Macdonalds hangover

I feel absolutely rubbish today! We used to have about 3 macdonalds a month before lockdown. I cooked the rest of the time. They don't exactly fill you with energy and are bad for you! But it's a treat.

Last night I had my first since lockdown. I didn't enjoy it. I was thirsty all evening.

Today my stomachs feeling delicate and I'm sluggish and tired!

It's made me realise how disgusting it is.

Does anyone else feel rubbish after them? Drinking water and had pepto bismol lol!!!

I obviously wasn’t eating healthy enough over lockdown because I’ve had McDonalds since and I’ve been fine. Blush

Illdealwithitinaminute · 24/07/2020 12:26

What a load of old crock! I don't believe that you are so unhabituated to eating junk food your body is rebelling.

Home-cooking may be better, it may not be better, it depends on what's in it. I know people who eat white bread, fairly cheap mince, put lots of cheddar on the top of pasta bakes- that's pretty much what a hamburger is. Some even eat burgers! Everyone thinks they are 'home-cooking' 'from scratch' but they rarely are and even if they do, the quality of the ingredients matters enormously- cheap sausages and burgers are horrible products whoever cooks them.

I'm not saying MacDonald's is good for you, I'm saying it depends what you normally eat, what calories you have (chorizo is lovely but still processed calorific meat) and how sensitive your stomach is- if the MacDonald's was actually off or not cooked correctly then of course you can be ill, otherwise, it's your imagination.

Mind you, I had an upset stomach after eating fish at Ikea, but that was obviously off in some way. I don't go round speaking about my 'Ikea hangover' because that would be weird.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:27

It's absolutely fine that you are a macdonalds and felt fine! I'm sure your diet at home is also fine! I eat chocolate and cheese and crisps. I don't have a perfect diet. I just felt overloaded and rubbish after a salty, fatty, sugary tea. My kids seem fine though!

Spelt it wrong again. Sorry Grin

Sounds like an upset stomach to me. Oh well perhaps look at it as a budget colonic irrigation Grin

Did you top your fizzy drink up with half a bottle of vodka. That can cause similar symptoms.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:30

@Illdealwithitinaminute

Hmmm I'm not the only one on this thread so perhaps it's just the fact you havn't experienced it. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others. Read up on sugar crashes! It's real I'm afraid. My cooking isn't perfect at all. But that's the worst meal I've eaten since march. I don't usually have a large coke with my meals either.

JaaniGoGo · 24/07/2020 12:32

I get a carb rush whenever I have McD or any fast food really. Mostly because I eat a very low carb diet and I’m sugar free. My bodies not used to carbs anymore so when I do have a chest day, I end up feeling sluggish and get stomach cramps.

JaaniGoGo · 24/07/2020 12:33

My body’s not bodies!

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:35

@JaaniGoGo
Good job you corrected that before you got told off lol.

Yes I think that's what's happened. I think my body is getting fussier as I get older. Early 20s I had no issues. 10 years on im alot different

I often do feel quite bloaty after a Maccyds but I think that might be the fizzy drink. I do however sometimes feel 'hungover' if I eat a large share size bag of crisps (and don't share obviously). Crisps are my downfall. My first post covid Maccyds was wonderful. Tasted fantastic. Oddly though I bought a Sainsbury's pasta ready meal - which I used to eat loads of but haven't during lockdown - and I though it both smelt and tasted awful and it made me fart (tmi I know Grin).

Ginnyrellas · 24/07/2020 12:38

Op! I feel you! I used to eat takeaway at least 3 time’s a week then I joined SlimmingWorld and lost 3 stone in weight. Now every time I have anything fast foodie or take out I feel literally hung over for days. It’s like my body just rejects it now.

Ernieshere · 24/07/2020 12:39

I would see having one as desperation, not a treat.

I used to eat them years ago, I think they are expensive as well.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:39

@bookmum08
Haha love it!

It's funny how things suddenly don't taste as nice isn't it.

I think I was basically greedy with the coke! I presume there are about 2 cans in the large coke. That's alot of sugar to be fair. I've drank my first pint of water. Hoping I feel normal soon.

Oh and Post Kids Party Haribo Hangovers are definitely a thing. Definitely !!

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:41

@bookmum08

I actually crashed after my daughter's birthday cake come to think of it. Not fair Grin

Genuine question - why do so many people call and spell it ‘Macdonalds’ when it’s quite clearly McDonald’s?

BunningAndStrave · 24/07/2020 12:48

Faux unfamiliarity.
Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 12:49

I am just thick that's my excuse. I have never focused on it enough clearly. Just see a giant yellow M and that's it.

I never write it usually.

I presume everyone else is just the same and doesn't really think about it enough.

Mc not Mac

Of course you're not gonna feel too clever afterwards, it's not called junk food for no reason Hmm

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 24/07/2020 13:05

It will almost definitely be the diet coke that's buggered you up, those artificial sweeteners are absolutely vile.

bettybigballs · 24/07/2020 13:08

This threads make me smile, people falling over themselves to denounce mcdonalds. Yes they aren't crammed full of vitamins and you couldn't live on them but it's a class posturing exercise I swear. A Big Mac contains less calories, fat and salt than a Charlie Bingham's fish pie FFS but you don't get hand-wringing threads about those. Tastes like judgemental superiority to me.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:09

Didn't have a diet coke.

@Ingridla

You are late to the party. I've already been told of for that. Hmm

Goatinthegarden · 24/07/2020 13:10

Yeh, the fizzy drink is the worst. I hardly ever drink it any more but I was out in a beer garden with friends yesterday and had three soft drinks because I was driving and just felt bleurgh.

The last McDonalds I had was around Christmas time and it left me feeling ill...but we got some sort of deep fried breaded cheese nuggets, so it was probably to be expected...

It wasn’t good enough to warrant the feeling tbh. The Indian feast I had at the weekend that caused me to be awake all night with a super dry mouth from all the salt though was definitely worth it. Everything in moderation!

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:10

@bettybigballs

Oh I am sorry that my digestive system didn't respond well to my meal choice lol. Maybe the pie would affect me too.

You love a macdonalds clearly Wink

OP posts:
Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:12

@Goatinthegarden

Yes I think you have hit the nail on the head! Definitely not worth it. Pizza tends to make me really thirsty too but it doesn't make me too bad.
