Macdonalds hangover

I feel absolutely rubbish today! We used to have about 3 macdonalds a month before lockdown. I cooked the rest of the time. They don't exactly fill you with energy and are bad for you! But it's a treat.

Last night I had my first since lockdown. I didn't enjoy it. I was thirsty all evening.

Today my stomachs feeling delicate and I'm sluggish and tired!

It's made me realise how disgusting it is.

Does anyone else feel rubbish after them? Drinking water and had pepto bismol lol!!!

I feel like this if I eat meat 😂any meat. Oh IBS, how I loathe you. Well not anymore as am veggie but I used to. Now it's the lentils that get me Blush

CorianderLord · 24/07/2020 14:29

But with this it's tbh more likely the coke. McDonald's isn't actually that bad for you. No worse than a restaurant burger and chips.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 15:08

@Sewrainbow

I agree. It's much more salty and processed.

My friend was saying she found a macdonalds happy meal in her car that the kids had chucked under the seat. She said none of it had gone mouldy. Not the bun or the nugget or the chips! That speaks for itself. If I do burgers and chips at home I tend to buy the fresh burgers. I don't add salt to the oven chips and don't include coke. I don't think all buns are as bad as McDonald's buns either.

I get this from all takeaways it’s horrible.

Tfoot75 · 24/07/2020 15:24

I have never had this sort of reaction to a McDonald's, though I do sometimes get a terrible hangover from a meal out, usually curry or Chinese. I assume it is a reaction to monosodium glutamate (msg) as so called 'hot dog headache' seems to be a well documented thing. Im pretty sure McDonald's does not use msg however.

optimisticpessimist01 · 24/07/2020 15:25

Yes! We haven't had one since before lock down and I treated myself to one the other day, I felt so shit afterwards! Tummy ache and really tired and sluggish too

SmileyClare · 24/07/2020 15:33

I still maintain that you shouldn't feel like this after eating, drinking this around 20 hours ago.

The sugar in a can of coke takes around 90 mins to digest/ use or store.

Perhaps you have some digestive issues with certain foods or your insulin levels aren't quite normal. (Meaning your body struggles to control your blood sugar level and process it properly)I think that's worth considering before writing this off as McDonald's hangover.

See if you get this with other high fat/sugar foods?

Glad you've recovered though. It takes me about 2 days to recover from a real hangover so I'm still calling misuse of the word "hangover" in this context. Wink

SmileyClare · 24/07/2020 15:38

My friend found a Happy Meal the kids had chucked under the car seat. None of it had gone mouldy, not the bun, the nuggets or the chips!

I wonder if she ate it. Grin

I like the occasional McDonalds but it's about portion size.

I find a Big Mac leaves me too full and bloated. Double cheeseburger is better as it leaves out the middle bit of bread.

And drinks - just a small diet coke. No-one needs a large size or even medium. Have a small and then have water if still thirsty.

Spied · 24/07/2020 15:44

I get McDonald's hangover.
Love it at the time but an hour later I feel sluggish, nauseous and get a headache-
and that's from a Fishfinger Happy meal and extra fries!
I also feel like the smell lingers on me for days.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 15:57

@Spied

Welcome to my team lol.

@SmileyClare
Hmm I was checked for diabetes in Feb. It was iron and vitamin D I had issues with. Otherwise supposedly healthy.

I probably just need some veg lol.

Yep I'm the same! I don't like it anymore!!

lurch3r · 24/07/2020 16:00

I really want a McChicken sandwich and chocolate milkshake now. They always make me feel bloated but that's because I eat it with a large fries with my hands really fast in the front of the car and the milkshake is basically chugging ice-cream. (Post doesn't contribute much to the thread but that's my tuppence worth.)Grin

SmileyClare · 24/07/2020 16:08

Not really understanding the people who are agreeing that they "always get McDonald's hangover, I get one a few times a year and always feel sick..etc"

Why do you keep going back? Is it that you love it so much you're prepared to suffer?

As for the smell lingers on me for days I've no idea what to make of this comment Confused

@SmileyClare why do people drink alcohol when they’ve had a hangover. It’s the same thing. Because it feels good!

I love the breakfast to too.

Weirdly if I have the breakfast I can't eat until teatime though. Really fills me up for the day.

Fair point! I avoid red wine and whiskey these days because the hangovers are terrible though. People could find an alternative to McDonald's if it's messing them up so badly and still get the buzz of a burger?

All I can think is that McDonald's are putting a small amount of crack in their food if people can't resist it despite the dreadful comedown.

It's weird that people don't refer to microwave meal hangovers or any other foods. All equally full of sugar salt fat and preservatives.

JizzPigeon22 · 24/07/2020 16:47

Literally all crap food gives me a hangover. But I still eat it because I’m a fat bitch Grin

SmileyClare · 24/07/2020 16:54

Oh ok jizz I think you won the argument there Grin

Everyone has their vices I suppose. I smoke and then moan about the consequences so I'm a hippocrite anyway!

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 16:56

@SmileyClare

Well I don't eat microwave meals fullbof salt. My meals are usually cookiled at home fresh and occasionally a lazy sauce. We have veg everyday. So a macdonalds is as bad as we've gone for months.

I presume those who eat microwave meals and Takeouts alot don't know any different and their bodies are used to that type of crappy diet.....
