Macdonalds hangover

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 11:15

I feel absolutely rubbish today! We used to have about 3 macdonalds a month before lockdown. I cooked the rest of the time. They don't exactly fill you with energy and are bad for you! But it's a treat.

Last night I had my first since lockdown. I didn't enjoy it. I was thirsty all evening.

Today my stomachs feeling delicate and I'm sluggish and tired!

It's made me realise how disgusting it is.

Does anyone else feel rubbish after them? Drinking water and had pepto bismol lol!!!

When I first went vegan I got smashed about two months in and caved and had a big Mac, fries and those cheese stick things. I was SO ill (and not just hanging ill as in tummy ill) for the whole next day.

Goatinthegarden · 24/07/2020 13:14

everyone thinks they are home cooking from scratch but they rarely are

Nonsense, surely you know if you’re cooking from scratch or not?

Fresh, raw ingredients = cooking from scratch
Opening jars/packets = not cooking from scratch.

Not exactly difficult to understand.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:15

@Hangingover

Yeah I can image that after such a break. Not fair is it. Sounds a commen situation from this thread despite the offended responses of it being untrue because it doesn't do it to them.

McDonald's hangovers are a thing. Grin

This happens to me every time I have a McDonalds, which is very rare. I think it's the diet coke. If I stick to water I'm ok. Exact same at pizza hut. I can drink cans of diet coke & I'm fine. It's odd.

Agree with this!!!

I'm pretty sure I can slice veg and cook chicken and know it's healthy.

If I make sauce with tomato's and peppers myself I know it doesn't contain salt and sweetener.

I also know if I open a jar of dolmio and pour it over pasta with a side of garlic bread it's processed and full of sweeteners, sugar and salt.

If you haven’t got a rice paddy in your back garden to grow and harvest your own rice then I’m sorry, your ‘cooking from scratch’ is invalidated.
Dozer · 24/07/2020 13:20

Yes, have experienced many food hangovers!

Dozer · 24/07/2020 13:23

Eg from pizza, lasagne, many restaurant meals, BBQs, fish and chips. And from food binges. Salt/fat/sugar etc.

bettybigballs · 24/07/2020 13:23

@Orangemangopineapple oh bless you. You’re making my point for me! Ascribing moral superiority to food Grin

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:25

@bettybigballs
I think you sound far too educated for a big Mac Grin

2 McChicken sandwiches and a large fries used to be my hangover cure in my wastrel 20s. You’ve made me all nostalgic now, OP! Grin

I’m not saying I haven’t had one for the last 20 years, I just didn’t pig it like a Hangover McD’s, that’s all.

If I drink full sugar Coke I feel a bit racy and thirsty too, iirc. So it was probably a mixture of that and the salt content of the meal if you don’t have them very often.

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2020 13:27

Haha love it!

It's funny how things suddenly don't taste as nice isn't it.

I think I was basically greedy with the coke! I presume there are about 2 cans in the large coke. That's alot of sugar to be fair. I've drank my first pint of water. Hoping I feel normal soon.[/quote]
A large coke is 0.5L, med 0.4 and small 0.3.

It's honestly just food though - nuggets just like you can get in any supermarket, chips are made by McCain, burgers are beef with a bit of seasoning added. The buns are probably the worst bit but again, they're not that different to a standard burger bun from the supermarket.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:32

@QuestionableMouse

Yeah the Bread and coke is probably The bit that's affected me and thristy from the salt.

We do eat frozen chips. But tend to only have the odd fish finger meal or pizza from the freezer.
We eat alot of pasta and tuna and I make wraps and roast dinners etc. So we are not big salt Eaters.

Although we will have normal sandwiches and things for dinner. So it's definitely looking like a sugar crash thing!

I'm feeling loads better now anyway. Drank lots of water and had a banana sandwhich. Seems to have cured me!

OP posts:
Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:34

Obviously there's salt in tuna and wraps and things but I don't add it to veg or anything. Infact we don't even have salt Nd vinegar in the house which is weird isn't it lol! We have sauces though.

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 24/07/2020 13:34

If it is spelled McDonald's, why is is a Big MAC?! Surely it should be a Big Mc?! Or is it!?

Anyway, yep the stuff is awful and full of salt and crap. Makes me feel horrible too!

BogRollBOGOF · 24/07/2020 13:35

It was a regular post-swim McDonalds habit that taught me that my body has a low tolerance to soya in bread. I had soya free at home because DS did have a soya intolerance. I switched to wraps and my system was far happier the next day.
I miss the chicken wraps at the moment.

McDonalds is no worse than a multitude of foods, and often better in terms of fat and calories than many superficially healthy options.

They're pretty hot on hygiene too.

Orangemangopineapple · 24/07/2020 13:40

Yes agree. My post was never knocking McDonald's or saying all people should agree. I was just curious to if any others have experienced such a yucky feeling. But then why would my body feel good after a meal with no veg or nutrition.

I really don't think anyone is trying to be superior or whatever by having a different digestive issues or by spelling something wrong. It's hardly crime of the century and I've not focused on how to spell Mc/Mac

OP posts:
Ribrabrob · 24/07/2020 13:42

@OrlandoInTheWilderness what do you mean if it’s spelled McDonald’s? It is! I do kind of understand your point though, but still... I just don’t get it! There are worse things for me to worry about though I guess! Grin

Ingridla · 24/07/2020 13:43

@Orangemangopineapple

Didn't have a diet coke.

@Ingridla

You are late to the party. I've already been told of for that. Hmm

Told off*

sorry, genuinely I'm a pre menstrual witch today! Wink

Every time I eat a McDonalds, I feel like this (probably have one every three years). I think that if you don’t eat them often, your body is just not used to the amount of salt or processed food you’re putting into it. As a teenager I ate them and other types of fast food regularly but when my and my now hubby moved in together when I was 21, we started home cooking everything. We stopped eating processed food and fast food as part of our regular diet. Once we decided to treat ourselves to a McDonalds, we both felt so ill the next day we just don’t bother any more, really only for emergencies. We do eat takeaway food but we are lucky to have lots of family fun places near us that make much of their food in house.

Bodies are certainly complicated things!

mystomachisrumbling · 24/07/2020 13:46

I eat low carb so always feel like shit the day after eating sugary carby food.

I love a McDonald's though. Cheeseburger, put the fries inside. If I can't have a coke with it then there's no point even going there. Follow it all with an apple pie and a McFlurry.

babybunny123 · 24/07/2020 13:47

Makes you realize just how bad fast food is for you, full of salt and preservatives. It will probably sit in your intestines now for a couple of months festering! Sorry.

CorianderLord · 24/07/2020 14:26

Drink water and have an alkaseltzer to replace your salts (read plural not sodium)

Sewrainbow · 24/07/2020 14:27

McGas is a thing in our household after eating one. I had one on a journey to mil last weds, my stomach has gurgled and churned and full of wind all the the following night and day. It is different to having other burger and chips meals, there something in them that's different I'm convinced.
