday, Milk delivery Monday, will have to do us, unless maybe I will shop at a market stall for fruit and veg (one near by)

DominaShantotto · 30/07/2020 20:20

Dear god he's wetting his pants for scary peer reviewed doom. Is it reviewed by scary peers - cos I know a fair few of them? Has an army of cheerleaders as well simpering in his wake as he dispenses manly wisdom.

Me either. Weekly meat and veg delivery from a farm shop, weekly supermarket delivery for the rest and if we run out of anything DH can go.

And the award for enterprising marketing goes to...

I'm scrolling Twitter on the Leicester Lockdown hashtag as there was a rumour they'd be an announcement at 8ish (which ain't happening now really) and a counselling company has posted with their location and the comment that "we're all going to need anger management sessions soon at this rate"

I made the mistake of reading that...the adoring acolytes !!! Including she who must not be named (clip clop).

Anyway back to NZ I am worried about them. They can't even airbridge with Australia (case rate too high). Has anyone read The Chrysalids? I think they are in an even worse position in real life.
